It's sad we won't do concerts on campus anymore. Hardy was fun but we need a regular run of concerts. Do a summer series and some stuff in fall/spring semesters.
We don't try to get state championships to Starkville either. We let Hattiesburg reap those dollars.

A lot of them were already huge bands when they played at the Hump. We used to get some really good concerts back in the day. I was there when Bon Jovi played there. The concert was right after Slippery When Wet was released. Tickets were sold for about $10 right as the band was blowing up. I had never seen the level of ticket scalping that went on in the weeks leading up to the concert. I think they were going for $100, which was unheard of back then.

Interesting. I had just assumed these artists at the time were just trying to find their way for us to be able to pull these types of concerts off. Gah that's crazy.

I went to a few of those late 80's/early 90's. Those were good times. Thanks for posting.

We should do that again.

I've read before that some of the concert footage from the Bon Jovi show at the Hump was used for their famous "Wanted Dead or Alive" video.

I was there too. Drove in from high school with my group of ne'er do wells. (When did we do well? Ne'er.) Cinderella also kicked *** as the opening act.

We ended up staying in some college guy's house and I hooked up with a hot girl who I never got with again after that night - it's true what they say, you really don't know what you got 'til it's go-o-one.

There were more up until 2015. I saw Billy Joel twice at State. The other time was in '76 Billy Joel at State. I think that one was at another venue. Here's the rest of the list: State Concerts

I wasn’t paying attention and thought that this was a list of upcoming concerts at the hump. I was really impressed and confused. Then I saw Jimmy Buffett’s name and realized I was an idiot.

Don't know where you got that list but Billy Joel was NOT there in 79. I got to campus Aug 78 and he was there before then and they talked about that concert he never showed when I was there. It pissed me off that I never got to see him back in the day. Also Heart showed up 2 years in a row and you show once.

If I remember correctly Alabama came back in the early 90s. I seem to recall super Bulldog weekend but may have been a football weekend. I was there for that one.

I also saw Our Lady Peace at the amphitheater I think in the fall of 2000.

Swede was right though, the A-listers dropped off significantly after 2001.
We went to the ZZ Top concert after 2001 and it was excellent. I guess it depends on different people's A-list. We've also gone to several concerts at the Riley Center in Meridian. Did State switch from the Hump to the Riley Center?

1) The Widespread Panic panic (I think that was '98) was because everyone crashed the fences and walked in for free. People like me who paid money to buy a ticket were understandably pissed.
2) I saw Joan Jett & the Blackhearts for a Welcome Back to School concert at the Amphitheater, also. C&C Music Factory was also there.
3) Dave "Rocker" (Can't remember last name) was VERY instrumental in getting those great concerts in late 80s, early 90s. He was head of Music Maker Productions and did a great job.

Dave came to me when I was an SA Senator and asked for my help getting his idea of an Amphitheater built. I was able to find some money originally dedicated to stadium expansion that was coming out of Student Activity fees earmarked for 10 years, I wrote the bill so that the money would start on year 11 to go to funding of the Ampitheater. It passed and we worked with Roy Ruby, Dr. Zach, and the IHL to get it approved and built. I'm also proud that I was helpful in getting the Veterans Fountain built outside of the Union, but they tore it down.

I was there for Bon Jovi too. I was a sophomore in HS. It rocked! Because as Pat said, he was a huge name at that point.

Live was a co-headliner at the 2000 Counting Crows concert. It was funny. There were a couple of guys on dates int he row in front of us. When Live ended, the girls said "Let's go because Counting Crows is depressing." The guy said, "It's Live that's depressing. Lightning Crashes and Old Mother dies is about as depressing as it can get."

Also at the amphitheater, I forgot who it was but the drummer was out front. I think it was Cowboy Mouth and it was in 99 I believe but I could be wrong on the year.

Was at Bon Jovi and Cinderalla, Cinderalla rocked, totally stole that show. Also not on the list was The Bangles. Went to Tim McGraw, Whitesnake, and others. Sat up all night outside the Dude to get in for the Garth Lottery. Got ****** seats.

Black Crowe's at the Amphitheater was a blast.

Some really good concerts back in the day.

My wife / gf at the time and I saw Jason Aldean and local band Crossin Dixon opened for him.

Aldean introduced his band, two of the guys were from Starkville!

Crossin Dixon was really good too. That had a couple good songs around 06
