Look what our sitting SC State Attorney General Alan Wilson said in the middle of an ongoing opioid overdose crisis that is now killing over 100,000 Americans annually! He's bought out by Big Pharma making big campaign contributions. 1000001519.jpg

Didn't you know SC is WAY behind other states (#46) in getting rid of old outdated weed laws originally based on Jim Crow 1.0 style racism? Instead of wasting $100 MILLION Annually fighting a losing battle against a healing PLANT, SC could EARN Over $100 MILLION Annually by legalizing it & taxing it here! Do the math. That's $1 BILLION saved/earned in only 5 years to finally fix our WORST in the USA public schools and roads!

You sound like (D) politician, playing the race card and using the "fix our roads" and "fix our schools" hot-buttons in an attempt to garner support.

Not a politician! As for the race card, maybe you aren't aware of "Staggering Racial Disparities" going in SC regarding cannabis? Are you OK with blacks being arrested 10X more than white folks when usage is about the same? If so, you sound like a white guy who is unconcerned with racism.

2 SC Counties in TOP 10 Nationwide for cannabis arrests

As for fixing SC roads and schools, voters did not pass ANY voluntary extra taxes to fix SC roads! Why not let legal cannabis fix our roads without costing taxpayers a Dime? Same with schools!

24 Legal states have now earned $20 BILLION in LEGAL taxes! The previous year. the total was only $15B. (ACLU says SC wastes $100M Annually enforcing woefully outdated SC laws.)

$20 BILLION Pie, growing exponentially, but SC gets ZERO!

SC Prohibitionists, generally Republican, try to deny cannabis prohibition was based on racism.

As PROOF that's not true, just read some quotes from the "Father of Marijuana Prohibition" himself Harry J. Anslinger!

WARNING: Racist quotes by Harry J. Anslinger are both SHOCKING & OFFENSIVE! You were warned...

I can't believe OP joined a Gamecock sports message board to post about legalizing drugs. Perhaps he didn't realize that this isn't Facebook or whatever social media platform normally used.

Didn't just join. Apparently, you haven't realized cannabis is NOT a (dangerous) drug yet. It's an amazing healing PLANT made by God, not a lab!

Did you know cannabis was a key ingredient in the formula to make "Holy Annointing Oil" from The Bible? It calls for 6 Pounds of it in fact! :)

Will there be tailgating?

Not sure. I guess you will have to attend to find out. I will say Snoop Dogg has been INVITED! He has family in Upstate SC too. When he visited his Granny in Union. SC a couple years back, it was quite a scene! He was traveling in his tour bus from Charlotte & told his Granny he would stop by for a visit. When he pulled up in front of her house, there were 500-600 people there wanting to see him! Cops had to direct the big traffic jam that literally came out of nowhere!

I'll link to an article about his SC visit below.

It is NOT CONFIRMED Snoop is coming! But, we did talk directly with his NYC booking agency & offered a chance to speak on the Capitol steps. Will he show up? Who knows?

Since this is a political thread, I expect the moderators will lock this one down pretty soon.

Hopefully not. We had a similar discussion last year before the January 2024 Capitol rally and it was allowed to remain (educational purposes?).

Everyone remained civil. No major disputes.

Virtually everyone in here wants to see better SC public roads and schools. Right? But, most don't want to pay more taxes to get those improved roads & schools. Legalizing cannabis is a REAL solution to pay for it, as done in D.C. & dozens of other states. Why not SC too?

Sorry I am against legalization. I`ve seen too many people become psychotic, at times really out there, and end up in the ER. Maybe it was laced sometimes but who knows. I know - if they legalize it then it won`t be laced. Even if you don`t get psychotic it still impairs your cognition. I know - what about alcohol. My best argument is that alcohol is obviously not illegal - hard to undo that but I`m not suggesting that.

Nobody really suggests that. There was a major UK study in 2015 (I think) that compared ALL of the legal and illegal intoxicating substances. It found Booze was 114 TIMES MORE Dangerous than cannabis, which was also found to be the safest of all the substances tested. It does make sense. Allowing safer cannabis will Save Lives!

Alcohol found to be 114X More Dangerous than weed!

Will there be special giveaways? Asking for a friend.

Can't promise any giveaways. But, I did hear an advocate say they wanted to "Reward" everyone who brings a portable Bluetooth speaker from home to Jam with us using Spotify's new JAM feature! Has anybody tried doing this before? A button marked JAM pops when you bring up the "420 Minute 420 Playlist of 420 Music" on there.

