Because the Longhorns played Alabama earlier this season and faced Washington in last year’s Alamo Bowl, we had Texas meet Penn State in Arlington while shipping the Tide to the Fiesta Bowl to face the Huskies. Of course, Texas and Alabama could be flipped.(please lord, no Bama for us this year)

This year it'll be James Madison we're waiting for.
From the USA Today Nov. 7th:

James Madison is ineligible for a bowl game as a school in its second year transitioning team from the Championship Subdivision to the Bowl Subdivision. The Dukes can play in the postseason if there are not enough 6-6 teams to fill the available 82 spots in the bowl lineup. The Dukes are also not eligible to play in the Sun Belt Conference championship game during the two-year transitional period. The NCAA imposes this ban for teams that move up divisions to deter a bunch of schools from doing so at the same time. The transition period for basketball is four seasons.

In 2023, should the ncaa really discriminate against a team that is transitioning?

JM is appealing for a bowl appearance to the NCAA. It was a stupid rule some how to protect the new school's fiscal competency. Holly Madison is handling the appeal.

There is a chance JAMU gets a slot. Last tear there was one 5-7 team, Rice, that made a bowl. It would be pretty cool to see JAMU in a NY6 game.

If James Madison is a state funded school, VA should file suit against the NCAA. The NCAA does so well in lawsuits.

The NY6 has to include a non-P5 champ.

Who is a more likely option than Tulane (who, if one recalls, played in a NY6 last year and BEAT USC)

Tulane, James Madison, and Liberty are the only currently ranked non-P5.
Tulane (at 9-1) does still play UTSA - who will be a tough challenge for them.
If you don't like Tulane - imagine playing James Madison in your NY6 game (they are next in line)
Blah!

For all the complaining about Franklin, we’re still bowl-eligible. Only 548 college teams make meaningless bowl games each season, and we’re one of them. Relax. Six other teams not bowling would kill to be in our position.
