First of all, who the hell gets the number one player in the country to commit to Jackson State. Most common people have never even heard of Jackson State or know where it is.View attachment 619592View attachment 619593View attachment 619594View attachment 619595

Yes, he has picked up a couple high profile players and leaned extremely heavily on the transfer portal. Two of the top recruits, McClain and Edwards, have transferred out of CU, to UF and K-State, respectively. Not sure if you want to include them.

What he's done in recruiting at CU up to this point is 100% based on his name. At some point, though, results are going to matter. Another losing season or two and he won't have success recruiting on name alone. If he can start producing results, then he might be onto something. As of right now, he's a 4-8 coach.

Well man that’s sort of my whole stance here. I’m not saying he’s a great coach, I don’t know enough about coaching. His “name” has a formerly 1-11 team recruiting with the Texas’, FSU’s, and Ohio State’s of the world. I like Beamer and support letting him stay to build. If Carolina went 4-8 or 5-7 this year, I would much rather take a shot on a potentially huge hire than some “safe” coach who no 17 y/o kid has ever heard of. I’ve followed recruiting for a long time. South Carolina needs an advantage like this.

Problem is, Deion is basically a rookie head coach who will be 57 before this season starts. Realistically, he'd be close to 60 before we could get him, if that ever even came to fruition. Don't think we want to start a rebuild with a 60 year old, unless his name rhymes with Ervin Scheyer.

The average age of a first-time FBS head coach is 43.2.

That is a fair statement. That said, hiring a guy like Sanders, you approach it differently. It would not be a “conventional rebuild”. You would expect to pull in top talent fast and have guys transfer in. It’s sort of a take the money and run situation.

I'm not a huge Deion fan, but I like some of his old school philosophy.

Think he needs to give the "Prime" stuff a rest. Just be Coach Sanders.

I’ll pass on losing for three seasons straight during a “conventional rebuild”.

Well, that would be a very bad rebuild, worse than anyone we've ever had.

It remains to be seen if Deion's approach of total roster overhaul each season can produce results.

I think that is sort of a magnified view of college football as a whole now. I’m sure they don’t want that much turnover on a yearly basis, nor do I think it’s his entire philosophy. It’s a unique situation where a program is changing rapidly.

We must have a different conception of what is acceptable.IMG_1728.jpeg

I never said what is/isn't acceptable. You referenced 3 straight losing seasons in a rebuild. I simply noted that we had not experienced that.

We have not had 3 straight losing seasons under a coach since the end of Sparky Woods tenure. We've never had a rebuild start with 3 consecutive losing seasons.

Well a winning season won't happen this year, not due to any deficiencies on Deon's part, but the CU job was/is going to be a big rebuild.
The team he inherited had won only 1 game the year previously.
Winning 5 games this year would be considered a major step forward.
wait, what? how come beamer doesn't get more respect taking over a 2 win team and winning 7? then 8? then injuries derailed them last year and people want him fired? make it make sense
