Kylee Edwards, Ella Wesalowski, and Josey Marron hit the softball portal. Two of those are brutal losses.
WHY ?Kylee Edwards, Ella Wesalowski, and Josey Marron hit the softball portal. Two of those are brutal losses.
Worst day of my lifeKylee Edwards, Ella Wesalowski, and Josey Marron hit the softball portal. Two of those are brutal losses.
You are so wrong on Edwards...other than that one thing...she cost us some games with her piss poor fielding and throwing choices.I dunno about brutal losses.
Wesolowski was a good catcher and had some clutch hits down the stretch, but out of our regular starters, she had one of the lowest batting averages on the team.
Marron never really recaptured what she had her freshman year. I feel like the writing was on the wall for her. There were so many times this season that she would walk the bases full and Chaffin or Everett would have to come in to clean up her mess.
Edwards is probably the biggest loss, but I don’t think she makes or breaks the team. She was a really good shortstop, even if she had her share of errors. She was a good contact hitter, but she didn’t have the same impact as Sacco or Barbary or Stiles. Her аss was a work of art though.
Still, I’m willing to see who the staff brings in before I start to worry.
Honestly, we need pitchers more than we need anything else.
She did, but she saved some runs too with some great plays. Like I said, she’s not going to make or break the team. I thought she was a good player, but I think there’s probably an equal or better player out there that we can bring in.You are so wrong on Edwards...other than that one thing...she cost us some games with her piss poor fielding and throwing choices.
Wes was hurt but still one of the best defensive catchers in the country, Marron isn't a P4 pitcher, Edwards is good. Two big losses there.I dunno about brutal losses.

Not just "a" pitcher, we need a minimum of two right now. The school isn't supporting softball, so don't be surprised when the program is back where it used to be soon. It's just where we are now.Wesalowski is a huge loss. Played injured most of the year. Hit over .300 as a true freshman in 2024 and is an incredible defensive catcher. She was the clear starter at catcher over Jessie Blaine who was really good too.
Edwards is definitely a power 4 starter.
It’s a lot to replace when already losing Sacco and Blaine. And desperately in need of a pitcher.
Guess not. Last I checked, they were allegedly pretty close to hosting, but I guess that was all hogwash because they weren’t anywhere near the cut line. They got sent to the #12 seed (Texas Tech), making them theoretically the 5th best 2-seed if using an S-curve. Also finished ahead of Alabama and LSU in the final standings, but both of them got host sites over MSU.I take it softball did not advance?
They did not. Made it to the regional final, but couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities they had. Chaffin threw 3 straight days and her defense didn’t help her out.I take it softball did not advance?
We absolutely handed the game to Texas Tech, that was tough to watch. They did not. Made it to the regional final, but couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities they had. Chaffin threw 3 straight days and her defense didn’t help her out.
Yeah, but that’s not how seeding works in the NCAA tournament because they won’t put multiple teams from the same conference in the same regional.Guess not. Softball went into the last weekend of the SEC with an outside shot. They got 2 out of 3 from Ole Miss than lost the opener of the SEC Tournament. They got a winnable draw in the regional (We had beaten Texas Tech in the regular season) but they did what they normally do and went 2-2.Guess not. Also, Ole Miss got sent out to Arizona’s regional as a 3-seed…and they won it because of course they did.
Basic money, very minimal- The SEC schools are just doing more than us as usual. It's why I'm done even fooling with it all anymore.Define not supporting
I'm willing to bet when the numbers come out that the revenue for mississippi state compared year over year doesn't change that much from previous ADs to Selmon. What change is there will have a lot more to do with our football program sucking than it does with Selmon. And selmon didn't hire moorehead or kill leach or promote arnett.Basic money, very minimal- The SEC schools are just doing more than us as usual. It's why I'm done even fooling with it all anymore.
And it's just the way it here. OM just built a new softball stadium and they don't seem to have a problem better funding athletics. We've failed to address our revenue issues and we 17d up our football season tickets to the point we're selling discounted tickets to recent grads now. We're an athletics cluster 17 as for as revenue goes. Selmon and his crew really 17d up the season ticket stuff and they've lost my piddling funds now.
I’m aware of that. But 3 of the 4 teams ranked lower than Texas Tech were not SEC teams. We couldn’t go to #15 Alabama, but could have gone to #13, #14, or #16.Yeah, but that’s not how seeding works in the NCAA tournament because they won’t put multiple teams from the same conference in the same regional.
That’s not the school’s issue. We just finished middle of the pack in the toughest league in America, on a shoestring budget. It seems that “the school” is doing all it can to put a competitive product on the field, as far as hiring good coaches and holding them accountable, and providing facilities and resources to attract players that have to come in almost exclusively from out of state, since MS high school level softball talent is a joke. I’m not sure what else you want the university itself or Selmon to do.Basic money, very minimal- The SEC schools are just doing more than us as usual. It's why I'm done even fooling with it all anymore.

Selmon shouldn't have 17 up the season ticket situation if he wanted asses in the seats. I was set to renew and so were others and the rug got pulled out from under us. I like Selmon, but he 17d up there. Now he's discounting tickets and begging people to show up.I'm willing to bet when the numbers come out that the revenue for mississippi state compared year over year doesn't change that much from previous ADs to Selmon. Also, selmon is doing a great job at fundraising.
Our softball stadium isn't old and we darn sure shouldn't be sinking tons of money into softball at the moment.
Take soccer and compare it to softball? All time fan support and thats related to 2 things.
1. being good.
2. james armstrong and nick zimmerman hustled their a$$es off going to frats and sororities, etc trying to get fans to come. Maybe softball should try that?
So you are saying we put straight fire on the field? I would watch then.We need to forget about wins and losses and go all in recruiting girls who want to promote themselves on social media. Make a photography studio. Hire a team to help them shoot and edit content, etc. Offer them all the tools needed to make all their Instagram and TikTok posts as easy as possible. Our university will get a lot more publicity from that than from winning softball games. Also probably cheaper than offering individual players NIL money.
Well don't get your hopes up for soccer anymore.I'm willing to bet when the numbers come out that the revenue for mississippi state compared year over year doesn't change that much from previous ADs to Selmon. What are you even talking about? You somehow weren’t allowed to renew your tickets?Selmon shouldn't have 17 up the season ticket situation if he wanted asses in the seats. We lost a LOT of good players from last year (Hodge is starting in NWSL, Aitana is starting for a good team in Portugal 1st division, and 3 others playing professional soccer), and of course lost the head coach. But we've got a pretty good group returning, and I think made a huge hire by promoting Zimmerman to head coach (he could have gone to NC State). We won't match last year, but I think we'll still be pretty good. Why is that?
I’m actually anxious for this reply because if “supporting” means offering these girls 6-figure or god forbid 7-figure NIL deals, well… someone else needs to be the one to throw that cash down the paper shredderDefine not supporting
I agree with pretty much everything you typed, but i don't think the person i replied to agrees with you or me.We lost a LOT of good players from last year (Hodge is starting in NWSL, Aitana is starting for a good team in Portugal 1st division, and 3 others playing professional soccer), and of course lost the head coach.
