#16 N. Kentucky came up short against #1 Houston last night, 63-52. It was a close game throughout and was a single-digit contest with 2 minutes to go in the game.

NKU played smart and disciplined, though grossly outmanned athletically. That's what I like to see in the NCAAT, these smaller schools who are nowhere near as athletic but are able to keep games close by playing smart and disciplined. They were well-coached and prepared. Something for us to aspire to.

Too bad it didn't work out in Cola. I can say that about anyone who coached a USC varsity sports team and had minimal (if any) success.

Yep. He was a disaster here, but does quite well at the smaller schools.

He can obviously coach. His teams at WKU played smart basketball and NKU looked very well-coached last night. Not sure why it didn't translate here. He was dismal here, but has won 67% of his games overall at his other stops and 71% in conference.

Because recruiting at the power 5 level is more important than coaching. And high level basketball recruiting has been crooked for years.

I think we have been recruiting the wrong kind of players for 20 years. We don’t typically get the top recruits so we go after athleticism and get a bunch of guys that just want to play for a big school. There are much better basketball players out there. We tend to go after potential.

And to hell with Darrin Horn. Not only did he suck, but he advised all of his players to leave when he was fired. Real douche.

You can believe that if you’d like. Horn was atrocious here and left like an a$$hole. I get that he was fired. We should speak better about Brad Scott than Horn around here. That’s how big of an a$$ Horn was.
They were both awful

His excuses for not winning here got tiresome to say the least. True or false, he had to go for offering so many. For years he never talked about his team without calling it young... as if it wasn't common knowledge. The final nail in the coffin for me was saying no one could recruit here being we were in the middle of ACC country... as if no one was going to do better than he was doing. At least that's the way I remember it.
Kinda reminds me of when Sparky Woods said he didnt sign up for being in the SEC. He later changed his tune but knowing how he really felt, he had to go. And knowing how Horn really felt about this university in relation to the acc, he had to go as well.

He still sporting that bottle of Vitalis oil slick look on his head though, just some grey hairs now. He was a bust for sure at Carolina.

He was atrocious, but I don't see a need to create fake narratives to try making us more upset about things.

Exactly. We want every hired coach in every sport to have success at USC. While that's the goal, the reality is far from it.

Well, you say it’s fake. But we could go back and forth on that all day. It certainly doesn’t make me more upset. Just know the guy is a douchebag.

People forget WKU was already a NCAAT regular before Horn took the job there. He wasn’t popular at WKU, actually on the hot seat his 5th and final season a he hadn’t made it to the tournament. And we hired him because of a buzzer beater to beat another mid-major (Drake). NKU is his best coaching FG job, by far. That’s all I can say positive about the dude. He left this program in shambles.

Anyone have a viable reason why he did well everywhere but here? Was something going on here I’m not aware of?

As mentioned above…he didn’t really do all that well at WKU. He inherited a program that went to the tournament every year and it took him 5 years to make it. His W/L wasn’t bad, but fans weren’t thrilled with him. He possibly gets fired had he missed the tournament in his final season at WKU. He then beats 2 mid-majors to reach the Sweet 16 and we hired him.

NKU by far his best coaching job.
