Perhaps the biggest takeaway from tonight’s game is this:

It’s frustrating to find out that you’ve had the potential to play this way all season and you just… haven’t. The coaching staff needs to be held accountable for that.

We struggled against Purdue. Struggled against Central Michigan. Looked downright awful against Northwestern. And got embarrassed by Michigan.

Then we come out against a decent Minnesota team with a very good defense, and pound them into pudding. Much of today’s win can be chalked up to the willingness of the coaches to do more things on the offensive side of the ball. Where was that last week? Why weren’t we doing those things? Where was that against Northwestern where it looked at times like the win was being forced upon us?

It’s unacceptable to get this deep into the season and only now do you go, “Oh, hey— maybe we shouldn’t play liked frightened children!”

They have to bring even more audacity next week if they want to pull an upset. Great win today. Badly needed. Let’s not go back into turtle mode when the Buckeyes come to town.

Minnesota was playing without their starting QB and thus had to play a red shirt freshman on the road. Pretty big advantage on top of the home crowd atmosphere. It’s a win, and we have have been on the receiving end of a QB Injury that neutered our offense, so I won’t cry for Minnesota or use it to take away from PSU. But I think we need to recognize that this performance is likely an outlier for this season.

I think we all know what this program has become: 3rd best in the BIG East unless we find a Saquon or field a defense that has a bunch of seasoned NFL draft picks at key spots. Upsets happen, but unless we have Ray Lewis and Aaron Donald in their prime just sitting on the bench, our two losses are going to be blowouts to the two teams you just cannot have blowouts against. Not if you want to attract better recruits to beat them consistently.

The Allar show needs to start soon. Commentators slobber all over themselves when he comes in. Kid needs a few highlights before bowl season.

Amazing...calling for the backup QB after a 45-17 win where the starter made one rough mistake.
No, it’s marketing for recruits for the next three years. The kid has a ton of hype. We have highlights for the two freshman RBs, but not him. Get the hose on tape as I have recently heard it said. When we are 10-2 with two bad losses and we get a new year 6 bowl with hours of TV coverage to lure recruits, you need the future to be front and center. No one is coming to play with Clifford, even if they wanted to. Allar needs to be there when the bowls start, because like it or not he already is your present and future recruiting barometer.

Dude, you gave me nothing to work with here. You almost spelled “you’re” right and you missed the second period, but that’s the best I got for you. Please keep posting but step your game up next time.

Teams play differently from week to week for different reasons. Matchups vary - we don’t play like freighted children. Sometimes we play against tougher opponents who just beat the crap out of us. We were 5-1 coming into this game and remember we beat Northwestern in a monsoon so let’s not be too critical of the coaches for choosing not to take too many chances on the passing game for that game. Minnesota had to play without their starting QB so this win was a relative easy win, it wasn’t because we suddenly did things differently as a result of coaching changes. We beat a handicapped team as we should have. They were an easier opponent and next week will be much tougher no doubt. I have no problems with the way we beat the teams on our schedule as long as we win because I don’t bet. If we beat each of them by 2 points we still win - who says we need to beat CMU by 24 points? You play to win - that’s all that I care about. And today You couldn’t have done much better than Clifford - 4 TD passes and 23/31 You going to pull him for that performance? You’re crazy, or you simply have a man crush on Allar.

I can’t say I disagree with this. Clifford played a pretty good game today, but he’s a 6th year QB whose ceiling is: “wildly inconsistent”.

I would have preferred we use this year to get Allar experience. The decision to stick with a not-very-good QB who’s in his final year is frustrating, and will be increasingly so if they lose to Ohio State and still keep going to Clifford thereafter.

Still— credit them with a nice bounce-back victory today, and let’s hope their best football is on tap for next week.

Uh, we absolutely play like frightened children. That’s why we’re 0-10 against Top Ten-ranked opponents since 2016.

I swear some of you people are either Pitt reading comprehension grads or you need your vision checked. I said Allar needs highlights. I didn’t say sit Clifford for the rest of the year. Good lord.

highlights mean getting him in for a whole half or more against MSU or Maryland or Indiania or Rutgers or all four so he can show off his arm. What is so bad about wanting that for the program? You have the number 1 HS QB recruit and you hide him? God forbid he comes in and looks good and someone who is really good at football says I want to look at PSU now(recruit or portal). Oh the horror.

Well we won the Big10 Championship in 2016 so I’ll take that year anytime. I guess Wisconsin, OsU, and Mich, played like scared children that year.

No, you play whichever QB gives you the best chance to get win 11 in your scenario.

Nice game by Clifford for all you naysayers. Give the kid some credit. He did very well tonight. The one interception he through was partially due to his receiver falling down, so who knows what might have happened if he had not done so. Other than that, he managed the game very well and made good decisions. He was 23/31 with 4 TDS.

Let's have a pool to see how many games it will take next year for the resident Allar fan club members to turn on him.
Playing is a terrible thing to do to an icon.

Overall he did play well. On the interception though the receiver was open and running left and Clifford threw a bad ball over his right shoulder.

You sound like the coaching staff at times - more concerned with the recruiting side than the actual playing-the-games side.

Yup it happens. You're right. But the OP said the receiver fell down, he fell down while trying to adjust to a poorly thrown ball. He was open and would have scored. It was one throw and overall Clifford did have a good game. PS benefited from several questionable calls and no calls as well. Nice win. I hope this Saturday they play better than expected.
