Does your opinion of Mullen change somewhat?

that a coach would sit there and tell you that we were bidding on a player? Are you that dumb?

I'm would not push it to far though...State is and will always be the school that will get hammered by the NCAA while the Bammers and USCs buy houses and cars the next day. Mullen brings a real fire to the sidelines and will win with the talent that WANTS to play at MSU

we got outbid and everybody knows it...damn you really are dumb if you believe that.

A coach is not going to look you in the face and tell you we were trying to break NCAA rules...wow

That post may be worse than Hanmu touting Jeff Bower for DC...I need a ruling? Somebody else want to rule on it?

we've got enough Confederates over here responding to every post, definitely don't want to add to that a bunch of Bammers throwing in their 2 cents. This is an MSU board after all.

If so, you are one more dumb sob.

get on me all you want about Newton. Angus's source talks directly to Mullen a couple of times a week, and when Mullen thinks he is ours, I go with him...

And yes, I am a Sixpack nerd...I admit it...2003-2010, nearly 16K in posts...been hooked since the day I read Cowpower-Meo-Costanza talk about what a good floor coach Stansbury is

a magnifying from the ncaa while the big programs get away with murder. Even when they get caught its a slap on the wrist or they are forfeit games from like 5 years ago.

First of all, the last time someone tried to give us the death penalty, what hurt was wasn't the actual penalties as much as how long it was drug out.

But that said, every allegation has to go through Slive first before it goes to the NCAA. I really believe that he would protect us if someone turned us in. Slive wants the SEC to be "clean"- ie no one on probation- because he knows that hurts the SEC more than anything else. Especially if we can't fill our bowl slots because everyone is turning each other in. What people were doing to each other was going to eventually destroy the conference. Slive putting a stop to it has allowed the conference to get better.

Now, I may be naive about that, but for an SEC school to be put on probation, it's going to have to be something like a player going to the NCAA out of spite or something like that.

Dan has improved our team. They got better each week. We lost a bidding war, and I'm pissed off at either our boosters for not ponying up enough money or Cam's Dad for funneling him to a school where the only thing that they have over MSU is "name" recogniton, which I don't think would really help him get to the NFL. That's not Dan's fault.

I mean, Dan at least knows where we have problems on the roster, and he at least tries to fill in those holes instead of recruiting 12 DE's from Alabama and a snapper.

That said, I think this situaiton lends credence to Mullen wanting to try to clean out Mississippi. The fact of the matter is, we're much more likely to get a QB like a Newton if he's from our state. I wished the last staff had realized what Dan does about this.

And not only that, Dan at least has a back-up plan. We're going to get the guy from California for depth and maybe he competes for the starting job, although I think Russell beats him out, nonetheless, he's someone that can be a potentially quality back-up for us. Then we get Favre, the Mississippi player of the year, who has a big time name, and who knows how he turns out, but maybe Dan can RS him and he can maybe start by the time he is a senior. If nothing else, we have increased our depth at QB, and we don't have to worry about Bumphis being the QB and running the Wildcat every play.

We're getting some pretty good guys like Jameon Lewis, Micheal Carr, Curtis Virges, we're probably going to get Wells and we are getting Euells. Robert Johnson looks like a pretty good player, and then Rajion Neal. We're also probably going to get Damien Robinson, who I think can be pretty good with some coaching, and probably Day from West Monroe. I think it's going to be a pretty solid class.

And then we already have verbal commitments from three of Mississippi's top juniors this past year- Redmond, CJ Johnson, and Chief Brown.

I thought people were stupid to even consider that Newton would be interested when the talk first started last year. For us to basically come in as his 2nd place choice was more than I ever expected.

I imagine it's harder to sell a JUCO guy on the fact that you are "building a program". Newton's got 2 years left - he doesn't have time to build a program. He needs to go somewhere & have a chance to be great now. I suppose he thought Auburn has a better chance to be great next year than we do. He may even be thinking 1 & done if he can have a good enough year.

I said that I was not suggesting anything over the top. Even Mississippi Delta Community College breaks rules trying to get good recruits. Every single 17ing team in the country does something that violates NCAA rules. I just want our staff to keep up with the Jones'. That is all.

there is too much money and too many ego's involved for things to go along as they are now. Some SOB will go to the NCAA and they will find out the SEC tried to suppress something and then the SEC will go the way of the old SWC. When that goes down we will be standing alone or with only UM and Vandy. looking for a league.
