I disagree. If PSU had stopped Minny on 3rd down, they would have had 2 TOs left, and over a minute left in the half. That's why PSU called the TO after 2nd down when they stopped them for a short gain. Alas, Minny converted the 3rd down.

Stop them on third down they still have 45+ seconds and two timeouts.

These lapses are clockwork under this coaching staff.
Yup... which is why the timeout on 2nd down seemed like the right call, but we just have a knack of having a lapse that allows the other team back in it. Let the clock run there, we get the ball back with 45 seconds left and 2 TOs..... and go in to halftime up 17-3

I thought the board coaches were smarter than this. Has nothing to do with analytics or any of that other crap. Defense has all the momentum in the world and Minnesota is getting the ball to start the 2nd half. So call that timeout with 1:48 to go on defense and set up 3rd down. Get that stop and you have the ball with all the time in the world to do whatever you want and not just chuck chuck chuck. They give up the 3rd down play and now everyone whines and complains.

We have the best “after the fact” coaches on the planet on this board.

100% agree. This happen on a regular basis where JF calls TO and backfires. No way they score without JF TO call.

I wish some of yall would pick a side other than "shìt on Franklin regardless."

Timeout? Bad idea.

No Timeout? Poor clock management.

They've put Carter and Jacobs on the field and we are still struggling vs the run. DL is weak. PJ is not as strong as he was last year pre injury and none of the other DTs are stout enough.

Nope. Minny made an amazing throw and catch. Our defense should be able to rally and react to that. They were too aggressive, IMO, and got burned. Once when they couldn’t get to the QB and let him get into the second level and once by missing Ibrahim on what appeared to be a run blitz.

The coaches need to step up and put these kids in better positions to respond to those big plays.

Oh that's BS. If they had gotten the stop and then PSU scores on the ensuing possession, you'd have been calling it a brilliant timeout.

I’d love it if someone had the data handy. I’m curious what percentage of the time each scenario has played out. My hunch is that JF had an analyst who has that data.

Don’t be a moron. If you can’t see the issue with the timeout at the end of the half you have no business making a comment.

No - before he called it I was saying wait till 4th down. This is not the first time this has happened.

But it's not an analytics play.
Exactly right... it's a situational call. Considering our offense had looked very poor on the previous series, I personally thought the odds of getting the ball back and scoring were low. Play field position, take a 2 score lead into halftime.
