Cheeseburger at Phillip's Grocery in Oxford. I think there is also one in Holly Springs.

One of the most overrated places in the state is also there. Taylor Grocery. Captain D's is better than that place!

The Tomato Place - Vicksburg

It’s the quintessential roadside dump with outstanding locally made food products and very good lunch. The fried green tomato BLT on fresh made bread with fresh cut fries is insanely good.

We buy a lot of their loaves of bread and bottled sauces. I dare you to find better syrup than the Pecan Rum Syrup. It’s the **** on waffles and fried chicken.

Biloxi seems to have more meth heads every time I go there. Plus, Yes Noodle (best combo fried rice anywhere) and Bootleggers Pizza are no more.

Brooklyn Pizzaria: Gulfport
Fillin Station: Biloxi (late night after a casino concert and beer)
Scarlet Pearl or Fresh Vietnamese Cafe for Pho: Biloxi
Hot Tamale Heaven: Greenville, sometimes you need some hot tamales and that place has a drive-thru.

IMO Best Burger in MS is The Flame Thrower from The Blue Rooster - Flora

I've had the smash burger at The Neon Pig and it was good but TFT is BUTTA!

I'll give Zip's a go next time I'm down that way. Will do the same with Bill's Creole.

One more for The Gone But Not Forgotten is Toot's Grocery - 2500 Confederate Ave Vicksburg.

It’s a damn shame I can’t get a burger at Toot’s from Pat anymore. Good times had in that place.

Some not yet mentioned:

Harvest Grill- Meridian
Mai Little China- Greenwood
Another vote for Letha's in Hattiesburg
Mexican Kitchen- Hattiesburg

One of the best Itallian Sub sandwiches I've ever had anywhere was:

Fratesi's Grocery&Deli- Leland MS

Mai Little China buffet was unbelievable before COVID now they won’t reopen. I hope they do someday, there Shrimp Cabbage is to die for

ETA: they won’t do the buffet, but still open for carry out sorry for any confusion

Had that a couple weeks ago. It's a good sandwich. It's a very MS place.

If you are into gas station food...

This guy goes all over the place....

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFYulwgGRKEAduxdnRbZdiA

Some places I like (gas station and other)

Larry's Fish House- Itta Bena

Betty's Eat Shop - Brookhaven - everything good, I like the BLT

Pearl's Diner - Laurel - Plate lunch - get the fried porkchop and mac n cheese

Biscuit's and Blues - Natchez - specifically, the gumbo

Alberto's Taqueria - in Dees Oil Corner Mart, John R Junkin in Natchez - really good Mexican. Authentic as you can get in SW Mississippi. Everything good.

The Rustler - Meridian

I will try to think of some more - I don't get outside of Natchez or NE Louisiana much these days.

Randomly saw Gibbes on Google maps earlier this week and it looked like an awesome atmosphere. Is the food good?

somewhat similar to Bills a la charcoal grilled steaks. Best thing to me is the lamb pop appetizer. Don’t definitely don’t overlook the grilled fish.

Not gonna say without a doubt the best steak or fish in MS but experience + food is rock solid. Never been disappointed

Another one close but not quite in MS is Diamond Jim's Steakhouse in Livingston, AL.

Damn good steak and seafood. I think they built a second one in Orange Beach, but it wasn't as good as the original location

If we're doing Picayune then you must have the Roast Beef Poboy from Frostop.

Leland: Fratesi’s Phillips 66 on 82. Best Philly Cheesesteak I’ve ever eaten. Gas station, bait shop, and self serve bar after 4pm. The yellow lab in there is laid back.

Not "Hidden Gems" because they are very well known, but Crystal Grill in Greenwood, Ajax in Oxford, Rusty's in V'burg, Weidman's in Murderidian and Crescent City in H'burg are some of the best restaurants in the 'Sip based in menu selection, price, history, ambiance and just good old cookin'. Not sure how much longer the Crystal Grill will be open, so get there sooner rather than later. Before Momma Hamils relocated, turned industrial and started filling troughs with Sysco food, it would have been on the list.

Beatty Street in Jxn may be considered a hidden gem? Bully's (near UMC) was a hidden gem until the owner participated in a drive by.

Gibbs is good, The Country Store in Lorman is overrated to me as well as Does in Greenville. The Neon Pig is Tupelo is the best burger I've had in the state. Kenova BBQ in Flowood is new, but has some of the best BBQ around. Although I haven't been in years, I've always been a fan of Captain Al's in G'port, the food was decent, a hottie runs it and they usually had some eye candy waitresses.

Capt Al's is a solid call

Good call on Brooklyn’s and the Fillin Station. Both great, although sometimes you have to wonder what the Brooklyn’s MSDH inspector was looking at to give them an A.

Maybe a minority opinion but to me Weidmann’s is overrated

Not sure if it’s hidden but I ate at Doe’s recently and it was one of the better steaks I have had at a restaurant.

Is Long’s Fish Camp worth the detour from Hwy 45 when headed north to MSU?
I don’t mind the drive for good fish!
