Went down the rabbit hole of looking at the all time records and landed on some interesting tidbits.

We’ve beat clemson 43 times. Of those 43 seasons that we’ve won the palmetto bowl, only 7 times have we had a losing season, 3 times we had an even record for the season.

It’s rare that we beat clemson and also have a losing season. Not really much more to interpret out of the data. Just thought it was interesting.

I'd be interested in knowing Clemson's record in those 43 seasons. How many times have we beaten good Clemson teams?

Of the 43 seasons, clemson had
16 winning seasons
22 losing seasons
5 with an even record.

But out of the last 14 victories over clemson, they had a losing season only 3 of those times, and a winning season 11 times.

and of course, winning or losing season doesn’t always tell the full story. There’s a decent difference between 7-6 or 11-2 even though those are both winning seasons.

All that said, for the past 45 years, most of our rivalry wins have been against pretty good clemson teams. 2011-2013 always get me because they were good, but Carolina was still so much better during that magic run. Can’t wait to have those days again. I still believe!

Since our ''good seasons'' are very limited, that makes sense.

Those are interesting states. It confirms what I've always thought when announcers say stuff like "you can throw out the record books when it comes to this rivalry." Upsets don't happen very often in our Clemson rivalry. Most of the time, when we are better than them, we win. Most of the time, when they are better than us, they win. There are exceptions, but the results are never all that wild.

That’s it in a nutshell. The other trends I see most often is when we’re both good, we win, and when we’re both bad, they win.

2022 is really the only year I can think of that was out of the ordinary. Carolina went in as a sleeper and upset clemson knocking them out of the playoff. I know we had just beat Tennessee the week before, but we were still a surprise upset for game 12.
