From the Bleacher Report article (which has quotes from Adam Rittenberg):

The idea of rebuilding the Tigers' or Trojans' roster wasn't 'overly appealing' for the 49 year old Pennsylvania native.

Signing an 'enhanced contract' amid rumors is nothing new in the coaching world, and it doesn't eliminate the possibility of a move, even in the near term. That said, it sounds like Franklin is planning to stay at Penn State barring a late twist in the LSU or USC coaching searches.

"Penn State's future is bright, and I'm honored to continue to serve as your head football coach. Nine weeks ago, the administration approached me about making a long-term investment in our football program," Franklin said. "This prompted numerous conversations outlining the resources needed to be competitive at a level that matches the expectations and history of Penn State. What's most evident from those conversations is the importance of our student-athletes' success both on and off the field."

I utterly enjoy the agony of the keyboard coaches. Why would I want to change my outlook? They just got a 10 year sentence. I really enjoy and like Coach Franklin. I see Drew Allar approves as well.
Okay. You just seem to take any criticism of Franklin to heart. This is a fan message board for a major program. Criticism of the coach is inevitable.

I get it. But you are right, it's a message board. It runs both ways. Also, not all criticism is valid.

Great news! Ten year deal with no pay increase. I guess he really wanted to stay, bet a bigger money pool for assistant coaches and improve facilities for the players. Let the haters begin......

Have you seen the numbers for this? Can you confirm no pay raise?

"With the support of President Barron, Sandy Barbour and the Board of Trustees we've been able to create a roadmap of the resources needed to address academic support, community outreach, Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), facility improvements, student-athlete housing, technology upgrades, recruiting, training table and more. This renewed commitment to our student-athletes, community and fans reinforces all the reasons I've been proud to serve as your head football coach for the last eight years and why my commitment to Penn State remains steadfast. Throughout this process I've kept our leadership council, recruits and staff updated on those conversations and I'm excited we've reached an agreement we can finally share with you."

Everything you wrote about the contract, aside from it being a ten year deal (and even that is only 1/2 true) is completely incorrect.

Full details - includes raise to make him highest paid coach in B1G:

Penn State football coach James Franklin’s 10-year contract will pay him $7,000,000 per season in total guaranteed compensation until 2031, according to a document released by the athletic department on Tuesday afternoon.

Franklin’s previous contract was slated to pay him $5,750,000 in 2022, rising by $250,000 until the end of the contract in 2025. Under Franklin’s new terms, his guaranteed compensation remains fixed at $7,000,000 each year.

According to data gathered by USA Today, Franklin is the highest paid head coach Big Ten and the ninth highest-paid coach in the nation.

"I only know what I read in the papers."......and that's an alibi for my ignorance." I don't have his contract do you? I do know this.....I think its strange that posters here are worried about how much money he makes. I'm wondering how many of us turned down a chance to get a better job with more benefits and increased income? So many here wanted him to commit to PSU and not flirt......well he committed. So it's clear that all the bitchers and moaners didn't really want what they say they did. If you don't like Franklin, fine. You can have fun taking shots at him for 10 years.....LOL. Apparently, the decision makers aren't in agreement.

Actually, he already was the highest paid in the Big Ten. Whomever wrote that article has a lot of their "facts" wrong - no surprise.

:ROFLMAO:

He can walk away after two (for even less of a buyout than he had under his current contract - which had 4+ more years to run).
So, no.

The only people on the hook are the poor saps paying him the $85 million (of course, given past history, that number will be "negotiated" to an even higher rate in a year or two).

Hey it’s a message board. Nobody has to post factual information or even know what their talking about to be a vital contributor here. If that were the case we would be staring at a blank screen all day. God bless the USA and we need a Midnighter poll.

I linked the contract details in a recent post. I’m fine with Franklin but he’s out of excuses and OCs to fire. Time to put up.
and if he doesn't? LOL is that a threat? Will he be destitute and feed his family out of a dumpster?
