People will go to see him. Like Louis CK, or Dave Chapelle, or anyone else rightly or wrongly 'cancelled' for whatever reason (how is Michael Richards doing these days?). I saw a comedian say he couldn't believe some people are against certain things that are universally 'good'. But, he noted, all it takes for someone to be against an idea or person is have someone who is for it.

Much different what Cosby did vs the others you mention. But who knows...Hollywood gives awards and standing ovations to people like Roman Polanski so it's possible.

Reminds me of my first concert when I was about 12 years old. "The Guess Who" band was playing at a free outdoor concert at a local park and my parents dragged me along. I kept asking my dad who was playing and he kept saying "Guess Who"...That just kept pissing me off... Anyway, that's the whole story.

Hollywood’s hypocrisy in regards to Polanski turns my stomach. Lefty liberal pinko speaking here.

I don’t know what to say about CK other than he has a masturbation fetish that he could and should have kept private, and that his TV show was extraordinary.

CK had victims too - used his status and power to actualize his fetish on people; could argue it was more about power than sex for him since it’s not like he was busted in a bathroom by himself…

Yeah, I know the particulars. It wasn’t a Paul Reubens situation.

Cosby is hysterical. What did he do? Had sex with some women? Minors? Just says women with lawsuits. Are these 40 years after the fact or is an 80 year old man fondling them.

You haven't read any of this in the past decade? He would drug women and have sex with them while they were unconscious. Repeatedly over the course of decades. This isn't some "oh these women regret what they did" situation.

This one was so incredibly disappointing to me as I liked him so much as both a comedian and for his film-making (or tv-making, whatever you'd call it, his skill behind the camera).

I love great TV, movies, acting, and comedy so much and indulge so much of it, but so often I feel like I'm doing something wrong as a result. The reality is that much of those great artistic things we enjoy are the result of or only possible because the people involved are pretty screwed up. Sometimes those eccentricities are entirely harmless, but we see so often that they are very harmful, and we unwittingly support and build those people up in ways that allow them to do the harm they do. So I'm torn about being such a consumer of "art".

Yikes, dude … how can you not know that he drugged women and raped them? Lots of them. I mean, this was all over the news for a long, long time. Came up multiple times.

Yeah, same. In my opinion, “Chinatown” is the greatest American movie. Probably the greatness of Chinatown is a motivation towards the hypocrisy about Polanski, as people can’t wrap their heads around the concept of a pedophile being capable of such artistic greatness.

I feel the same about Woody Allen, creepy as hell but made some great movies. I still love Take the Money and Run (my favorite).
I still crack up at the cello scene. 🤷‍♂️

He did this? Technically he didn’t. Since I read that his sentence was vacated. He is free to do what he wants now.

Wow, what an uninformed take. This is a really bad look for you, seriously.
24 hours of accusations on all news channels. Tired of it. Who is guilty who is innocent who walks who doesn’t. Most of the time if you have money and power nothing happens. So….
I turn the channel to sports. Hence this board.

Good points. Relatedly, Jeffrey Dahmer just enjoyed dinner with some boyfriends from time to time. What’s the big deal?

A shockingly bad take raz.

The courts didn’t set dahmer free and didn’t Vacate the sentence. Cosby right or wrong in public opinion is free.
Don’t have any skin in the game just sayin the legal system set him free.

is he a creep and would I want him around. Absolutely not.

i will add one more thing. It’s a sports board so maybe I’m out of my league with the thread on here.

Delusional. Here’s what happens when you get really old and think you still have a fastball. Aside from the obvious legal/moral issues, comics usually lose a step or two. (Or three)

Courts didn’t get time to set Dahmer free. He only spent 2.5 years in jail before he was killed.
Cosby was convicted by a jury of his peers. It was overturned because one prosecutor promised Cosby something the next one didn’t uphold (if I remember it correctly, not exactly sure what the promise was). But the fact remains that when out in front of s jury of his peers, he was convicted.
And you’re not “just sayin the legal system set him free”, you’re saying he just had sex with some women.

Pa Supreme Court overturned any conviction. One reason why I moved out of that state. Fetterman, da in Philly, courts way to liberal and soft on crime. So. He is free.

The fair, and accurate, thing to say (as you did) is that he got out on a technicality. The Prosecutor promised not to press charges if he testified. Then the following Prosecutor decided to go ahead with the trial.

Obviously his testimony helped cook him, BUT given the number of women that came forward, I think they would have been able to convict him of something pretty severe in any case.

Lol. The court doesn’t agree with you.
Question for you ... if someone close to you ... someone you loved ... was drugged and raped, and too scared to come forward because the rapist was a powerful celebrity, and because well, they were drugged and it wasn't exactly the clearest memory ...

And when they finally did feel empowered enough to speak up about it the statute of limitations had prohibited any legal proceedings on the matter ... would your response to them be "hey, he wasn't convicted in court, and he's HILARIOUS, so bugger off! LOL!"?

Regardless, of the few who could still do something about it, one got a conviction, which was upheld an appeal, and only later overturned because of a deal a former prosecutor made with Cosby. Another got a civil judgment against him. Others got settlements. And, we have a deposition where he admitted that he would drug women, unknown to them, in order to have sex with them.

But you can "lol" about this rapists actions all you want, if that's the hill you want to die on.
