TONS of fans are satisfied with this. They argue that 9-3/10-2 isn’t mediocrity, and they’re content to compare PSU to Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, MSU, Nebraska, and say, “They’d all love to be us!”

But people like us hold the program up to the bar of Ohio State and Michigan. We expect to be competitive with those programs.

'But Penn State has historically never been competitive with those programs!!! You guys are delusional!'

All Time Wins by Program:

1. Michigan 998
2. Ohio State 962
3. Alabama 961
4. Notre Dame 945
5. Texas 944
6. Oklahoma 941
7. Penn State 928
8. Nebraska 917
9. Georgia 877
10. Tennessee 874

Something tells me Pat Kraft isn't the kind of guy who is going to settle for 3rd place every year?
We’re not gonna be 3rd place every year. Oregon would absolutely SMOKE us. So would Washington. And probably USC. We’d have to duke it out with UCLA for 6th.

You would be satisfied with that? BTW, Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl reps were at the game today. I doubt that they would want PSU's offense stinking up Miami or New Orleans.

Um, no. Just saying I prefer better bowls to bad ones. As much as I want Franklin gone he's not going anywhere. The real turd is getting a great bowl with a crappy opponent, which will probably happen.

Michigan State appears on the verge of hiring a great head coach....far better than Franklin.

I wouldn't worry too much at this point. A few things I consider when thinking about this:
  • We will never play all those teams in one season, so relative rankings will be tricky inside the B1G going forward.
  • Michigan roughly recruits on about the same level we do over the long-term, so I do not see them having as long of a dominant run as OSU has had over the past decade.
  • Washington does not scare me after this year (we recruit better than they do).
  • Oregon is very good at recruiting, but I tend to view them as the newcomer who we will have the most parity with.
  • USC is an enigmatic wild card from year-to-year. They seem to underachieve their composite talent most seasons, but that talent is still always there and will always be a tough team to play.
You're either naive or completely full of shyft

Sure, 10-2 is a "good" season. But the larger issue here is lack of execution against the Big 2.

Our offense against both teams was just totally out of sync. Very frustraing to watch. D played well enough in both games to give us a change but the O **** the bed.

Penn state is the big 8th grader who pushes all the other kids on the middle school playground around. As soon as they run into the 2 high school kids they get put in their place. I guess be happy to be 8th grade champs!!

I don’t take well to being accused of lying, but you can call me naive if you want. I view OSU, Mich, and USC as the biggest threats to us in the B1G going forward. Oregon will be tough, but not improbable for us to go back-and-forth with. Washington does not frighten me.

Allar stunk today. And the OL didn’t do him any favors. Neither did the receivers. Nobody on the offense stepped up. We couldn’t run or pass and Allar’s fumble sealed the deal.
After Drew fumbled, he stopped running the ball. Either told to stop or he was just tentative. When he ran we moved. We need him running the ball to keep the DEF off balance. We did not get FD for a long stretch once he stopped showing run.

Some of the big plays
  • going for 2 at end of half. stupid and I do NOT think this was analytics. Analytics would say 1 pt. Make game 14-10.
  • Drew stops running after fumble which was big. we were on a drive after that fumble. his running was keeping the chains moving. we need him to run 5-10 times per game to keep teams honest.
  • No holding call on Edwards run - Klatt pointed that out.
  • Holding on Meiga on punt return (changed field position 30 yds. very close call and less of a hold than the previous no-call.
  • Interference on King - very close call.
  • Going for it on your own 30 with 4th and 6 and 4:30 left. Same stupid mistake at tOSU. This was a low odds and gave almost any chance away.
  • Not kicking 2nd XTR PT - going for 2 stupid. Klatt also pointed that out.
  • Manny took a while to realize that long yardage was still a run play for UMich. they were running 3rd and more than 10. other teams did the same thing to us,, so this is not abnormal.

Yeah, 10-2 (if that holds) gets us a pretty nice bowl especially if the B1G can squeeze both Michigan and OSU into the playoff (not impossible). Orange?
Unfortunately the bowls are meaningless now unless they are in the CFP. Rose Bowl has lost its luster, it's just another bowl game now same as the poulan weedeater bowl

PSU and UM both ran the ball well statistically. It's crazy that UM only threw 8 times the whole game though. The most telling statistic is that PSU gained 3.2 yards per pass. That's dismal. Think about it - 11/23 for 74 yards.

Look for recruiting to drop off in the near future.
I said it during OSU game and I'll say it again here -- Grunkmeyer needs to re-open his recruitment. He'd be crazy to come here and get turned into a sideline-tossing game manager.

Never been to Miami but can confirm that New Orleans already stinks to high heaven so PSU's offense there would be a rose compared to it.

It's a different "college football" environment these days, I know. But consider when Penn State was at its best, it was also at or near the top of big time programs in players' academic performance and overall graduation rates. Look at it now. Can't win a big game to save its life, and is at or near the bottom within the Conference in this area. Things have deteriorated on both levels. The only thing Penn State can legitimately take pride in is the game day atmosphere, which is largely a credit to the students, alumni and other fans. If anyone is satisfied with this, that's OK. It's certainly their prerogative.

P.S. A little added perspective. As we all know, fortunately there are far more important things in life to focus on. So, stay happy!

Just look at PSU's record from 1966-1999. National powerhouse.

What message do you send to recruits that you can't beat OSU and Michigana and can't make the CFP?
