Grabbing a Big Ten ref would get him a 5 year contract extension. If the ref was injured, a 10 year contract extension.
Seriously though, what do you think? At the time he got nothing, right? Couple game suspension? Fired?
Went and watched the video. Paterno didn't grab it violently, it was more to get the official's attention. In today's environment, though, I assume a reprimand at a minimum and 1 game suspension maximum. First offense and all.

What is with some people making excuses for clearly unacceptable and unjustified behavior?
I was expecting something like 3 games, but 5 makes sense. I thought that Gard might get a game, but the fine makes sense as well. And I thought the three players that each got a game deserved it. All in all, a fair punishment all around in my opinion…though Howard’s leash couldn’t be shorter at this point and this was his final strike I’m sure.
