Football seat selection started Tuesday morning. A couple observations:

1. All seats on the West side are blocked off from selection. No prior notice given of this fact in the Athletic Department's communications about seat selection (their fan experience understanding and transparency, frankly, continues to suck and even get worse under Pat Kraft). Presumably no West side seats are available because of the upcoming stadium demolition/renovation? Any prior communication to us about how that will work? Or will we just be blind-sided?

2. There are thousands of seats available on the East and North sides of the stadium. In fact, I have never seen so many available seats (at least not since the STEP program was put in place a decade ago). This tells me that a large part of the fan base is unhappy and did not renew their tickets, and I'm guessing it has to do with NIL, pay for play, open transfer portal, price increases, parking fiasco with no passes available, bowl game opt outs, all the noon kickoff times, etc. Sad.

Given the level customer service/communication from the athletic department, it's not outside the realm of possibility that they've quietly elected to hit the reset button on reserved seating again (a la STEP).

Just to be clear: I absolutely hope this is not the case.

Or the fan base is just dying off. Going to the bowl, the contrast in PSU to Ole Miss fans was pretty striking.

At the same time, this is probably one of the best home seasons in PSU history.

Interestingly. we play four home games in a row in, presumably, good weather after the WVU away opener. Then two great opponents in tOSU and Washington early in November to finish out at home vs MD 11/30/24.

Lower level east side? That would be shocking. Upper level sections aren’t that shocking. There are usually hundreds available in the sections with “U”

concur on some aspects of fan experience and customer service.

What I’d really like to know is how they will handle a home playoff game, and how badly we will be anally probed economically

Sorry, but your assumptions of reasons people aren't going to games like kids getting NIL money, they can transfer, prices are going up (they haven't), games start are noon are just dumb.

I looked at the seats this morning and while I agree the west stands where we sit are blocked the number of available seats are not as high as you represent.

3. Fewer people respect fans smoking their meat as soon as the lots open!!! Screw them!

Previous reports had demolition beginning after the 2024 season (including a playoff game, if any). So unless that has changed, there must be some other reason for those sections to be blocked.

I would speculate they don't want to sell any more season tics west side and then have to relo them later, so freeze it all, and sell anything open on the west as a single game tic in 24.

I am sure there will be some carry-over excitement for Washington, based on last year. But Washington circa 2024 is probably a 7-5 team.

You've basically got OSU, a couple of "meh" teams, and a couple of dogs.

No inside info, but that would be a very, very bad decision. I don't expect that will be the case (though I have no wisdomy explanation for why the seat selection site would be showing what it is being reported)

Would Washington be a "meh" team or a dog team?

Just double checked - my seat selection on my couch is still available to me. Of course, I must pay my seat license first.

I hear you, but it is cool to watch UCLA and Washington in the Beav. the reality is, I have no idea why someone would buy season tickets if not to scalp really good ones. Other than Michigan and tOSU, tickets are readily available via ticket brokers.

I would guess this is the likely explanation. Why allow someone to buy new west side season tickets, only to move them next year with all the construction that will decrease capacity, (reportedly). It just angers a season ticket holder. So have them pick from somewhere else and if any are open in the west stands after construction they can transfer over then.

"2. There are thousands of seats available on the East and North sides of the stadium". That's an interesting observation. Here are the comments from two other individuals who also looked at availability:

- "I was able to log in to select at 9:48 this morning. Bottom line...not much is available, as expected."

- "It does not look like there are many open seats in any of the remaining sections North/South/East upper/lower."

Plus, Cville's comments seem to agree with these other two.

If there is openings in the west or east sides, I wonder how many of the open seats are people who gave up their existing seats due to the higher required NLC donation levels - some of them might simple get cheaper seats towards the endzones at the previous NLC donation level. But when seat selection begins you'd probably be in a situation where there are empty seats because those folks are in limbo without seat assignments.

Your sources are full of it. Just went in and looked again. Over 5,000 seats still available (5 pm ET) - and that is with ZERO available in any section in the West, upper or lower.

So where are they available? East upper and/or north upper and south upper?

Over 5,000 seats still available as of this Wednesday morning, and that's with all West sections blocked; no seats available there.

Franklin has lost the fan room.

Just biding time until he's gone.

Logged in for first time. Other than west side blocked off and no reasoning given, not a lot of surprises. Pretty much same ones available each year, top 10 or so rows of upper east sideline have plenty of availability to move or for new season ticket holders. My suspicion is probably the same as everyone else’s, in that the west side is blocked off due to upcoming renovations. Don’t know why that would be, but PSU athletics sometimes doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

I am no longer a season ticket holder but have many good friends who are, or were. Two couples I know are not renewing after holding tickets for more than 35 and 45 years, respectively. The reasons are just as you suggested...NIL, pay for play, portal, etc. Admittedly they are older fans (mid 60's) but they have no mobility problems. They just no longer enjoy watching what the game has become.....a lower quality version of the NFL. My wife and I once held season tickets for 40 years but this season are seriously considering going to home games of Division 2 local colleges where the game is still pretty much as I remember it. Gannon, Slippery Rock, IUP, Mansfield, Carnegie Mellon. We would pick a different school every week and spend the weekend there soaking up the small school experience. We would also make a donation on the academic side...money that once went to Dear Old State. The decision is not yet final but I am leaning toward going.
