PSU was hampered by the lack of a deep threat this year. I definitely think one player can make a difference in close games.

PSU has played a lot of close games vs OSU but almost always they've come up short. It might have been a player like Fields, Bosa, or this year Tuimoloau. So yes, I have no doubt that just one key player could have made a difference in those games.

With the exception of TCU, this is a poll that captures a lot of the blue bloods of the game. Just interesting - that is all.
Absolutely but there are also several blue bloods missing like Oklahoma, Clemson, LSU, Notre Dame, and USC. But there's no doubt that it's a select group.

Has Clemson officially fallen off of the highest tier of current cfb powers? They seem to be relatively pedestrian since the nice run they had with Watson/Lawrence. Not saying they’re still not excellent, but should they be considered perennial preseason NC contenders at this point?

What a great day for PSU yesterday. They won big in a big game. And they did it by getting better as the game wore on. Franklin got a few monkeys off his back defeating a top-ten team, winning the Rose Bowl, and securing a top-ten finish after two subpar seasons. Of course, Clifford got a huge monkey off his back and secured his legacy as one of PSU’s top QBs when all is said and done. He played great.

Then there were the tributes to Franco -- the jerseys and helmet stickers. A show of class in remembering a class act. One of ours.

Perhaps lost in all the hoopla were Franklin’s comments in the post-game interview on the field. Our kids succeed on and off the field. “That’s how we do it at Penn State.”

And the Blue Band looked great.

Just an awesome day all around.

Can't agree more with your assessment about the lack of a deep threat. If Franklin could you persuaded Marvin Harrison, Jr. to come to PSU from St. Joe's Prep, THAT would have made a difference but Julian Fleming? Meh.

However, we did have multiple tight ends who could catch if they were thrown the ball. Instead of a 60-yard pass play, maybe we accept 4 15-yard catches by the TE group.

Truth be told, that one player alone probably changes the outcome of this year's game. Maybe. JTT did a # on us.

They showed video of CJF leading the players out of a tunnel (perhaps getting off the team bus?), with everyone wearing a No. 34 jersey. That was awesome.

Also, with about three minutes left in the game and the outcome already secure, the Lions took over on offense and I was thinking "They gotta send Allar in at this point." But they didn't and I was at first disappointed. But then they pulled Clifford after the first play, giving him a chance to take a chance on a deep pass to his kid brother, and (more importantly) the opportunity to take a final bow in front of a packed Rose Bowl (and national TV) audience, and also giving Allar a chance to play in the Rose Bowl.. That was a fabulous moment. Props to CJF for that.

The Blue Band looked and sounded great. I gotta give some props to Utah's band as well. They did a fabulous rendition of the National Anthem. Unfortunately for Utes fans, that was the high point for Utah yesterday..

Wasn't sure where to put this, so I'll put it here. I don't want to hear any excuses from the outside in regards to PSU being lucky that Rising got hurt.

1. PSU never trailed in the game.
2. PSU made the halftime adjustment and had shut Rising down prior to his exit. His stat line reads 8/21 for 95 yards. He was 2/11 on his last 11 passes. He averaged 4.5 ypa.

PSU was better than Utah....period!

In PSU's game against Florida St. 2006 Orange Bowl , Tony Hunt and Poz went down being replaced by Austin Scott and Sean Lee both Freshman at the time.

Gator Bowl Hackenberg gets hurt. Trace replaced him.

We won one and lost one due to game injuries, there are other games , it shouldn't be the focal point . It's roster development and experience. To be honest this wasn't our starting line either, which needed some patch work.

And we won, and I hate saying it, on Franklin approved 'big plays'.
