We never learn...We gave Odom a increased buyout then fired him. After one successful year, we gave horn a big buyout then fired him. We gave Frank Martin a huge buyout after 1 great year then we have to keep him for 2 extra years then pay a huge buyout.
Coach Paris has already proven his value. Pay him now before Ohio State or Wisconsin takes him away.

Guys, lets not panic. You all know I've been on the Paris bandwagon from the start. Lamont sees what Dawn has accomplished here and, thus, knows what the potential is here with the mens basketball program. When it's all said and done, I feel certain that Tanner is going to make sure that Paris is happy to be here.

We also can't assume LP is Dave Odom or Frank Martin. This will be the second year in a row he has outperformed his salary rank. Guys typically won't stick around in that scenario.

Well, for one, Odom and Martin had much longer track records of success in their coaching career than Paris does. So, there is the aspect paying based on what they had previously accomplished along with their current accomplishments, projecting they will replicate the success.

Paris doesn't have that long of a track record. We can't be foolish and give him a Mel Tucker deal after his first good season here. If we make the NCAAT, we'll justifiably be forced to give him a raise. Just have to make sure it's reasonable and commensurate with results.

Here's a question: What if we make the NIT? I guess that's technically a sign of progress, even though nobody takes the NIT seriously.

I don't think anyone is calling for a Mel Tucker deal. But I think it's perfectly reasonable to get him to the middle of the SEC. Which would be in the $3-3.5M range.

Whooaa Trigger..... There are still a lot of games left. If he keeps this up, RT will definitely give him a raise. I just hope he doesn't give him a MB (Muschamp Buyout)

i read that LP is getting 2.3 million $ per year. Lowest in SEC. I would be for raising him to $3m for next year, or even more. Give his assistants raises too.

You have to pay the market. Market is obviously higher for mens basketball vs women. Simple as that. Can't compare the two salaries. That said, I'm not opposed to a bump for Staley to keep her in front of Paris.

Sure. Just humorous to me that a coach with 2 NCAAT to his credit (giving LP credit for making this year's NCAAT) would make more than a coach with 2 national titles, 5 FF appearances, 7x SEC tournament and regulars season titles and 3x coach of the year.

Let’s give him a raise because “he’s not the worst coach in the conference.”

Woo-hoo!!
He's getting paid the lowest in the conference. That's the point. He's exceeding that.

If you were in sales, and knew you had the lowest commission % in the company, but was consistently outperforming others ahead of you, you wouldn't put up with that for too long. Unless you're a moron.

Reminds me of when Darin Horn was 2-0 vs Kentucky.

We can keep the door open and the salary low (at a mighty “low” $2.3M) until he leads a team that beats clemson regularly, let alone wins NCAA tournament games.

We are 16-3. Will we make the NCAA Tournament? I like our chances. If that happens, Paris will be the first coach to lead South Carolina to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in just 2 years. Considering the shambles that Martin left the program, making the NCAA Tournament in 2 years will be outstanding. Consequently, that will result in a VERY big pay raise for Paris, regardless that some favor it or not. So, sit back and enjoy this basketball team and season.

I think he's done an excellent job of putting together some talented ''irrelevants'' and has coached them up to play as a team and not individuals. They are exciting to watch. What's even more exciting is the recruits he has already committed as well as other top talent interested in our program. Having a good year like this gives us a better chance of holding on to the ones we have and adding some more to the list.

He’s not consistently outperforming others…we’ve had a cream puff out-of-conference schedule and he upset UK. Wait until the end of the season to discuss his contract!

Try re-reading my post. I said "we’ve had a cream puff out-of-conference schedule..."

You cited his last three upset wins -- uh, they were against conference opponents.

I didn't dispute anything that you said. I simply stated we have had three consecutive upset wins.

Your're a cream puff and sensitive? Not a great combo.

Wow, more name calling! By the way, it's "you're."
.

I'm simply taking up for our basketball program and the schools being called cream puffs (VirginiaTech, Grand Canyon etc). Me thinks you started the started the name calling.

Still too soon to jump to conclusions. Anyway, Paris probably has a clause in his present contract that will financially reward him if the Cocks make the NCAA tournament. (I've always thought that to be the lowest of bars!)

No name calling here. Our OOC schedule was undeniably full of cream puffs.

Excuse me, semantics. "Minority" and "well spoke" ones to boot.
Again, why should that matter?
You may not agree but I think it's awesome that we have two minority coaches leading a sport dominated by minorities. There are not many well spoken coaches out there regardless of sex or race but we have two of them.

Go ask the the government and the NFL why it matters? They certainly believe it matters or they wouldn't have policies / penalties in place for overlooking minorities.

Ok so you approve of job selection based on race. Aka discrimination
