57kg - RBY and Lee unseeded
65kg - Zain unseeded
74kg - Dake seeded #1 and opposite Sidakov
86kg - Brooks unseeded
97kg - Snyder seeded #3 and on the same side as defending world champion Akhmed Tazhudinov and two-time Olympic and 5-time world champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev. A ridiculously bad draw
125kg - Paris seeded #3 and on the same side as Petriashvili who beat Mason last year but was hurt last week in Budapest.

Good seeding is impossible with international wrestling but I agree that seeds are a joke. They should just random draw the entire field, IMO.

Having our guys unseeded makes zero sense. Brooks hammers the #1 ranked guy and doesn't get seeded.

Hammers.......the best in the world.

Intl wresting is a joke.
They have zero matches at the ranking series over the past year. It would be like seeding giving a guy a high seed at the NCAA tournament with only a handful of wins over teammates.

There was a ranking series going on over the last two days that impacted these seeds that they could have wrestled at and chose not to.

You have to wrestle at international UWW events to get points to be seeded and none of those guys have, Pan Ams is not a ranking series event.

exactly. The seeds makes sense. If DT had beaten Brooks, he would be the #1 seed. AB had a great tournament, but his beating DT, and not having wrestled in UWW events the past 2 years, means he's unseeded. Spencer Lee did great in Cadet and Juniors, but due to injuries he's not been active in UWW events the past 2 years, so he's unseeded. Etc.

Having 2 Tazhudinov, 3 Snyder, and 7 Sadulaev all in the same half is less than ideal, but that's the seeding system that everyone agreed to years ago.

For Snyder, it means he's a near-lock to make the semis. He'll only have to beat 1 of those guys to make the finals, and immediately after they face each other. So he probably has a better chance at gold than if he were in the other half and had to face one of them in the finals the next day.

It also means that if he loses the semis, he will have qualified for repechage, but will have to beat the other to win bronze. So he could finish 1, 2, 3, or 5.