The more people that bring out their Bluetooth speaker from home, the louder the music gets!

We do want to give a prize to whoever brings the loudest Bluetooth speaker to this event.

Unlike in some States, there is NO decibel sound limit on the SC Capitol grounds. When getting our permit, I was told if anybody tells us to turn our music down, we DON'T have to!

Let me say this. We hope to at least have a free SCCC sticker ($4.20 value!) as a giveaway. That way, when someone asks you about it, you'll have to tell them where you got it. That may inspire them to attend the next rally the following year. :)

Because there will be impressionable young kids on school class trips to visit the SC Statehouse, songs with Expletives or N words will *NOT* be played! This was also the case in previous years as well.

Another important point. We do NOT want folks to light up anything, Legal OR Illegal at the event! WHY? We do not want anybody getting arrested! The Capitol police will be cruising around the Statehouse grounds in golf carts.

The "420 Minute 420 Playlist of 420 Music" is up on Spotify NOW! The first song is "Homegrown" by Neil Young from his 1978 album "American Stars and Bars". WHY? Because SC patients should be able to grow a few plants at home to help heal their diseases! This is the ONLY way to make cannabis medicine affordable to all in SC!

Cannabis is NOT ideal for everyone, especially students in school or anyone if they'll be driving. If SC went legal, it would only be for Adults 21+.

People and patients in SC are fed up with people in other states having access to a truly amazing healing herb, while we don't have that freedom.

Why keep wasting $100 Million in SC taxpayer money annually to keep these outdated laws in place? 24 states are using their WINDFALL weed taxes to fix their roads and public schools today!

The effort to allow medical cannabis in SC goes all the way back to when there was a NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) Chapter as an Official USC Student Organization. USC students testified (& successfully lobbied) for reform as witnesses in front of SC General Assembly subcommittees.

Very few know it. but SC passed a very weak medical marijuana bill in 1980 & it was signed into law by Democratic SC Governor Richard W. Riley. Sadly, not ONE patient was ever helped! You almost had to be on your death bed with Cancer or going BLIND with Glaucoma to even qualify! SAD!

Like it or not, a majority of Americans now live in a LEGAL State! SC needs that tax revenue.

Some SC patients can't hold out much longer.
After so many years of nothing being done, we must do something! We're trying to help out.

Calling for 21+ Adult-Use cannabis legalization makes any medical bill seem more reasonable as a potential compromise on this important issue.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Why not make the Rally about the medical benefits instead of everything 420 (which stands for time to get high) or playing a bunch of Greatful Dead music everyone can sit around and get high to. If you wanna be taken seriously then act like it. Nothing about your rally is saying anything other than we want to legalize pot so we can get high. You sound like a bunch of stupid pot heads!

I'm afraid your negative bias is showing. And, I'm pretty sure we haven't played a Grateful Dead song in years 1 & 2. None set for 2025 either. lol

In short, been there, done that, hasn't helped! Small gatherings of SC patients and advocates, whether inside the atrium or outside on the steps, has not impressed anyone - much less members of the SC General Assembly. Last year's event was on a Wednesday during the session. Legislators saw us out there and probably heard our music. We have to some way, some how, bring together a larger size crowd to show the people want REFORM!

Don't assume we're just promoting getting high. Cannabis is a CURE for many different serious diseases! If you're unaware of that, that's on you.

Man, that's quite a stretch for you to call me out as a racist (I'm NOT!) based solely on who I/we invited to speak at this rally. Quite a low blow too.

Snoop Dogg has family here in SC and even old friends from his days growing up in Brooklyn who now live in Columbia. One of his friends runs a vape shop in Columbia that has been hassled by the local Sheriff's office! He's asked him to come too. There's a slim (OK tiny) chance he'll come.

I doubt Willie has family here. We probably would've heard about that by now. Besides, Willie has promoted cannabis law reform in Columbia, SC for decades! HOW? A :30 radio PSA (Public Service Announcement) made by Willie for NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) has been running on WUSC-FM (90.5 FM) since the 1970s. Willie's already done more than his share for the cause. No chance he will come.

Does that satisfy you? Geez!

It sounds to me you are only aware of the negatives. Let me ask you. Have you ever heard of Rick Simpson Oil (abbreviated as RSO)? I doubt it.

