I feel like we’re going into this game with zero pressure. I think we could maybe steal this one. The Tennessee game is the one we could not afford to lose. No one expects us to win at Florida, which is exactly why I think we can go in loose and possibly pull it off.

We will need to shoot a high percentage and make a good amount of 3s. Limit our turnovers and not lose the rebounding margin by too big a margin. Must make our free throws because down low we can’t contain them. We have to execute everywhere else and limit mistakes to win.

With these two teams, you can almost throw home advantage and previous stats out the window. It's as close as to Duke and UNC as you will get in the SEC. A true rivalry that I don't think gets enough press and recognition.
As far as modern basketball era like the 1980’s and beyond the Florida rivalry is definitely the premier matchup in the SEC.

Yes, I think we have to play zone and force them to make outside shots. May have to keep mixing up defenses and keep them off balance. Would sure be nice to have JQ for this one.
Yeah it would be. Sadly he should be in this game. I still think that his dad and team is shutting him down. I know the report that doctors haven’t cleared him, but if he isn’t cleared by now swelling isn’t all that is wrong with his knee. Add that to his dad’s comments right around the time we were (struggling/ his bad play) a little still and I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

Strategy 1: Keep Doug Shows off the court
Strategy 2: Keep Pat Adams off the court
3: Rebound rebound rebound even our tall guards
4: Pack it in and make them beat us from the outside
5: Hit 3's and finish the easy ones
6: Hit FT's

I agree with everyone mentioning running a zone against them. I think that would be the best strategy. They have to play better in the first half than they usually do as well, we can’t be giving them a big lead.

And while modern, that’s still a very long time. We’re talking about 45 years since the 80’s. Personally, I think it started really heating up in the late 90’s until present day. UK was just way better than UF before that. Even in modern history, UK has the clear advantage, but it’s still a great rivalry due to the success of the programs and the fight to be #1 in the SEC.

I watched them beat Alabama by 23 last week. Their front line is going to be a massive problem. I think we are going to get murdered on the boards. I would definitely running a lot of zone and force them to beat us from deep and help us out on the boards.

I would say it started when Donovan came to Gainesville, especially when they beat UK in 1998 in Rupp with White Chocolate, Stolt, Weeks, etc. I know White Chocolate got suspended and it derailed Florida's season, but then, they beat UK again in 1999 (in Gainesville) and they made the Sweet Sixteen. Norm Sloan had some success at times, and Lon Kruger laid the foundation, and Donovan just took off. Florida has been the class of the SEC in the last 20 years, even though, I think the H2H slightly favors Kentucky (or it's even, but Kentucky just won 9 out of 10 coming into the 2023-24 season, so who knows).

It was Arkansas in the early to late 90's, but it's been Florida ever since. Tennessee has played pretty even with Kentucky too in the last ten years, but Florida has won titles, and Tennessee has not been to a FF.

Class of the sec? My guy we are 13-2 in the past 15 games vs Florida. In the past 20 years they have won 4 SEC championships to our 7, they have won 4 sec tournament championships to our 6, we both have 4 final 4s, and 8 elite 8s in this time frame. Obviously the more you go back the more we dominate, but even in the last 20 years they do not lead us in any category other than championships, which obviously matters most, but we have been consistently better than them over the past 20 years besides a handful of years.

I’d love to win this game, but I can’t feel optimistic about the matchup. We really struggled with the length of Ament due to not having Williams and Haugh is another level above that. I’ll be hoping for a Cats win but definitely not expecting one on Saturday.

That said, I’d definitely play heavy in the gaps and make Florida beat you from three.
The 3 pt stats i looked at a few weeks back show that Lee & Fland aren't shooting that great of a clip, maybe that's changed so Idk?

CBS always wanted this game & it's always the last game of the regular season whether it's in Gainesville or Lexington.

This is the game that JQuit needs to become JQ again, and log some quality minutes off the bench! UK can take sole possession of 1st place in the SEC (I can’t believe I’m actually saying that), and improve their March seed line!

If he didn’t come to UK to play in this scenario, why did he come at all? Seriously 😳

Remember, Florida plays a mid-week game and Kentucky does not (Florida had their "mid-week off" week already). If Florida wins tomorrow, it will be a tie. Florida would be 9-2; Kentucky would be 8-3 coming in. We only take sole possession of first place if Florida loses twice, A&M loses, and Arky would have to lose too (8-3 now, A&M plays tomorrow). Otherwise, it would just be a tie.

Jelly has been playing tougher in the lane as far as boxing out and going hard for boards. But he and Mo will have their hands full with Chinyelu as he is a different animal. Oweh is used to guarding bigger guys but he will also have his hands full with Haugh. He plays a little more perimeter this year as the 3 but is still aggressive in the lane.
If we can force them in to lots of 3’s (and they miss lots) and keep the rebounding somewhat respectable then we have a chance. Oh ya, also have to hit a good amount of 3’s and knock down F/T’s.
Did I miss anything?😜

This will be a hard one. No way we can get way down early. What would be your strategy in this game?
Make shots. Duh, right? That has been the formula since the Vandy debacle. I think has a ton to do with shot selection though. This team is good on offense in transition. They are also good the last 10 seconds or so of a possession. Where they really struggle is if there is no transition and they still take a quick shot. That happened a ton at Vandy. No numbers and either Oweh or Aberdeen dribbling in the middle 1/3 trying to get downhill and everyone else standing and watching. Early ball screens that lead to nothing yet the guards trying to get something just to get offense early in the possession. They let Vandy's guards and their pressure speed them up way too much. Run like crazy, if you get something in transition take it. If you don't have numbers or an easy look then spend the next 20 seconds running good offense to get a decent look. Don't immediately come out of transition, hit a ball screen and throw up some heavily defended shot in traffic.

Oversimplifying here but don’t come out throwing the ball away.

We need the team to let Aberdeen cook. He’s going to want this one. Florida is too good this year to go straight up we need to let them shoot the 3 ball and move or die with it.
This is my concern. When he forces, along with Oweh, the offense is awful.

Very well could be. When the team turns into black holes at 3 of 5 positions it gets brutal. I think Aberdeen is going to want this one similar to Oweh against Oklahoma. Might be a time to actually let him loose. Lots of bad blood between him and Florida. On the flip, Florida probably isn’t too fond of him either.

Either way I don’t see a win at Florida this year so I’m just throwing sht to the wall.

Still waiting on Chandlers breakout 35 point game. Maybe this one is it.

Only thing you missed is, *Yela. Not jelly. It doesn’t sound like his name at all lol.
