Bryant at Bama:

1. 6 titles in 25 years with 2 x back-to-back (Joe had 2 total separated by a few years)
2. Undefeated against your god
3. 11 consecutive top-10 finishes in the last 12 of his career (Joe's longest was 3)
4. His last NC was 3 years prior to retiring (25 years for Joe)
5. Nothing but winning seasons 25 years running
6. Won 83.4% of his games (Joe 75.0%)
7. Won first NC in year 4 (Joe in year 17)

There is much more but you get the idea. You can have 409 and a lot of bowl games, but that is about all of Joe's major accomplishments.

Bryant did great at Bama and definitely got the better of Paterno in the head to head matchups. That said, MNC's are, and always were, awarded. The majority of times, teams are be awarded them for what they won, but...post WWII, there are a few things you left out:

• Most awarded MNC's before his team eventually lost a game the same season: Bryant 2
• Most awarded MNCs as a one loss team that lost only matchup against another one loss team: Bryant 1 (tied by Bowden)
• Record in a bowl when going against a perfect record team:
  • Bryant 3-2
  • Paterno 2-0
• Record in a bowl when playing for a MNC and/or perfect record:
  • Bryant 5-4
  • Paterno 6-2

Every coach has a "kryptonite". Bryant was 0-4 vs. ND.

No, there’s plenty on the internet showing that his name and image are not revered by all. Whether it’s all true is another thing, but he isn’t revered by all. You’re over the top.
