If they hadn't dropped those passes you wouldn't have a need to make this post. The Lions went for it in the third quarter and didn't make it. They haven't been the same since. The Lions don’t have the pedigree or the self confidence to punch back. The RB gets the ball stripped. The WR & TE both drop two gimme passes, the DT allow a 5’ 10” QB to slip out of his grip resulting in a 49er 1st down. This is why I said they should have gone for the TD when they had the ball on the 2 yard line.
Times twodumb move by the head coach to not kick the FG
The coach’s weakness is over aggressiveness, and it was exposed in this game.4th & 3, and Lions are going for it (instead of kicking a FG)
and then don't convert.
once you get Goff to move due to a pressure, his accuracy seems to go down significantly
dumb move by the head coach to not kick the FG
Campbell is stupid. His failure on the first 4th down turned the game, and then with time ticking away passes on the tie FG. He may be a motivator but does not know how to play the odds. Lions likely gong to lose over his stupid decisions.4th & 3, and Lions are going for it (instead of kicking a FG)

Sometimes the philosophy needs to be adjusted in the playoffs. A road underdog working with a decent lead can't leave points on the table. Take them when you can and force the home team to keep chasing you. Just because a risk is worth taking in the regular season doesn't mean it's worth taking in the playoffs. There is no next week if you lose.Times two
He, like many West Coast QB’s, is afraid of getting hit.Jared Goff reminds me of that QB who hates the gym. On three separate occasions he’s short stroked passes or just did not have the arm strength to reach his receivers. The Rams made the correct trade.
Blasphemy!!!! Analytics cannot be questioned!!!!Is this game a failure of analytics?
I don’t think Dans an analytics guy. It’s more a seat of his pantsIs this game a failure of analytics?
X 3 if you count Reid not kicking the FG in the other game. I know the Chefs won, but that was still a bad decision. These guys are professionals!Times two
Maybe I'll skip watching the Super Bowl this year. I've come to dislike both the Chiefs and 49ers. None of that was true a couple of years ago.Pre-congratulations to the KC Chiefs on becoming the NFL Super Bowl Champions.
If Detroit kicks the 2 FGs instead of going for both they’d be winning now with 50 sec to go.Is this game a failure of analytics?
So you think that nothing else in the game plays out differently if they do kick those FGs?If Detroit kicks the 2 FGs instead of going for both they’d be winning now with 50 sec to go.
Well I do…. At least it’s a GD football game!! Won’t see one again until MarchSan Francisco vs Kansas City in Vegas. I just have no real interest in that game.
So you think that nothing else in the game plays out differently if they do kick those FGs?
On problem with your theory : SF is a smaller market than Detroit. As is KC compared to Baltimore. How many monikers do you have?![]()
Wait, wut?! The metro Bay Area market is, I believe, the fifth biggest in the nation. WAY bigger than the metro Detroit market. On problem with your theory : SF is a smaller market than Detroit.
QB runs were key for Niners.Purdy’s legs were really a big difference in that one.
San Fran is able to put such a good team around Purdy when you can have your starting QB on such a cheap salary.
Should be a great game in two weeks. Looking forward to it.
So we’re giving a 100% chance of FG makes when the odds of each would have been closer to 75% (so the odds of making both just over 50%)? And if they did, we’re assuming San Fran is still running the “up multiple scores “ prevent defense trying to make them run clock as they score? And that every other moment in the game plays out the same? Not dramatically, no.
It would have been 27-10 Detroit (if they kick the FG instead of 24-10).
Then SF gets the next 2 TDs (27-24 Detroit).
Detroit gets the FG (if they kick- 30-24).
SF gets the FG (it was 4th and 12 for SF. 30-27 Detroit).
SF gets the TD (34-30 Niners).
Detroit gets the TD (37-34 with 50 sec to go).
There’s not much different SF would have done as they mostly scored TDs anyway.
KC is a smaller market than Baltimore.QB runs were key for Niners.
Still the analytics would say take the FGs. If Lions make the FG to go up 27-10, then I think they go on to win. I wish they would not use the word being aggressive, as it sounds like the opposite is not being aggressive. Coach decisions lost this game for his team. Hopefully ha admits. this.
