Went down a rabbit trail the other day after something made me curious about an athlete's age.

Michael Jordan -- 58
Larry Bird -- 65
Magic Johnson -- 62
Isiah Thomas -- 60
Don Mattingly (childhood hero) -- 60

And that led me to look at actors, which was even more sobering.

Sylvester Stallone -- 75
Arnold Schwarzenegger -- 75
Bruce Willis -- 66
Tom Cruise -- 59
Michael J Fox -- 60
Mr. T -- 69
Harrison Ford -- 79

Hard to fathom that Sly, The Terminator and Indy are nearly octogenarians. Won't say all these of guys were my "idols" but they were all an integral part of the 1980s experience for me.

Time marches on. Now I know how my dad felt when seeing guys like Mantle drop off the scene.

Lots of good legacies among those people.

I grew up idolizing Mickey Mantle and astronaut Alan Shephard.

I have watched CBS Sunday morning with Jane Pauley most of my life ( preceded by Charles Osgood who was preceded Charles Kuralt). At an early age when they would show folks of note passing away I would occasionally know of one or two, now it’s rare if I haven’t heard or know of all of them.

Yeah, hard to believe she is 81. She and Christie Brinkley (68) have aged well. There were some beautiful actresses from the 1960s. Call me crazy but, I don't believe today's actresses compare well to those of the 1960s. Maybe I'm biased as I grew up in that era. As a teenager, I definitely had crushes for some of the actresses of those days, Raquel being one of them.
