The NIL does not do us any favors. The portal should though. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The best we can hope for is to be an annual Top 20 or Top 15 program with an occasional "magical" season of finishing in the Top 10. That will be about as good as it will get for us.

And regarding this season: if it turns out to be a bummer (I expected 7-5; but that's not looking promising now), I believe that there will be multiple coaches on both sides of the ball out of here. Then Tanner better open the check book to bring in quality replacements.

Beamer will be given as much of a chance as Muschamp. And Muschamp was given a 5th season here.

We need to keep the distraction factor high: looking for the next Sandstorm or something else for Cocky to ride out on the field in or on, more lights, more sound, more smoke whatever it takes to keep the rubes entertained and not fixated on football.

WB games have turned into more of a "show" than a college football game. The team (the cast?) comes onto the field to recorded music and pyrotechnic effects, the signature "thing" is a recorded techno music song and a major feature of the game is a person in a chicken mascot suit making a big production of an entrance at midfield. There is a large band that plays some songs during the game but piped in music is the real music played. The actual game has become something that is held to facilitate the "show" and give the crowd a reason to come.

7-5 with one good win is enough to keep the fans hanging on and looking forward to "next year". You know, "next year" is the year gamecock football is going to be great, and it always will be.

There are times I wonder if that's what we should be aim9ng for anyway. I know it's so.ewhat defeatist. But I don't see us suddenly being an NIL player, and I wonder if we shouldn't aim for being the Iowa of the SEC.
