Yup it happens. You're right. But the OP said the receiver fell down, he fell down while trying to adjust to a poorly thrown ball. He was open and would have scored. It was one throw and overall Clifford did have a good game. PS benefited from several questionable calls and no calls as well. Nice win. I hope this Saturday they play better than expected.
Several questionable calls and no calls? Ummm, huh? Only obvious missed call was the hold on Warren’s TD.

Potential PI wasn't called on PS interception and questionable PI was called on Minny leading to a PS TD a play later. Happy for a big win, but there's no denying PS benefited from some pretty tacky calls and no calls.

on the PS interception, our DB was looking at and playing the ball. He has the same right to the ball as the receiver. I think that played into the refs mind.

on the latter, I thought it was going to be defensive holding on Minny given you can’t mug a player downfield before the pass is thrown.

PSU could win and empirical evidence here says the loyal BWICAC would declare....."We deserve better."

I'll give ya the benefit on the possible PI on the INT. King had a hand on the towel going down the field and then the receiver tripped. The angle the official had there gave him no chance of seeing the slight grab. The call on Minnesota was really a hold but because the ball was in the air, it's labeled as PI. College football as a whole needs to do something about that call because there were a couple of games where I saw similar plays that were called PI's and the ball had zero shot of being caught (including one in the Miss-LSU game where the ball ended up in the first row of the stands).

Franklin, the coaches and team were on their game last night. Great W.

For those of you who think that many of us are never satisfied and love to complain about Franklin, let me explain my rationale. He should beat Minnesota, Indiana, Rutgers, etc. We recruit better and have better players. We should win those a vast majority of the time.

My issue with Franklin is that in big games against the big boys (Ohio St, Michigan, occasionally another team), we lose. We arguably have similar talent (maybe not with OSU) but we lost a majority of the time. And in the biggest games, he seems to turtle up, blow it with the clock management, make bonehead calls, etc. In our biggest games, the errors he makes a lot we can’t overcome due to the talent gap. And I think he buckled under in most of the games and does some of his worst coaching.

So, 10-2 is great. But when you have the talent to compete for undefeated seasons and yet time and time again your coach blows it, it’s frustrating. I don’t expect us to beat Bama for a NC yearly. But it sure would be nice to feel like Franklin can deliver on the big stage against a big time team that we’re not ‘supposed’ to beat by 20.

Speaking for myself only, Franklin’s ceiling is 10-2 most years with an outside (<5%) of undefeated. And maybe that’s good enough. I’m frustrated because we cannot get over the hump and he doesn’t seem like the guy to get us there.

Dude, you gave me nothing to work with here. You almost spelled “you’re” right and you missed the second period, but that’s the best I got for you. Please keep posting but step your game up next time.
Great you are a snobbish jerk also. Sounds like a winning combo.

We lose last night, and people put it in the “can’t win big games” category…we win, and now Minnesota wasn’t very good and we should always beat them.

We’re 6-1 and will be ranked about 13th today…not awful for an unranked team coming into the season in a mostly rebuilding year. Yet you’d never know it from many of the posters around here.

You just described pretty much every coach in the country outside of three or four.

We don't recruit better and better players. Franklin recruits them. Funny how some fail to think this through.
So basically, if he were a lousy recruiter.....with the same record, he'd be a good coach.

Doing more with less - you’re good. Doing less with more - not so much. Apply that to everything, not just coaching.

Great. So what’s wrong with wanting to be one of the top 3 or 4 teams annually with a top 3 or 4 coach?

Where did I say that?
You criticize him correctly or incorrectly as doing "less with more." Yet he is responsible for recruiting. We don't bring talent to PSU and it doesn't grow on the trees in Centre County. James deserves the credit for delivering excellent recruiting classes.

Read my post from earlier. I said we have talent far exceeding most teams. I didn’t recruit these kids. You didn’t. I gave Franklin credit.

You can't polish mud and you can't educate a moron. But, how bout them Nittany Lions? Must have been hard for you to watch.
Don't be so hard on yourself. I think I can educate you a teeny bit. If you're willing.

Why would that have been hard for me to watch? I'm one of the guys railing on the never-Franklins. I predicted we'd whoop these guys, even if their starting QB was healthy and Clifford and others didn't play.

Believe it or not, sparkles, you can support a program, and a coach, and still point out when and where they made mistakes. You don't have to be a stan, stomping your feet and crying that you can never question a coach because coaching is so dang hard ... which is why PE teachers are so prevalent in coaching - because that's where all our great (sports) minds go. There's a happy medium between the "Franklin must go" crew who criticize everything he does, and doesn't do ... and the "Don't be mean to my snookums! He's trying!" crew helmed by you.

Well, you be content with 8-4, 9-3 stuff. I’ll continue to hope for better.
It doesn't matter what I'm content with or what you hope for. None of it impacts the bottom line. Coaches and players compete, we watch and drink beer. I've enjoyed national championship seasons and I'll enjoy this season.....whatever it brings.

I wasn’t alive the last national championship. So I’m anxious for one.

We watch, we drink beer, and we comment on what we're watching. No one cares that you don't like it. It's part of the fan experience. Shaddup already.
