I was looking through this thread trying to settle on the worst post- very hard to do with so many really stunningly bad ones.
Sounds like the long snapper had the green light to call the fake if Minny sent out the punt return team. Big balls on the long snapper . I guess that's why they have to spread their feet so wide.......

Great win on the road against a scrappy team, on a weekend when all the SEC homers were dying to see us lose (watching Bama, Ole Miss, and A&M lose to bad teams made it so much sweeter!). One problem I usually av w with Franklin is his inconsistency with being aggressive - he set the tone early that it would be the case last night and stuck with it. Left some points on the filed on the fourth down when he could have made a FG, but made up for it. Having Luke Reynolds run the fake punt was genius - he’s the next Warren.

PP's are coached to never give ground. I've seen them block their own punts with their backpeddling asses. So the PP was backing up and funneling the rushers to the right. Yet the punter didn't adjust.

The guys on CBS said it was a great win, championship stuff, right after the game. They actually watched it. Later some guy on another network criticized, prolly w/o watching the game and advocated for PSU to drop back. But how, everything behind them is a real mess. The politics of it is disgusting.
Not the long snapper. He’s part of the shield wall and makes the snap call. Better view from there.

My wife, whose football knowledge comes from watching football with me for the past 13 years, complains at times when we struggle against teams like Minnesota (i.e. unranked, not a great record). I try to make her understand that good teams don't always blow out the bad teams like last week when Oregon beat Wisconsin by 3 and other "good" teams lose to lower ranked/unranked teams, see Alabama, BYU, Colorado, Texas A&M, etc. I would love to win by 50 every game (I really would), but that isn't realistic. The bottom line is that we are 10-1, and I will take a win any way we can get one.
The fact that you think the team is above criticism doesn’t make you a bigger or better fan. It means you’re incapable of discerning mediocrity from excellence.
Everyone here wants to see the program succeed. But some of us are capable of analyzing the on-field product, and others, like you, are just cheerleaders.
Punter was Ralph Giacamarro. I think he played for the Falcons one year. I wanna say the PP was Steve Sefter.
Mike Suter was the PP on the play. He moved backward and to his left, and Giacomarro's punt hit Suter in the back. PSU was at their 49-yard line on the 4th down play, but due to the "block," Alabama recovered the ball on the PSU 11.
I thought Mike Suter was from the Cincinnati area, but I haven't thought about him in years, so I'm not certain about the Cincinnati region being his hometown.
BTW, the Mike Suter that played on the '82 team was part of the group of Letterman that signed on in support of the Paterno Family lawsuit against the NCAA.
Suter played at Cincinnati Moeller HS, Gerry Faust's former school before taking the HC at Notre Dame. Moeller is a Catholic Marianist school.
Criticism in the first quarter judging it as if that’s how the whole game will go means you’re an idiot, not a better fan. And 10-1 is not mediocrity as much as you want it to be, sorry, it just isn’t. The fact that I don’t judge the team on every play and every series does make me a better fan. Please show me the team that scores every series, gets a three and out on every series defensively, and wins all their games easily….I’ll wait, but I’m sure their fans aren’t just cheerleaders.
On your topic the 82 and 86 teams had some tight games along with 78, 77, 81, and 85. You are so correct, one year they put 81 on Cincy. and others they scratch back like they did against Minnesota on Saturday.
Temple,Rutgers, and Maryland gave us fits in the best years, good observation.
If I recall correctly, word got out that Tom Donchez was so pissed after the game that he hurled his helmet (or some other object at Suter) in the locker room. Not sure if this is true.
Both of you guys make good points. Many of us, including myself, let our emotions get the better at times. Not unusual or always without cause during sporting events with much on the line. More venting than anything else. On the other hand, Ludd's equanimity is the more desirable approach. Certainly better for one's physical and mental health. I was an absolute wreck for about a half an hour after that game.

They played like garbage against a team that had 4 losses coming into Saturday. They got beat on both sides of the ball and were lucky to escape with a 1-point victory over a double-digit underdog.
Like I said: you’re a cheerleader, and a cultist. You have no analytical ability, and you think legitimate criticism is unfair. It’s not that you don’t judge the team on every play/every series. It’s that you have no ability to judge anything at all. I reiterate: mediocrity and excellence are the same to you. You cannot tell the difference. You think being a fan is the same as being knowledgeable. A common misconception held by cheerleaders. Feel free to directly quote anything I said that isn’t true. I dare you.

Better for mental health, maybe. But if the outcomes of these games are immaterial, why am I watching? If I am hoping to revel in the thrill of victory, then I have to be willing to suffer the agony of defeat.
Mostly, I just want to see the team play well. There’s been precious little of that this season against a very weak schedule.
