Ah the good old days, a shave at the barber shop. Steaming hot towels, hot lather and that comforting scraping razor sound and feeling. It’s going to have to wait, Louie owes me money from the game, and he isn’t going anywhere near my throat with a straight edge razor.Point shaving?
Huh? A come from behind win in our opener against a team comparable to a team we blew out in this year’s opener. A 46-10 win over a G5 team in game two last year against a 63-7 win against an FCS team this year. A 41-12 win over a team who wasn’t as good as the team we beat this year 30-13. And last year we had a six year QB and this year we have a QB in his first year as a starter. How would anyone give the nod to last year’s team?
If we cover the 14 do we beat the big boys?27-6. Great win, yet not enough to make a majority of this board believe we won’t lose to OSU or Michigan by 50.

Nothing will until PSU wins against one of the 2 for a few. PSU is a good team, but they aren't clearly better than the other two so you have to just get used to the manpon choir and their crying until it happens. Nobody knows how those games will turn out, but if you ask the same stupid question in multiple threads it means you're keeping it real. What score will get you and the rest of the negative Nancy’s to just be happy with the win and quit crying about everything?
Hey I’m all in but on what I’d call a ‘down” year at OSU, but sadly I’m not digging the effort at illini. Take off the blue tints and rewatch the game.If they don’t cover the spread and beat the “big boys” guarantee you’ll still find something to be p!ss!ing and moaning about.
Cheese and Rice, man.
Good question @Classof09
OL
I’d be happy with some line play. Let’s win the line of scrimmage battle on both sides of the ball. I’d like that. 3-0 means zipWhat score will get you and the rest of the negative Nancy’s to just be happy with the win and quit crying about everything?
I don't see Iowa having any luck dragging PSU down into the mud with this one.
38-17 PSU. Perhaps our only loss en route to conquering the mighty West.
If I could get my damn Draftkings app to work, I'd be on the 14 points faster than PSU can call in a "turtle" play to slow down Iowa's momentum.
That's a joke.
Best of luck vs the East giants. Would love a rematch.
Auburn’s defense last year wasn’t nearly as good as Illinois this year. And how a team does against one team means nothing in how they will play against another. Teams that play in the same conference know a lot more about each other than OOC conference teams that they rarely play. Not sure I buy into Auburn last year not being as good as Illinois this year. Illinois was blown out by Kansas and should have lost to Toledo. The rest of the season remains to be season. Illinois' QB throws like one of those students competing in those Dr. Pepper 'throw the ball in the hole' halftime competitions.
Has no effect whatsoever on how we do against OSU or Michigan (or NW, UMass, or anyone else we play). Every game is different…that’s why they play them.If

Did you only rewatch the parts where we had the ball? Our defense looked pretty damn good and that’s just as important as the offense. Joe won a lot of games with a pretty average offense, but we were still able to count those wins.Hey I’m all in but on what I’d call a ‘down” year at OSU, but sadly I’m not digging the effort at illini. funnily, us birds fans are having the same convos on 94 (boys and niners are the birds big 2)
being critical of the effort saturday doesn’t diminish my all in for state. (Dad/wife/bil/sil/nephew/me and of course 1&2 at about $350k cash)
So honestly you don’t take recent body of work and imagine how it translates to the next game?Has no effect whatsoever on how we do against OSU or Michigan (or NW, UMass, or anyone else we play). Every game is different…that’s why they play them.
Hate to break it to you bro, I really do, but joe is gone. Move onDid you only rewatch the parts where we had the ball? Our defense looked pretty damn good and that’s just as important as the offense. Joe won a lot of games with a pretty average offense, but we were still able to count those wins.
@Ludd - the problem with trying to have rational discussions with irrational people. He just wants everyone to whine and boohoo like him because we beat ‘St Mary’s of the Poor’ (apparently not to his satisfaction) but that does not translate to beating OSU or Michigan. I guess the team is supposed to come out in national championship form by the 3rd game of the season or we have no hope.Did you only rewatch the parts where we had the ball? Find out what soon enough? Go look at the 1985 schedule, for example, a ton of mediocre results, especially early on, and we finished 11-1. All @Ludd is saying is that it’s too early to make hard predictions based on how we played our first three games. Could we improve our play from what we’ve shown so far? Sure, but that doesn’t mean we won’t.Look at lion Jim piling on guess we’ll find out soon enough

What are you? Six?Oh and the redskins are frauds so there
@LionJim you know you’ve won when it results in name calling or him saying that his Dad could beat up your Dad. Well done!if you say so.

Really? Our QB from last year is one snap away from being the starting QB of the most fabled franchise in NFL history.-better play from both lines
-open up the pass game
Last season we didn’t have an especially talented QB. Now we do, so we can’t fall back on the excuse of, “Yeah, but he’s young!” Feh! Throw the ball. That’s what he’s here for! That’s why we’re all excited to have him.
If Iowa is going to stack 8 in the box (as everyone has done against us) then we should be coming out five wide and using the pass to set up the run (instead of trying to force it to be the other way around).
What does this have to do with anything?Really? Our QB from last year is one snap away from being the starting QB of the most fabled franchise in NFL history.
I got to go to bed. At the time of my post I had left my hotel for the Barcelona airport exactly 24 hours and five minutes earlier. Slept like a baby but I do have a nighttime peeing schedule that I follow, like it or not. What did you win Jim what did you win?
My first year in Kinnick was 1974, #19 Penn State beat Iowa 27-0, as Iowa was coming off a huge win over #12 UCLA the previous Saturday at home.
Iowa lost one of their four captains on Saturday. Leading receiver TE #85 Luke Lachey (OSU legacy) to a nasty ankel injury right after the 30 minute lightning delay, I believe.
DE #13 Joe Evans became a key contributor for Iowa late in 2019. Minnesota defeated #4 Penn State the week before 31-26 in Minneapolis and came to Iowa City 9-0 ranked #8.
Evans is one of Iowa's top returning sack leaders as a sixth-year player and has welcomed QB Cade McNamara to the team, who has become one of the captains, since transferring.
With the Luke Lachey's injury, look for former Michigan TE #83 Erick All, Jr., sophomore TE #87 Addison Ostrenga and former Lafayette TE #86 Steven Stilianos to step for Iowa's missing captain and #1 receiver in the TE room.
Iowa's final captain has waited for his opportunity in the middle, since Jack Campbell has moved onto NFL after three seasons at MLB. Senior #34 Jay Higgins emerged last season and is working with former Virginia MLB Nick Jackson, who has moved to WLB for the Hawkeyes
Iowa's RB room has spotlighted three backs. Two are out for Penn State. Junior RB #4 Lashon Williams stepped up with 12 carries for 145 yards. Last year, posted posted 117 carries for 413 yards (3.5 yard avg. per carry) and two touchdowns, with an OL that was young and struggling the past two seasons. Iowa returned 4 of 5 starters from last year to the OL room and brought their #6 OL in from the portal.
Williams has been used in the passing game and had one touchdown reception on Saturday.
Penn State is a 14 point favorite for good reason. This series has been competitive. Since 1976, Iowa's three coaches have all had a victory or two in Beaver Stadium during their era. Kirk Ferentz has five wins in his 25 years now at Iowa in State College. A sixth as an assistant under Hayden Fry.
Forecast
Cloudy with showers. Low near 55F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50% in State College. Must be a "white out" with Iowa in Beaver Stadium, like 2009
Fans will say a lot of things.
