Not necessarily. One of the juries I sat on was a medical malpractice case. Wound up as a hung jury. Do I think that the plaintiff's contingency-based attorney brought it to trial again? Nope. Sat on another where the attorney's share of the award wouldn't have covered her stationery costs.

A hung jury would be a happy ending for mel.

There is also a "moral turpitude" clause in Tucker's contract which stipulates that MSU is the sole judge of conduct that would subject the University to "public disrespect, contempt, or ridicule."
Is that of public record? I thought those moral turpitude clauses were tightly protected and known only by the university and the coach and his/her agent.

I’m late to this party (I did zero reading) but I see this woman surrounded by football programs. How is she allowed near these programs?
You do know that Franklin hired her to speak to the PSU team, didn't you? Doing so is an effective means of protecting oneself against later charges/accusations of not proactively addressing the issue should something happen in the future.

Consider it quasi-insurance.

I’d like to see a group pic with plaques with the State vips, not hugging Coach on the sideline and hearing they gave each others cell #ers

Yup, indemnity insurance in the event the mob comes to your door. Corporations and institutions alike are spending an awful lot of time and resources in an effort to indemnify themselves for backlash down the road. I'm sure some are doing it for noble purposes as well.....win win!

mel telling msu to kiss his grits. ( o_O )

Tucker, who is married, added in the letter that he finds "solace" in the investigator concluding they had a "personal relationship."

That's touching. Healing balm.

It’s not likely that MSU, being a state school, would be able to hide the details of any settlement.
Even as a private school, the amount will become known, just take longer.

A lot? Nowhere near the $70mm+ Tucker is currently owed.

“"Tucker is just the fall guy for the university's negligence and misfeasance, the long history of which includes and predates the [Larry] Nassar matter, but which unfortunately has continued and tainted the university's handling of this matter," the letter states.”

Tucker's side gets discovery and if MSU isn't squeaky clean, they're in deep kimchi. See Art Briles v. Baylor.

Yeah, that'll get ugly very quickly. Once people find out how much crime Izzo has covered up over the year, MSU might not have an athletic department left.
Keeping that under wraps is why Briles got $15mm from Baylor and why Tucker might cash a sizable (even after his attorney's cut) check from MSU.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Baylor's case, the problems were centered around the football team. And even then, some of the more serious allegations were later debunked. Briles still ran a totally out of control program that allowed far too much.

In MSU's case, it's pretty well know that Izzo has covered up at least half a dozen accusations of assault and sexual assault. There are even some very vague rumors of problems with the hockey and baseball teams.

You are correct. Baylor's problems initially centered on the football team. The school then tried to fire Briles for cause. Once his lawyers got into discovery they found that there were similar problems University-wide that had been covered up. They then demanded that Briles be paid or they would go to trial where it all would be exposed. Fifteen million dollars later............
