Football has about 65 scholarships at the D2 level and more expensive travel costs. Your smaller sports can get 2 games in on a travel weekend so it cuts down on travel costs.
Football probably loses more money than the rest of the sports combined. But I wonder if they’ll lose students over this. Maybe with their base of students they draw from not as much as a secular school would.
Its not going to be 0, but the number of unaffected students that leave over this is going to be low. You'll have some football players leave, some cheerleaders, dancers and band members will leave, but the average non-athlete isn't going to lose sleep over this.
Sounds like all of D3 needs to shutter football. And maybe sports in general.

My dad taught at MC (his alma mater) for several years after retiring from Hinds, and one day I went to have lunch with him there, and we wound up eating with the college president (this was probably 15 years ago at least). They were still D3 at the time and we talked about the complexities of changing divisions. They had done a study about NCAA classification options for them and the one thing the president said that stuck with me was that for the costs associated with scholarships at the D2 level, they'd actually financially be better off going to FCS because it's not that many more scholarships than D2, and you can get big buy checks from FBS teams to help with the costs.
Yep. They should have played FCS. Play Louisiana Tech and South Alabama every year and you make your budget. That’s why your West Georgia, North Alabama and West Floridas are moving up. Only way to survive.
