Looks like Tom Allen from Indiana will be the new DC

Seems like CJF is comfortable with potentially short stints from DC/OCs because Allen will bolt too if he can do what Diaz did (and same for Koltelniki if he gets the offense going). I’d rather see our internal guys rewarded but maybe they’re not ready.

I don’t have an issue with short stints. I just prefer a bigger name proven DC if it is going to be a short stint. This doesn’t move the needle much for me. Like you, I would have preferred Poindexter get a shot.

Maybe Dex is going with Manny? Also heard Allen may only be an analyst and not the DC

Don't know how good of a DC he was, but he was a DC many times in the past at the HS and collegiate levels. IU played hard and, at times, kinda dirty D against PSU during his tenure. They were always pretty physical.

Always struck me as a bit of a goofball. Can he recruit? Does Dex stay. Assume Allen takes Lbs. Indy always had decent lbs

He was national coach of the year 2020.
Was that the same year S Barbour was "AD of The Year"?

(FWIW: I don't know how many 'Coach of the Year" awards there are - probably a lot - but Jermy Chadwell won a bunch of them for 2020. I suppose Allen got one too.)

FWIW:

CJF is still in need of a QB coach (first noticed this when Mike Poorman wrote an article about it). And just one spot open (and, of course they also need a DC / LB coach)

The new OC guy, never coached the QBs
Aside from CJF, the only guy who ever coached QBs (IIRC) was Seider - like 20 years ago as a High School coach.
Danny OBrien is a "consultant" or something - former QB under Franklin at MD (IIRC) - but he can't, of course, be very involved with the QBs year round if he doesn't have one of the 10 staff positions.

I would prefer Dex over Allen but let's see what happens. Whether Allen is DC or analyst.

O’Brien is a Grad assistant. Can coach year round. K said he, OB and Franklin will coach QBs more like an NFL approach

Almost as good a resume as the BWICAC.

Hea a defensive coach by trade.

His teams play hard and his kids played psu tuff.
Definitely. They played with a chip on their collective shoulder. They also had some guys that PSU just couldn't block at all. A couple of the most dominant individual defensive performances against PSU were by IU players during his tenure.

Color me surprised. Not sure how I feel about this. Certainly not a splash hire. He’s 53, what kind of is recruiter is he?
2023 class he was out recruited by Rutgers . All 3 stars for both programs , but 15 signees to 19 for Jersey . Looked like his last 4 classes ranged roughly from 25-50. Didn’t appreciate any Hoosiers in high demand in the portal on the D side . Hope we can retain the other coaches .
The 53-year-old left Indiana with a 33-49 record. His final year included a 33-24 loss to the Nittany Lions in a game that was tied late in the fourth quarter. Allen's team entered that matchup as multi-touchdown underdogs.
Indiana allowed just 20.2 points per game in 2020. However, the Hoosiers have ranked 100th or worse among FBS teams in points allowed over each of the past three seasons.
