Apparently Jada’s bald look is because of a medical issue. Not sure if Chris Rock knew that. If he did, he deserved to get smacked. If not, the fresh prince was way out of line.

Rock joked on Jada in the 2016 Oscars as well. He said “Jada saying she turned down the Oscars invite is like me saying I turned down an invite into Rhiannas panties”. So there’s a history there.

Can you cross lines and shield behind "I'm a comedian!"?
Context is always important. That was a grey area. Comedians can't be *** holes wherever they please and hide behind a comedian defense. It's not like that was a Will Smith or Jada roast. It was the Oscars. There's a line.
I'll tell what will happen. Rock will say he crossed a line and shouldn't have made fun of Jada's medical condition in that scenario. Smith will say he shouldn't have open hand slapped him on TV. They'll move on and that will be that.

This is not a gray area. Chris Rock wasn't threatening anyone or inciting violence. He made a joke. You might not like the joke. You might find it offensive. That doesn't present a gray area of whether or not you can smack someone on national TV. Assault is never justified because you find a joke offensive.
This is the problem with the idea that "offensive words are violence". It leads to actual violence.

I’ll admit that in general, I agree and that Smith was probably wrong. But let’s dream up a scenario here. Let’s say that Quincy Wagstaff’s wife was going through chemo (I would never wish that on you or anyone you know, btw). Now let’s say you’re at a show and the comedian points out your wife and makes the same exact joke that Chris Rock made. Know what I mean?

But if I insulted your wife in front of your face, I wouldn't blame you for popping me. Pretty natural reaction unless I was putting on show where you were expecting to get tooled on. I just don't understand why comedians get the expectation for being able to hide behind that label when others couldn't. I'm not taking about at their shows. You show up...you should expect the worst. Part of the experience. Do you think the Smiths showed up tonight expecting to get tooled on? Probably not. Let’s dream up a scenario where a woman is trying to stab another woman and take her life and a police officer stops the stabber.
Going to have a hard time convincing me that wasn’t staged for several reasons.
