Anyone have any recommendations for a restaurant in NYC for a group of about 10? Appropriate for corporate types - someplace nice, but fun; varied menu and cocktails; maybe a place you would go as a treat? @VaDave4PSU ?

Thanks in advance!

I've never actually stepped foot in New York beyond driving through there to get to West Springfield, MA lol

My best recommendation: Sam's Deli. Edgewood, Maryland. Best Philly I ever ate.

Victor’s Cafe on 52nd St. for great Cuban Food and a fun atmosphere.

Victor’s Café & Cuba Lounge is the ideal place for corporate or private events in New York City. We can accommodate from the most intimate of gatherings in one of our private rooms, and up to 200 guests seated or 300 standing for a cocktail party setting.

The restaurant is divided into three spacious dining rooms, accented with warm lighting, comfortable booths, colorful Cuban art, and lofty skylit ceilings. In addition, we offer off-premises catering services for private parties, as well as charitable and group events.

It cracks me up when someone posts a restaurant request thread and gets back a lot of chains. Repeat after me, "Life is too short to eat at chain restaurants!"

Bowery Meat Company in Mid-Town is my go-to for steaks in Manhattan right now, and we have had a few wonderful team meals there together.

Thanks Bruce! Definitely looking for something a little more foodie oriented (we looked at Gramercy Tavern but menu is too limited I think). But, that’s the ballpark….

My best "foodie" meal in NYC in recent years was at Le Bernardin, but reservations are difficult to score and the price is astronomical. Happy hunting -- NYC is one of those cities where you have to try hard to find a bad meal. Read a few Pete Wells reviews in the NY Times, and that will elicit a few suggestions.

If you like Mediterranean, try Avra Estiatorio. They have a few locations, but it is not a chain restaurant. Best lamb I ever had.

Surprised we haven’t seen a smart a$$ Sbarro reco by now. Maybe because I just saw the thread.

Sbarro, for old times’ sake.

Oh there was one - must have missed it! One of the great board traditions….
I was happy to oblige!

Haven't really been to NYC in a few years other than a quick in-and-out so I'm hesitant to make any recommendations, however most places in Hell's Kitchen are quite good.

The Tuscany on West 58th. Probably not for this particular occasion, but try it the next time you're back in Manhattan with your wife. Small intimate place with good steaks. Portions are very good.

Cuisine preferences and price point ($/person incl meal and drinks) would be helpful.

Are we talking government or investment banking expense report?

Investment banking but not Michelin 3 star. A little more casual - like a ‘team’ dinner where it’s okay to chat and be a bit lively. Menu is maybe new/rustic American? Not just one protein (like seafood). Good wine list/cocktails (bartenders ask for spirit preferences, know what a Martinez is, etc.). Small plates might be good too.

Grabbing a Nathan’s at a hotdog cart would be a good NYC experience.

Not everyone's palate is the same. I thoroughly enjoy some chain restaurants.
To each his or her own, but my years of eating with a discerning and adventurous palate have led me to conclude that all chain kitchens are indifferent at best, with a cook (not a chef) following corporate recipes and relying on a corporate supply chain - no local ingredients - emphasis on corporate profits for corporate investors over quality and innovation, and on and on and on....basically bags from the Sysco truck going straight into the fryer.

Rao's in technically now a chain, but I'd give it a try. Who do you know?
You can't get into the flagship Rao's on 114th St. unless you are friends with Anthony Scaramucci or Bo Dietl or one of the insiders. The question was about New York, not Las Vegas or Hollywood. I have had many Italo-American meals that were superior to Rao's, like Del Posto or Il Buco in New York.
