What is the *BEST* car you ever owned not counting the one you own now?

For me it would be a 1967 Corvette that I got in 1970. It was a black on black hardtop with a 327 and 4-speed. I owned it until about 1975 when my wife totaled it while she was commuting to MSU (we lived about 45 miles away at the time) to finish up her degree. I loved that car. My wife said she thought I was disappointed that she totaled the car and didn’t get a scratch on her (I wasn’t) but I did love that car. I replaced it with a 1973 blue corvette with a 454 but I never liked it as much as the ‘67.

2001 Toyota 4Runner. SR5 edition. It wasn't the top of the line but was my first Toyota. 447,000 miles in 12 years before a drunk driver put me in a ditch upside down. Over that time, I had 1100 dollars in true repairs. I truly believe I would have gotten close to a million miles had it not been totaled. There is nothing like a Toyota

Once you top 600K miles in a yoda it really goes down fast. You got lucky.

98 Tacoma 4x4. Bought new 21.5k. Drove it for 15yrs plus 250k miles. Only repairs, I had just replaced the alternator. Sold it in 2 days for 10k

If we are talking about best as in quality - I've got an '03 Camry that I bought from my Mom, drove for 5 years, then gave to my daughter in high school, then handed down to my son, and it has now gone to my wife. About to clip 300k and is in great shape.

My favorite I've ever owned was a '93 Celica GT convertible. It drove great, was a ton of fun, and zero maintenance, but after 225k the engine blew and i had to dump it. I miss that car.

Just out of high school until I got married, I owned a couple sports cars. ‘79 Trans Am- black with an oyster white interior. I kept it 4 years. I also owned a ‘78 corvette for a couple of years. Those cars were very fun to drive and both were PGMF’s.

so I would have a back seat for the car seat. Gave it to my oldest when he graduated high school 12 years later with 120K miles on it. He drove it for 3 years until someone pulled out in front of him on Hwy 12 when he was at MSU. Insurance paid him about 7K for it, and I don't think he has spent that 7K on a car to this day. Replaced tires, break pads, and the starter. That's it.

99 2wd s10 in college. 250k+ miles on it and only thing I’ve ever done was replace the u joint.

2017 F-150. 3.5 Ecoboost 2wd. That sucker came out of the factory like Carroll Shelby spent years tuning it and It had crazy power and destroyed mileage estimated. 36 gallon tank and it could get 900+ miles to a tank on a road trip no problem.

Bought it new for $33k on Memorial Day of 2017. MSRP was $45k but there were huge rebates and the dealer marked it all the way down. Got hammered in a hailstorm in 2019. It was all over the roof, hood, and bed. A few tiny dings on the fenders. Got an insurance payout of $17k. Spent $3k to buy a take off hood (which was common for people trying to make fake raptors), new windshield, camper shell, and got a dentless repair guy to fix the fenders. Looked perfect unless you are 6-6 or taller and could see the roof.

Had to trade it in this summer to get a 250 for payload and needed 4wd for all the snow. Got $24.5 on the trade in because of the crazy vehicle shortages. I ended up driving it for 4 years and almost 85k miles wound up making $5000 more on it than I had into it because of the insurance check.

That truck taught me that the flaw in the old idea of you lose 15% by driving off the lot. True... 15% off of MSRP. If you get big rebates and dealer discounts on a new truck, way better deal than buying used.

I had a 1997 F-150 and put nearly 300k miles on it with minimal repair cost. It was hard to beat that truck.

My first vehicle, 1962 Chevrolet Pickup. Flathead 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree shifter, AM radio, heater, side vent windows and that's it for extras. Put a Craig FM converter and 8 track in it later. It was a tank and surprisingly good in the mud w/ all terrains on it. I could sideswipe trees, bottom out or high center it, couldn't hurt it. It slid one day on slick mud and I got it wedged between trees. Tried to rock it out and finally said 17 it, put it in 1st and floored it running over the 4" or so pine in front and pushed it over and got free. Got out and looked, only some bark on the bumper and kept going. This isn't it but it was same color but was a long wheel base. 3 or 4 people could sit on the fenders and radiator and work on it w/ lots of extra room left over. It was so simple mechanically that anybody could figure it out. It wasn't the best from a comfort perspective but it was so damn solid and dependable.

2008 Saab 9-3 Turbo X wagon, was a rocket (315hp) AWD w paddle shifters. Got t-boned by an uninsured *******, totaled. Was vital for carrying drums to gigs and bikes to shred.
1998 Acura TL. Was the most solid car, smooth, had power, room, etc. Still wish I had it.

2001 Tacoma 4x4. Manual everything. I think an O2 sensor was the only thing that ever broke on it. Had 265k miles when I sold it. She is missed.

1974 Ford F100 4wd with standard shift, when I was in high school. No frills. Great truck. When it was virtually new, I got it stuck hunting. Literally a creek running through the cab. My father wasn’t impressed. But the truck did fine. Wenched it out and never looked back. My dog (a Malamute) rode in the back and liked the truck as much as I did.

2001 Buick Regal GS. It had a supercharged 240hp 3.8 V6. Fast as hell in a straight line but also a big, comfortable cruiser with a killer stereo and all the buttons. Pretty much invisible to cops since it was a Buick. (grandad car) It was white with a blue leather interior as opposed to the gray, black, or beige you get today. Absolutely loved that car. That love died when some drunk ***** plowed into it parked on the street.

We had great luck with both Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima. Most expensive fixes for both outside of tires was struts replacement on the Camry and wheel bearings on the Altima, common wear problems on both cars when they hit about 100k miles. Otherwise completely reliable cars.

My first vehicle was a 1990 Ford Ranger extended cab, one of the early models with power everything. Got it with 130k miles and drove it to over 200k before passing it on still drivable. It just burned a little oil.

2006 Honda CRV. 180k until it got totaled in a head-on. Saved my wife’s life.
Fluid changes, tires, brake pads, wipers, fuel. That’s it. Nothing broke on that car. 27mpg, and I miss it.

My best car could also qualify for the biggest pos thread. It was the first vehicle I paid for.

82 CJ7. Got me through college and a couple years after. Got it for 1/2 the listed price because only the front axle would work. .25 key pin and weld job later and it was in business. At some point before I got it the motor caught on fire and the transmission was replaced with a light duty transmission. I tore it up pulling a ski boat, and put in a heavier duty trans.

The gas gauge didn’t work, which as a dumb, broke college student left me stranded a few times. Had to keep aluma seal on me at all times because I never knew when the radiator would dump.

Overall I loved that thing. I gave it to my dad when I bought my next vehicle. He tried to give it back to me a few years ago. My knees were screaming at me while trying to drive it. Sadly I gave it back to him for good.

I had a 97 Toyota Tacoma roll down windows I got my Sr. Year of high school. Gave it back to my Dad many many years later after we had kids. He still uses it today as a work truck.

1995 Accord coupe VTEC, 5 speed, sunroof and all the upgrades. Bulletproof and got 30+ mpg if you drove 55 or 105 mph for over 10 years. Passed it along to a nephew at 350K when the odometer quit. It was still running when he sold it after a few years, miles unknown.

2001 Dodge 3500, cummins, 6 speed manual. 376,000 miles and 300,000+ of those miles were pulling a loaded trailer. I sold it around 2012 and still see it on the road from time to time around Mathiston. That truck was tough as $2.00 pig steak.
