I would have recommended Tom&Joe's. There are not many other non-chain breakfast places in Altoona. Hollidaysburg is not far.Preferably not a chain. We've been to Tom and Joes, so would also like to try a different place. Not overly crowded would be a plus.
Thanks.
Greenwoods is second to Tom and Joes , after that Niccolettas on 17 streetDave's Dream was my mother's favorite restaurant. Classic diner type foods with a very solid bakery.
Tom and Joe's would have been my recommendation as well for Altoona. Nothing like a 'Big Ole Mess' to get your day started off right! If I was in Altoona and T&J's was not available I would probably head over to Eat 'n Park.
I have friends who swear by the Greenwood Steakhouse for breakfast. I have not had the opportunity to eat there, so not really a 'recommendation'. Just something I heard.
I have heard of that place ,good reportsIt's a little outside of Altoona, but if you're near Martinsburg, Mamie's (small and busy but really good plus an in store bakery with awesome doughnuts or Traditions (very good home style restaurant).
Have not been thee in a while , was always goodNot gourmet by any means, but the Prime Sirloin buffet is reasonable, and has a breakfast buffet every Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. They even make eggs and ommelettes to order.
Sorry to hear that . Good luck with the spring house grille . And you're welcome , any timeThanks all. We went to Greenwood Steakhouse. It wasn't busy and very relaxed and friendly, which allowed us to just sit and talk for 90 minutes plus. Which is exactly what we wanted.
That said the food wasn't the greatest.
The couple we met up with said they love Tom and Joes, but it isn't the best place to talk.
They also like Spring House grille in Roaring springs. Will probably try that next time we meet.
We went there for a place that was relaxed and friendly, so it met the top points. The staff was great to us.Sorry to hear that . Good luck with the spring house grille . And you're welcome , any time
I grew up in Roaring SPRING...we were a poor town and could only afford one spring. They also like Spring House grille in Roaring springs.
If you are going to Spring House, do yourself a favor and drive a few more miles to Martinsburg to Mamie’s (as recommended above). Great breakfast and fantastic homemade pastries. You won’t regret it. They do not, however, offer dinner. They are breakfast and lunch only. Thanks all. We went to Greenwood Steakhouse. If I want really good breakfast, I cook it.
I forgot about Mamies .Several former coworkers have been there because they live there and always rave about itIf you are going to Spring House, do yourself a favor and drive a few more miles to Martinsburg to Mamie’s (as recommended above).
