If hiring that coach is because they are a minority then, yes, that is discrimination. I prefer to hire and promote on merit.
I believe our coaches were hired on merit alone. I simply think it's great that we have two of the best and they happen to be minorities. Ya'll can argue about Discrimination. Not interested in that conversation.

I guess you believe what is going on is a fluke. I think Coach Paris is on the Big Ten radar for teams that want to change direction and if South Carolina waits he will be gone.
I’m saying it’s in both party’s best interest to waist until the season is over. If he took a contract now, he might end up getting underpaid.

You have seen enough of my post that you should know I'm poking fun of the naysayers. I'm the biggest Paris fan on this board.

Hearing about the UGA loss gets old, right?

At the end of the season South Carolina will see a ship that will sail away.

I don't think you need to do it now but you need to make it clear to Paris and his agent that he is our man, and we plan to pay him when the season is over.
Right.

Paris is a smart man. He knows he’s getting a raise. Folks can knock Tanner all they want. He hired Paris and he’s not gonna cheap out now.

Yeah, for what ever reason when I responded to 18 it also including your post also. I understood your sarcasms and appreciate your attendance at the Colonial Life Arena supporting the program.

If this success continues til the end of the season (hopefully!) we should pay coach Paris what he’s worth, and pay to keep him here and out of the big ten.

I would like the payment agreements for coaches to be heavily weighted with money for end of the season accomplishments (SEC, SECT, NCAA championship, etc.)

I think at end of season will be much too slate.
Midseason extensions aren’t that common. It’s not an insult to Paris to wait. As I said above, I’m sure he also wants to wait. No doubt, with the current trajectory, his agent is likely betting on Paris and wants it wait til the end of the season to use his whole body of work in negotiations.

Be honest, when South Carolina scafe by Wofford, what do you think about what would happen this season?

If there is other interest with Big Ten teams or Norte Dame that want Coach Paris they are talking to agent right now. End of season will be too slate for South Carolina.

Lamont Paris stock will be hot when the opening bell rings tomorrow.
Hopefully we are holding all the long-term options with him.

People making these reactionary mid-season extension demands are the same people who will be incessantly peeing themselves when they hit senior citizenship.

I say pay him now. Other SEC teams that have played at Tennessee in Knoxville this season has suffered 19 points or more defeats. South Carolina held Tennessee less than 60 points. In eight days South Carolina has taken down number five and six ranked teams.

You are not convinced this is the guy.
I feel GREAT about Paris right now. But I’ve been around a long time. I hope we pay him well and pay him fairly at the end of the season and that he chooses to stay.

I don’t see what’s offensive about getting one, good full season in the books before giving an extension.

I seriously doubt even Paris expects a mid-season extension.

Okay. I do apologize if I am wrong, but I thought last season you said if South Carolina lose you wanted them to lose big. If you said that, why would you want Coach Paris to stay at South Carolina. If you did not make that statement then I do apologize.

If he gets us to the tourney, it will be hard to keep him, meaning we’ll have to pay up.

I would not jump the gun until we actually make something though.
Was thinking this earlier. CLP is doing a great job. Obviously everyone is happy, but it would be a very Tanner thing to do to give a guy a huge extension too early, only for him to fall flat on his face in 2-3 years and we have a huge buyout. Let’s be patient. Let’s be smart about it.

I don’t recall the context of the statement, but I don’t see the connection between that and me liking what Paris is doing now.

Honestly, it would be the most Gamecock thing ever to give him a big extension now and then we end up losing out the remainder of the season or something stupid.

I don't disagree with u which is why I don't understand the importance of bringing up the minority aspect at all.

I’ve watched a lot of SEC bball this year. I don’t see anyone head and shoulders better than us. Don’t see anyone better than us. If he keeps this up, it wouldn’t be right to penalize him for past failures of others. He’s not Horn, Odom, or Martin. He’s Lamont Fn Paris baby!!

A little over half a season does not make a trend. I'd want to see a trend (min of 2 successful seasons) before committing to a big extension.

I think you are spot on, 18. My last post last night, just above, was: "I'm sure he (Tanner) will be fair and smart". I believe Ray realizes, like most of us do, that we have very well may have lucked out in finding a basketball coach who can take this program to heights we have never known. And he is one year younger than Frank McGuire was when we hired him. Our basketball program could be in great hands for the next 20 years. At the same time, I'm sure that Tanner realizes he overreacted in what he gave Muschamp after his 2nd season here. And dare I say that Tanner may right now feel he may have overreacted in what he gave Shane Beamer after his 2nd season here. I believe Ray will try to hit the "sweet spot" or what you called the "middle ground".
He deserves a raise. He doesn’t deserve a giant buyout. Both can be true.

He’s getting paid dead last in the league. I think he deserves to be in the middle…with a discounted buyout.

We don't know what that means yet, not for certain. Give him a raise and extend him two years (in line with time served, to keep his deal at its original length) - but do it after the season.

We were very close to those heights, but foolishly let it slip away almost 53 years ago.

But yes, let the season play out, and Tanner will have his end-of-season review with LP (as he does with all head coaches of varsity sports USC sponsors) and will adjust the contract as needed in a prudent manner.
