If the government would just stay out of it EV technology will continue to improve rapidly and the American public will buy in more and more as it makes more sense to them. As for Mississippi, half of our population can barely put gas in their cars now and it's been that way since automobiles first came on the scene. I just don't see a majority of EV's here for a long long time.

I just ordered a 2025 F150 crew cab 4x4 Hybrid....i can't wait. Buddy of mine has one and loves it. Not sure i would go full EV yet....technology in batteries and charging has to get better. The thought of charging for an hour while on road trip totally sinks it for me. I travel the whole state of MS for work. That aint happening.

If you want an EV fine. It saves on gas and all that. Just don't use the reasoning it's better for the environment. All it's doing is transferring level of pollution here from an ICE to a third world country with their lithium mines. And that's not just EV's. It's phones and everything else with Li batteries. Lithium mines make coal strip mines look like virgin rainforests.

Articles that I have read from leading media outlets(nyt, wapo, wsj, etc), which summarize studies, show the environmental damage caused by production and use of EVs is lower.

No need to defend yourself. You made an adult decision best for you. The people that make fun of EVs probably drive heavy duty trucks for their daily commuter for image purposes only (rural 5 series), don't actually use them for towing/hauling, and ***** about fuel prices when they could easily have avoided a 12 mpg vehicle.

Use and production of the vehicles may be lower. But search YouTube videos of lithium mines for the batteries. Not to mention the slave labor employed there to mine the lithium.

You seemed to claim they are equally dirty when all factors are considered(from raw materials to build to use).
Long term research disagrees. You should consider changing your claim since it isn't accurate. Or at least word it more clearly, if what you seemed to claim isn't what you actually claimed.


- I fully recognize that mining battery materials hurts the environment.
- I fully recognize that labor in other countries, specifically at materials mines, can be dangerous work for low pay.


It's as if you aren't able to see how terrible ICE vehicles are for the environment, from raww materials to build to use.

Anyways, both negatively impact the environment. One negatively impacts the environment more than the other, even after over 100 years of process refinement.

I'm more or less agnostic on EVs, but one thing to keep an eye on is lithium production - there are plans in multiple places in the USA to go all in on lithium mining in a big way.

Is this a good or bad thing? Shrugs.

My EV is just over 2 years old and I have roughly 92,000 miles on it. In that time I have seen virtually no degradation of the battery


I have used this charger twice. Once was yesterday. Columbus has two chargers at their electric department also.

But the larger question after reading this thread is why must we criticize each other's decision to buy something as long as it isn't illegal or something? I love my car, but if someone says they don't want an EV, that's their decision. If someone does that's their decision also.

I will also say that there is a lot of incorrect information about EVs. I see it all the time. When mine was on the way, someone who was leaving the company told me he hoped it didn't catch on fire, yet the frequency of EVs catching on fire is significantly lower than an ICE car. That's just our example. Also, the longevity of the life of the big battery. They will last much longer than most people seem to think.

Way I see it, the more people drive EVs, the cheaper gas will be.

I need a new fuel-efficient car myself, but I also want to travel in it, so I don't really want an EV. I'd like a hybrid, but not sure I want to pay extra. Thinking about just a good ole Honda Accord or similar.

And from the opposite end of the spectrum, there is me that travels less than 5 miles round trip daily to work. Why would I pay the extra dollar$ for one? The longest trip in Starkville I make is from my house to WalMart or Lowes which is 12 miles round trip. I'm not buying one based upon the fact I may take a long trip by car at some point in the future, its not happening for me in my lifetime.

EV would actually be perfect for you, while hybrids/gas are better for long trips.
