So, it isn’t a legitimate playoff with the higher seeded team getting the home game? I’d love to say I’m shocked, but I’m not.

I think many people are going to be shocked at what a cluster**** this playoff is going to look like and be shocked at the screw job some teams will be getting and the huge advantages other teams will be receiving.

Those discussions will begin with "ESPN/$EC" ...

Cool. Even less reason to care.
Just enough reason to care to take the time to post that you don't care.

So, wasn't one of the reasons for this kind of play off is that the Southern teams have advantages with weather since Bowl games are played in the south? Or am I misremembering this?

This is Rich Clark:
Rich Clark - Executive Director - Staff Directory - College Football Playoff

Decide for yourself how much of your hair you want to set on fire regarding anything he said, which, in all likelihood, has been taken completely out of context by some sports site looking to generate clicks/lunacy (Some of them doing so, I suppose, on purpose - ie, they know better. Many, probably, because they are of the quality of "journalist" that doesn't know better). Essentially, he (Clark) oversees a bunch of operational admins and clerks. (You can pull down that personnel roster from the link).
Basically, a bunch of operational clerks. The folks necessary to deal with all that "stuff".

If one actually listens to what Clark said, as opposed to the sports media nitwittery (a novel idea, I know) what he said is NOT what is being pandered to by the sports loonies. He was addressing - as one would expect for someone in his position - operational concerns.

The people who will actually select, seed and place teams is this group (not Rich Clark):
2024-25 Selection Committee Roster - College Football Playoff
(That group may make you feel better - or worse - depending on your perspective. I expect Penn Staters will love that the leader of that group is the Michigan AD :) - if PSU is left out, or doesn't get the highest seed some may think they deserve, imagine the wonderful reviews this committee will receive.)

That said, if one wanted to devise a "system" for college football post-season that was a breeding ground for sports-talk generated lunacy, one could hardly do any better than this 12 team "playoff" format. (If you thought it was bad with the "final four" set up we've had for the last several years, you ain't seen nothing yet)

Sounds like the sec doesn’t want to play in the north in December.
Also we seat 110k and have Michigan and osu and auburn etc here. So why now would this be a problem. Oh wait. Sec doesn’t want to play in the cold weather.

The NCAA is a disaster. They’re going to play playoff games with warm weather teams always getting to host? It’s amazing.

That is not - at all - what was said.

Collin Wilson on X: "New @CFBPlayoff Executive Director Rich Clark on the Selection Committee picking the first round home teams... "Weather, Hotel availability, Ticket Sales.."" / X

Would take 70 seconds to watch the conversation, and know that.

And yet the long string of X responses was overwhelmingly loonies (to no one's surprise). Tyler Vesely (no idea who that guy is) was one of the few posters I saw who actually took 2 seconds to "understand", and his (her) post is one of the few that is not loony (and is correct)

The "get off my lawn," yelling at clouds oldenheimers ...

Playoffs are announced, and then expanded:

"Expanding playoffs and making the bowls less relevant or even eliminating them entirely?!?! Blasphemy! You're ruining what's special about college football! Why, back in my day we walked uphill both ways to a warm weather destination site to watch a postseason football game, and made a hotel-based vacation out of it! Bowls used to mean something ... now they mean nothing! This ruins everything!"

It's announced playoffs may be played in warm weather destination sites:

"You're ruining the playoffs! Now we have to play in a warm weather site with hotel availability? Who wants THAT?!? You're destroying the college postseason! These playoffs mean something and not having them at the higher seed's home site isn't fair! I just won a billion dollars in the lottery? Oh no! Think of all the taxes I'll owe! This is such a hassle!"

It turns out that they ARE going to allow higher-seeded teams to host, and they were just explaining the challenges host teams may have to deal with:

"Why won't they have them at warm weather destination sites? Stupid media lying again and made me complain about the wrong thing! College football is ruined! We're going to get screwed somehow! Stupid NIL! Great, now a genie granted me immortality and perfect health! What am I going to do with all that time?!? Such a pain in the butt!"