Are you unaware of ANY of the many miraculous cures that have come from cannabis oil? If not, you've only heard the prohibitionist viewpoint!

Did you know there have been patients with Stage 4 (Terminal) Double Black-Lung Cancer (that their doctors gave up on them) CURED by RSO?

Could a single first-hand account could change your mind? Maybe! Cannabis works especially well on things docs can't fix - like a Brain Tumor!

Episode 434: From Lung Cancer to Brain Tumors: One Woman’s Battle and Breakthrough

Description of above episode: "When Jacki Campbell from Idaho was diagnosed with lung cancer that had spread to her bones, she braced herself for a long fight. But even after enduring conventional treatments, devastating news followed—her cancer had spread to her brain, and doctors told her she had only five years to live. Refusing to give up, Jacki turned to cannabis oil as her last hope. Today, against all odds, her latest PET scan shows no visible signs of cancer, with just two small lesions in her brain that continue to shrink. Jacki’s story is one of resilience, hope, and the life-saving power of cannabis."

Seriously, most folks in SC are clueless as to the many medical benefits of cannabis. If YOU or anyone you know develops a serious disease, I would strongly suggest you visit the same website where that woman cured herself with cannabis oil. You should scroll all the way to the bottom of their home page, type in whatever disease you have and BINGO! You will hear first-hand accounts from people who beat that disease by using cannabis.

Cannabis Health Radio

Here's maybe THE most persuasive episode I would STRONGLY encourage any cannabis skeptic to listen to. A judge makes a 100% turnaround!

Episode 142: As a Judge He Put People in Jail for Cannabis Use, But Cannabis Cured His COPD.

Description of above episode: "Retired Judge Doug Bench from Florida, who put more than 300 people behind bars for marijuana crimes, got the shock of his life when cannabis saved his life from COPD. He now says his past actions haunt him daily. Today, he focuses on educating the public on the medical benefits of cannabis and helps others. This is an episode you don't want to miss."

AMAZING Story! VERY Powerful! He hated weed and severely punished hundreds for it as a judge. When his wife did the research to find a cure, she had to hide the key ingredient from him. When he found out it was cannabis, he refused. His wife then said if he doesn't let her cure him, she'll be leaving him. He remained stubborn until he saw his wife's bags packed at the door as she was about ready to let him suffer alone.

I am against legalization. The beneficial claims about pot sound like the old snake-oil salesmanship (it literally cures everything and even removes stains!). But somehow this wonder-substance has eluded the attention of Pfizer, Kaiser Permanente, and other companies who would be in a position to make a gazillion dollars from it, if it worked.

But if it is legalized, I certainly hope the state is not dumb enough to attach any specific revenue generation to it beyond ordinary sales tax. Creating special vice taxes to go toward some special cause or another (think education, healthcare, law enforcement, infrastructure, etc) is just a ploy to make state government dependent on the revenue from said vice. You could say it makes the government addicted to it. Once that happens, you'll never get rid of it no matter what potential negative outcomes are discovered down the road.

You don't get it. You can't patent a natural product, so there is no big money in it for them. Big Pharma doesn't want you cured. No profit in that!

If we want to reach the goal of earning $100 Million annually in taxes, it will take a 10% State Excise Tax. Some states are 15% and Washington 25%!

SCCC proposes also giving all 46 SC counties an automatic 1% share of the revenue in year 1 to find out how much revenue we are talking about. In Year 2, counties can VOTE whether they want to DROP OUT and lose that revenue (giving it up to other counties), keep the same 1% tax rate going forward or DOUBLE IT to a maximum of 2%. That would give a significant amount of local control on who gets a share of the windfall tax revenues.

Pot heads are damn losers!

You think DRUNKS are better citizens? You're in a LEGAL state! SC is now #1 WORST Drunk Driving Death Rate in the USA! All the ILLEGAL states like SC are up at the top of that list. And, guess what, all of the LEGAL states are found down near the bottom of that same list. Coincidence? Nope.

Somebody get this clown off the board - Geez - I you make the case that marijuana is a dangerous drug!!

Dude, we are learning (some reluctantly) about an Amazing NATURAL Cure for numerous serious diseases - especially CANCER! "I you make the case"? Sounds like you've been drinking. NO! It's a PLANT created by GOD! It's been a medicine for THOUSANDS of years! Go educate yourself!
