No I don't think people who say those things should be sued into oblivion.
I directly answered your question.
So now please directly answer mine.

Do you think what Alex Jones was sued for and made a career off of is equal to just saying 9/11 was an inside job or the moon landing was faked?
What alex jones SAID is no different than people saying 9/11 was fake. A few words might be different but the gist is exactly the same. Do you know what gist means?

Alex jones didn't make a career off of Sandy Hook. He made a career off of conspiracy theories. Sandy Hook was part of that career but a very small part in the grand scheme of his 20 some odd years of doing his thing

You don’t have to like any of the cable news networks, but none of them are even on the same planet as this A hole

ETA: I just realized I referred to them as cable news networks.

I don't like alex jones. But two things can be true at once.
1. He can be an insufferable douche bag and 2. also not deserve to lose $1.5 billion dollars.

1. Alex jones can be on a different planet and 2. CNN and MSNBC can be just as bad or worse considering they are mainstream and lie daily (i know they aren't the only ones)

The lawsuit was for defamation. He made direct comments about the families that caused harm and put them in danger. He also doubled down on it multiple times. You can’t just say lies about people that harm them and there not be consequences.

The people who claim 9/11 of the moon landing was fake are just idiots.
The news does it every day. They just get away with it b/c they say things like "allegedly".

You criticized me and said I am unsupportive of 1A because I think it was good that Alex Jones lost his court case and went bankrupt.
given that...
...do you think Alex Jones should have won his case against Sandy Hook families and continued on?

Answer that first. Again, in a discussion there is back and forth. I posted, you responded with criticism, I asked a question, and you have since I gored the question and asked multiple questions.
You rarely go back and forth. You rarely say anything definitive b/c you know you'll get trapped in it.

And yes I think alex jones should have won in the sense I don't think anything he did caused any collective group $1.5 billion in damages. Doens't mean i believe him or think he's not a douche.

I had a coworker once that listen to Alex Jones. Actually purchased his products. The guy would come in every day with some crazy conspiracy. He once got in trouble for going to IT and saying we are gonna get taken out by North Korea if we didn’t start getting our system ready. Guy was eventually let go for I think harassment.
After talking to this guy I have no remorse for AJ. Let’s just say he said some awful things about those kids parents.

Oh 17 no. It's not even remotely similar.

9/11 truther nut jobs didn't encourage their followers/listeners to go harass the families of the victims and prove it was fake. Nobody watched a jet fuel doesn't melt steel video and then went to dig up a grave. Nobody watched a Bush knew video then stalked and harassed a fireman's widow to prove that she really never had a husband and was a paid actor. That worthless piece of garbage encouraged his listeners to seek out and confront parents of murdered elementary school kids and made money off it. He's lucky it was only civil penalties.

It is similar. I know thats hard to admit.

I'm sure there are nut jobs who "investigated" 9/11 regarding "what really happened".

Reporters confront people all the time after horrible tragedies. And their organizations make money off of it.

Again, 2 things can be true at once.

1. Alex Jones sucks
2. He shouldn't have to pay $1.5 billion

Cute. Like always you stray from your argument with some vague and dumb.
I didnt stray from my argument just because I posted a Calvin and Hobbes strip that is on point for where this thread has gone.

To get back to what BTO was ignorantly chastising me for...
Once again- unprotected defamation is real. The first word in that phrase means it is not protected by a 1A claim. Alex Jones chose to not even try to defend himself in court- he straight up just didnt submit required documents and lost. He gave up the opportunity to even claim 1A protected him.
BTO claimed my comment that more people who knowingly spread dangerous lies and conspiracy theories that hurt others means I am anti-1A.
That is incorrect because I support the concept of 1A and firmly believe it needs to be respected.
What Alex Jones was not a 1A issue. 1A has limits and unprotected defamation is one such limit.

Once again, your original reply implied that Jones was just one small part of a much bigger problem and that conspiracy theorists need to have their lives ruined and deplatformed. What we have learned over the last few years are the things that have been labeled disinformation or conspiracy theories by the Old Media wind up being proven to be 100% correct. For example, if not for New Media, we would have never learned of the worst environmental disaster since the passage of the Clean Air Act in East Palestine, OH since legacy media intentionally chose to ignore it.

There is no possible way for one person or entity to decide what is or not disinformation and what is fact. Censorship causes disinformation to flourish. I am simply trying to figure out what platform and people you think need to be deplatformed since you imply it is much, much bigger than just Alex Jones. It is almost like you are intentionally trying to deflect and being noncommittal, which is totally unlike you.**

- I did not imply conspiracy theorists need to have their lives ruined. I said that dangerous conspiracy theorists need to be reduced.

There is a significant difference. The difference is that one is protected by 1A and the other isn't.

There is no possible way for one person or entity to decide what is or not disinformation and what is fact. Censorship causes disinformation to flourish. There is no specific platform that I think needs to go.
Dangerous misinformation and lies that spread on X, Facebook, cable news, podcasts, and elsewhere are what I am referring to. The issue is not specific to the Left or the Right and I want dangerous misinformation and lies to stop regardless of what 'side' the info is supporting.
As for your claim that no one person or entity can decide what is or isn't disinformation, well thars simply incorrect and a court showed your claim is incorrect when it 17ing decimated that POS Jones. A person or entity can absolutely decide what is or isn't disinformation when there is documentation that the person spreading dangerous lies knows they are lies.

And once more- 1A is not absolute.

Kind of petty from a group whose children were all to recently mass murdered in a school setting. By no means am I urging sympathy just really stating my opinion.

If you read the interviews their only concern was shutting down infowars and making sure it ended up in the hands of someone who wouldn’t continue in anyway down the road Alex jones had been on.

Also, if I was those parents petty wouldn’t be near strong enough of a word for how I would be.

Alex Jones is an awful human being and I don't care if there are other awful human beings out there. $1.5 billion isn't that much for what he did and caused. That Covington Catholic kid sued CNN for defamation likely got more than each of these families who lost a child will receive and who also got harassed by his truly stupid, gullible and moronic supporters dumb enough to fall for retarded conspiracy theories and outright lies.
