This is not to denigrate the gift in any way. I think it's very generous and praiseworthy. I just wonder what it's like to give away 1/100th your fortune and still have over 100 billion left.

pretty close to having one million and giving away $0.01. except the giving away part probably wouldn't feel as good.

Your point is a good one, but I think your math is off. LionJim, help me here. I think since Bloomberg gave away 1/100th of his fortune with this gift, if you have a million, 1/100th would be $10,000. Took me only 15 minutes to figure that out.

How is Hopkins’ football team doing?

Penn State laughs at Johns Hopkins.

my math isn't correct. one million cents is $10k. (I remember saving my first $10k and thinking I'm a millionaire, if you count pennys) billion cents is $10m...

I thank Mr Bloomberg for his generous gift.

12 years ago I was desperately ill and a trip to Johns Hopkins was my last effort to do something about it. I was thinking crazy ideas if I got no help.

A team of three doctors spent an entire day with me and came up with a new diagnosis and treatment regime. They ended my pain and put me on the road to recovery. I understand many of you had similar experiences.

God bless them.

He is very generous. I know a girl that worked there for many years. She quit and moved south. She ended up having a stroke and no insurance. Mike paid for everything and got her back up to Johns Hopkins for treatment and physical therapy paying for everything out of his own pocket.

Bloomberg Philanthropies is a philanthropic organization that encompasses all of the charitable giving of founder Michael R. Bloomberg.[1] Headquartered in New York City, Bloomberg Philanthropies focuses its resources on five areas: the environment, public health, the arts, government innovation and education.[2] According to the Foundation Center, Bloomberg Philanthropies was the 10th largest foundation in the United States in 2015, the last year for which data was available.[3] Bloomberg has pledged to donate the majority of his wealth, currently estimated at more than $54 billion.[4][5][6] Patti Harris is the CEO of Bloomberg Philanthropies.[7]

I know he is donating most of his fortune when he passes. He will leave his 2 daughters a chunk of money that if smart will very comfortable for their lives and their childrens as well. He has said if his children were to waste what he is leaving them they didn't deserve the rest of it.
