Leland: Fratesi’s Phillips 66 on 82. Best Philly Cheesesteak I’ve ever eaten. Gas station, bait shop, and self serve bar after 4pm. The yellow lab in there is laid back.

AKA: East Leland Mall and County Club

Shrimp poboy is also delicious.

Is Long’s Fish Camp worth the detour from Hwy 45 when headed north to MSU?
I don’t mind the drive for good fish!

Indeed it is. Watched the Egg Bowl with the owners & Lee Greenwood at a BWW in Pigeon Forge. We won. God Bless The USA!

Cafe 212 in Tupelo has brought me more happiness for my dollar than any restaurant in the world.

Bozo’s in Pascagoula for seafood
The Project Lounge in Biloxi for the best hamburger
Hook in Pass Christian for seafood

As someone mentioned, Mr Greek is great in Biloxi.

Project has the best burger. Just don’t expect to be able to see 6 inches in front of you

My three were going to be: Nails in Stewart, Fratesi’s in Leland, sand Sonny’s in Ackerman.

Since these have already been mentioned I’m going with McAnerneys in McCarly.

Biloxi seems to have more meth heads every time I go there. Plus, Yes Noodle (best combo fried rice anywhere) and Bootleggers Pizza are no more.

Brooklyn Pizzaria: Gulfport
Fillin Station: Biloxi (late night after a casino concert and beer)
Scarlet Pearl or Fresh Vietnamese Cafe for Pho: Biloxi
Hot Tamale Heaven: Greenville, sometimes you need some hot tamales and that place has a drive-thru.

The one time I went to fill in station I was not impressed. Could be just that it was lunch and hot as hell. I also thought that that Brooklyn Pizzeria was okay.

I have family that lives near Nails and Wades, both places are awesome. I didn't know McAnerneys was still open.

These are really as much Ice Creams shops as restaurants, but Spencers in Grenada and Staffords in West Point. Also two more hidden gems in Grenada, Carmellas (the best cheese sticks you'll find) and Orleans Bistro.

When in Gulfport, El Aguila on Teagarden road was a very nice surprise. Great top shelf margaritas and veggie options for the vegetarian wife.

The few times I've been there, the Fillin station has been really good, solid, and mediocre. Not sure if they are inconsistent or if it's just based on whether I ordered well or not.

Brooklyn's is really good pretty much every time I've been there. That said, it's hard to really distinguish yourself with pizza, so I get it not living up to expectations based on the way people talk about it.

I went recently and while it is good, and Zips deserves no disrespect, it is not close to the best burger in MS. I will go back when I pass through as it’s a cool little MS dive and I like it. The blue plate lunches I saw going out looked good as well.

Totally forgot Crechale’s on my list of hidden gems. Maybe it would be more accurate to call it a forgotten about gem due to location.

Lot of of Good Places listed
A few from the coast that I think are good but haven’t been mentioned.

Harbor View Cafe Long Beach
Pizza and wings from Uncle Joes back of Diamondhead.
Dat Kitchen Too in Waveland

Love gumbo pot in Vicksburg.
Steaks were good at beechwood but the smoke in the bar area would kill you.

Covid has hurt a lot of restaurants. Some places just haven’t been the same since or closed for good.

The Kennel Club there on the other side of J&R (shares a parking lot) is halfway decent as well

The Cafe on 49S directly across from Camp Shelby Southgate. You will NEVER get as much food for your money as you will there. 1 serving of Red Beans and Rice was $9 and I had 3 meals off of it. Ordered a sweet tea and the lady gave me a cup and a half gallon jug to take home.
Around Shelby it's referred to as "Sister's Cafe" or "2 Sisters" but the sign only says cafe. Apparently its 2-3 sisters who grew up in NOLA while their parents (and eventually them) ran a swanky restaurant in downtown

If you want to sound like you know what you’re talking about but want people that actually know the food business totally dismiss your opinion, just say “Sysco food” as it’s some sort of diss. Every restaurant you named has an account from Sysco, Performance Food Group, or US Foods. Just like when you visit the grocery store, you can buy ****, or you can buy high-end food. Food purveyors are no different. And if you’re inferring that there is a single buffet in this state buying high-end groceries for the lowest of low profit margins in the restaurant business, I’ve got beachfront property for you in Idaho. Both Mama Hamil’s and Berry’s are MS gems in the buffet game that do an incredible job.

So many of my favorite places have suffered too much from covid and I hesitate to list all of my favorite places because someone will comment they are closed, and learning that will hurt my feelings. Covid killed many so many good places.

TaKrai Thai on North Hills Road in Meridian
Shrimp PoBoys at Seafood Express (inside the Maple gas station on H-39)
Chicken tenders or Friday catfish at the pure oil gas station across from courthouse in DeKalb
Jerry's catfish (Igloo on H-49 in Florence)
Gumbo Pot (Halls Ferry Road - Vicksburg)
The Mermaid Cafe (On Lake Catherine - west of Canton)
Ubon's BBQ (801 Jerry Clower Blvd, Yazoo City)
Trace Grill (574 US-51, Ridgeland)
303 Jefferson (303 Jefferson, Clinton)
LOCOS Gas station (corner of Springridge and McRaven Roads in Clinton)

I will add more as my memory improves.
