I knew this because we dropped our daughter off for semester 2 yesterday and campus is bustling. Many early enrollees are posting from class but I found this one particularly entertaining.

Also, this is awesome for students as well. The HUB will be packed.

They don't cover the definition of front row until the second class

You've been away from school for a while: how dare professor/teachers teach (on any day).
It used to be a thing, syllabus day. Not no more, I think.

I never had syllabus day. Iā€™d go full blast from the first moment. ā€œYou can read. Read your syllabus; itā€™s your contract with me and you better know it. Now, letā€™s prove the Pythagorean Theorem.ā€ It was a small school I taught at and Iā€™d see the majors for four, five classes. They learned to come prepared. My students, to see them grow over their four years, that was a privilege. Teaching 400-level mathematics in ASL, that was a privilege too.

Don't know if you've read the statements from Penn State Forward advocating the candidacies of the three they are backing for BoT. Nowhere is improving the quality of education mentioned. Without looking, I can't recall that education was mentioned at all.

Not an isolated case. Two or three weeks ago, the administration of the school district in which my wife teaches circulated a list of parent desires. At the top: dummy down the content and amount of work and hand out more As. There go the property values.

I am assuming thatā€™s the forum. Same structure I remember, but looks much better.
I'll have to check it out next time I'm there. We stopped in about 5 years ago during Blue White and it was literally still the same as when you and I were there. Same carpet, same chairs and same smell.

Really, what are those parents thinking, or probably not?

Syllabus day was also known as the only day I'd show up for that class, other than for quizzes, exams or turning in projects/papers, unless it was a 400-level class in my major or a graduate class. It was rough rolling out of bed at noon to go get that syllabus, but sacrifices had to be made.

I spend about 15 minutes on the syllabus and then try to do a fun activity (usually something interactive) for the remainder of the first class.

That Rose Bowl T-Shirt looks like an advertising sign. Not interested in one of those.

The shirts are weird looking. The Rose Bowl Champs hat the team was wearing on the field, however, is really cool. My 16-year-old daughter surprised me with one today. Love it! And love her more for thinking about her old man and spending her own money on me!!

I still remember the first day of Chem 039, Organic Chemistry II. A Monday in January 1990 in The Forum. Prof. Ken Feldman. He wasted no time drawing reaction mechanism after reaction mechanism, all the while juggling multiple pieces of colored chalk to highlight various atoms and electron flow. He even used both hands at the same time writing some of the mechanisms. It was a blur. After this went on for 45 minutes, he closed the class with, ā€œWe start for real on Wednesday.ā€

Ah I remember my first day. The horse drawn covered wagon ride over the mountain. Seeing indoor plumbing for the first time. The odd feeling of not having to build a campfire after shooting dinner. Girls not wearing flour sack dresses. Fancy city boys with shoes.

I remember I was taking some science class and sat in a class and the professor immediately started writing some high level math science stuff and I was like wtf did I do. Then the prof handed out the syllabus and turns out I was in the wrong class. Went next door and my class had already let out for the day! So I went to cafe 210!! šŸ˜Ž
