Would be an odd hire for them. You have to recruit like a maniac to compete at Pigville, and that’s not Jans.

I also am surprised they’d entertain a guy from a glorified JUCO, UALR.

Have they been told no by so many coaches already that this is where they are?

If he’s not pretty certain to get the job seems like a dumb thing to do for Jans. Did he get an extension recently ?

Walker was a star player for Arkansas and played many years in the NBA. Was even an NBA head coach for a short time.

And that JUCO beat our Final Four team's azz.

I don’t really care who Walker is…. But bringing up a win from 28 years ago is a little odd.

I used to work in Little Rock, and many of my co-workers were from UALR. It’s undoubtedly a glorified JUCO. A waste of money.

I wasn’t even trying to be a dick. Calling UALR a glorified JUCO isn’t ignorance… no matter who the basketball coach is. I didn’t even look at the guys name.

But, they did beat us in 1996. Relevant stuff, as usual.

Just let him go. It’s obvious he doesn’t want to be here.
Did he interview elsewhere last year? I don’t remember that.

The SOB shook mine and my son’s hands at the Italian restaurant where the Veranda used to be after the pig game this year. I almost can’t help but feel responsible.***

What corner did he paint himself into and why does he have to go if he interviews
You’re not a poker player. He just showed his hand. He’s not committed here after two tournament appearances.

If a guy takes you to two tournament appearances and throws his hat in the ring for another job, it’s pretty obvious he doesn’t want to be here.

If you’re his boss, a boss that didn’t hire him, how would you take it?

“Most” bosses would see it as a sign to immediately start looking for his replacement.

I’ll bet crappy attendance doesn’t give him the warmest of fuzzies. Butts in seats, or lack thereof, can impact a career trajectory. Stricklin is the gift that keeps on giving in this regard.

I’ve appreciated Jans getting us back to the tourney, but he’s had the same letdowns that dozens of other coaches would have here. He hasn’t set himself apart as a must-have, by any means.

Dude. He impressed the hell out of me in two years. His guys play hard. Well coached. He brought us out of the depths. Thanks to him. Move on.

A poster said that if he interviews he is gone. You agreed and said he painted himself into a corner.

...but he hasn't painted himself into a corner because he could interview and still end up coaching at MSU.

I do understand what your point is- he shows he wants to leave. Perhaps he does. Or perhaps he is just trying to make this leverage for more pay at MSU. Or perhaps he doesn't have strong feelings to stay or leave and is working to ensure he has the best setup for him to feel like he will succeed.

It’s simple. If you take a team to it’s first consecutive tournament appearances in 20 years and throw your name in the hat for another job, it’s not leveraging, that school is going to meet your demands within reason.

He wants out.

In pretty much any sport other than baseball, this is always the fear with MSU hiring a mid-major HC or high level assistant with no prior connections. If it’s a good hire, they’re just about always going to get a better opportunity at some point. Mullen, Schaefer, etc. More true now than ever before, NIL in play and less money in general being thrown at coaches.

That’s a risk you have to accept before you ever make the hire in the first place….as both an athletic department and a fanbase. Lebby is going to be no different. Probably won’t be here longer than 3-4 years no matter what.

They beat us that year but..." ULer" as they pronounce it in Little Rock, had a once in a lifetime player. He played for the lakers. Forget his name.

Also, I worked a career fair there once ... a decade ago, there is a plaque on the sidewalk on campus that memorializes that "ULer" was once a juco.

Will Wade to Arky and we get to keep a coach that doesn't want to be here.
It’s pretty well known among the folks close to the basketball program that Jans isn’t a fan of Starkville and wants out.

Selmon has been working on a list for a while. Probably why you haven’t seen an extension as well.

While I'm not getting into any debate of Jans's opinion of this job, this seems like an Arkansas smokescreen to me.
