early, but that win today is currently Q1
If I remember right, we were 1-16 other than HubbardAnd we didn’t shoot the 3 ball that well. If we can consistently make free throws and play defense, we are going to beat some really good teams.
Yeah, hopefully we won’t have the entire team sucking at making shots at the same time too often. That was brutal. All of the guards can shoot but when shots aren’t falling they are all pretty good at driving and getting to the basket as well. That last couple of years we really haven’t seen that or had the players that could do it.
You weren’t the only one. That first half was one of the worst halves of offensive basketball that I’ve seen in awhile, and Hubbard and FTs were really the only reasons that it got better in the second. Then, while you have to give the team credit for going inside when the perimeter shots weren’t falling, Murphy and Nwoku couldn’t get anything to drop under the basket either. Not gonna lie…I was dog cussing this team at the end of the first half!
Don’t get me wrong, th start of the second half was AMAZING, but we can’t afford to start slow against the Kentucky’s, Auburn’s, Tennesse’s, UTX’s, etc that are coming up on our conference slate…
Utah was picked to be near the bottom of the Big 12 but the Big 12 is very deep in basketball. It’s the best conference in college basketball. You weren’t the only one. That said, I have to give the team a lot of credit for finding a way to win against a solid Utah team in spite of a terrible offensive night. I could easily see Utah in the tournament mix
Wow. I haven't looked at the schedule but those are all quality teams. They aren't Valley at the Hump.Next 4 games are at SMU, then UNLV, Butler / Northwestern in Tempe and then back home to face Pitt.
Could be a couple more really nice wins on deck.

Good grief. I'm gonna have to keep a conference flash card around to keep track of who is where now.Utah was picked to be near the bottom of the Big 12 but the Big 12 is very deep in basketball. It’s the best conference in college basketball.
I get the feeling that Jans loved being down big at halftime yesterday. It's a great early test for the team, in a game that didn't matter so much because it's on a neutral court. He obviously isn't going to tell the team that, but sitting Cam for a chunk of the first half tells me he was okay with it. Jans has to sit him early to keep him from getting in foul trouble. He doesn't trust him in the first half to reign in his emotion, so I think we'll see more games this year where we are down early or don't look in sync for stretches (especially defensively) because Mook is stuck on the bench. It makes me nervous, but we are going to have to do it if we want him in the game at the end.I'm sure Jans was too.
Wow, I didn’t realize that but I guess it makes sense based on what I saw yesterday. I definitely wouldn’t say that they’ve got a bunch of 5* athletes, but they’ve go guys that know their roles and they play those roles pretty effectivelyUtah was picked to be near the bottom of the Big 12 but the Big 12 is very deep in basketball. I see our lack of an inside game as our down fall. The defense is not great at staying between the ball and the goal but Jans usually cures this the later the season gets. Although, you can't make an inside game without inside players. We will live and die by long range shooting. And we didn’t shoot the 3 ball that well. If we can consistently make free throws and play defense, we are going to beat some really good teams.
I think they understand that by their postgame comments after the Utah game. They said they treated it with the intensity of a game in March. If I was Jans I would tell the team there are no more warm up games. Every game now is important to the season and post season. Every single one. Bring your A game or sit on the pine.
Just a really good job of scheduling by Jans. Proof that you don’t have to schedule Duke or Kansas to schedule well.
I don’t know if Utah is an NCAAT team but they seemed solid.
I think it they played in the NIT Final Four last year so I kinda think they’re about that caliber again until proven otherwise.Had they beaten us, I have no doubt the talk would have been "that's an elite 8 team"
Stans had more than one team that was good enough to be in the tourney but didn’t make it because we scheduled atrociously and lost games to teams like Rider. We’re a far cry from when Stans was the coach and said, I want to say on more than one occasion, that he didn’t understand the RPI.
