I’m sorry, but Rattler is damaged goods. Not sure why he’s regressed, but he’s not a good QB. And Stogner! He reminds me of frozen tree sap.

I had high hopes for Rattler, and I really don't know how much of it is on him. I mean, everyone admits this is an offense that he's not naturally suited for (which begs the question of why we brought him in to run it). Even so, this offense would suck no matter who was playing QB.

I think there a lot of things we could be doing to be getting more out of his skill set.

That said, he's obviously mediocre at best as a college QB.

The media was laying it on him. I watched a portion and he kept repeating the same answer to dance around the questions. I didn’t watch the entire video but it sounds like Rattler went of script a little bit and made the coaches look bad.
From what I see in the games and from what I heard in the post game interview- it sounds like the offense needs more time in the 200m dollar practice facility rehearsing plays.

Why not try a back up and let Rattler sit and regroup?

Or maybe we need to simply the offense and let players play more naturally instead of having to think in complex ways to move in the offense. Just wondering.

Doty should have been in there after the first series of the second half. We had just squandered the reason teams that win the toss defer to the second half but the game was still winnable. Everybody needed a break: Rattler, the other players, the fans, the coaches, everybody - just a break to try and shake things up a little bit.

Obviously, it's Rattler all the way - has to be a transfer portal promise or Doty would have played.

I would agree with this. That initial series of the third quarter was horrible in terms of play call, execution, personnel. Missouri killed us on 3rd down with the read option. We could have returned the favor for a series or two to mix things up.

This was Rattler's full comment:

"I don’t feel like we had a good idea of knowing what to do. I’d say that’s what we need to get better at is just preparing and knowing what to do.”

I think this was probably an accidental moment of truth from Rattler. Doubt that he was intending to throw Satterfield under the bus.

Agreed.

The tweets from Bell's family and this are kind of concerning together.

Not a good look.

All the more interesting considering that Satterfield, earlier this week, said "if it was up to me, I'd find a way to get him the ball a thousand times a game."

I like how he said "if it was up to me." I mean, it kind of is, isn't it?

Wednesday: "I'd find a way to get him the ball a thousand times."
Saturday: zero targets

You guys know Beamer knows his OC has become a ball and chain dead weight to drag around. Since he won't cut the chain link now is a real
problem. Assign play calling to someone else and roll with it. Start back channeling with possible replacements now. Handle the employment separation (publicly amicable of course) as soon as the season ends.

Since they’re friends, you’d think Satterfield might do him a favor and just step aside to

The play that bothered me the most from the entire pathetic showing was after we came back on the field after Missouri went on a 15 play extended drive and got a delay of game penalty. That is just utter incompetence. We had 20 minutes to decide what the first play of the next drive was going to be. And we were at home. There is no excuse for that.

That would be a decent way for Marcus to demonstrate friendship. I have this feeling it won't happen because Shane wants to keep his friend
employed and sparing him an embarrassing firing or demotion during the season. Just a thought.

Oh, yeah, I wouldn't expect anything midseason. But, I would think at the end of the season, Marcus would realize "Hey, this just obviously isn't working. I don't want to be a burden to my friend."

I shut the game off at 17-0. I've seen enough of our games over the years to tell when we don't have it, and we didn't have it on Saturday. So, I didn't see anything that happened after that. However, from all the articles I've read, it sounds like Spencer had a heck of a night in the trenches.

I keep reading things saying he was "constantly swarmed" or "under duress all night" or "relentlessly pressured."

Sounds like our OL had a game for a the ages, in a bad way.

Rattler obviously hasn't performed up to the hype but I refuse to blame any QB that has 2 seconds to make a play before he is on the ground. Only a QB with amazing run abilities could survive this onslaught and consistently make big plays. The OL is awful and after running for your life, game after game, it is bound to have a mental effect, and it has, it's happened to all our recent QBs. Even on plays when there is no rush, you are still anticipating the rush, how can you not? Couple that with horrendous play calling that doesn't set up plays where Rattler can get rid of the ball quickly, and you arrive at where we are. I'm not saying Rattler is the greatest QB, but most teams don't have a really great QB, they have a QB that fits into the "system" the coaches set up; but ""running for your life every play"" is not a "system" and you shouldn't have to adapt to that. A Connor-Shaw-like QB is the only type that could excel under these circumstances and we don't have a Connor Shaw. I think Satt should be replaced immediately with an assistant, I've seen some mentioned here, then go after a good OC after the season. Beamer's career depends on it..

I think Rattler is probably an ok QB. Not great. Not awful. The problem is we have awful play calling and pretty bad OL play. If we had decent play calling and ok OL play, I think he'd probably be a solid upper half of the conference kind of QB, which would be good enough for us right now.

Some of his detractors have said "yeah, the OL has been bad, but even when he's had time he makes bad throws." Heck, I've probably said something similar. But, your point is a good one. When he's under duress as often as he is, it has to mess you up mentally. QBs have an internal clock that tells them when they need to scramble or get rid of the ball and being under pressure so often is sure to mess up that clock. No, no OL is going to provide perfection all of the time, so that's not what this is about. This is about the fact that's it's more often than not that Rattler is getting pressured.

I get what you guys are saying about Rattler not shouldering all the blame, but I can't help but think back to his OU days.

He had a great freshman season, enough to be a Heisman frontrunner, then tanked his sophomore year.

He had OL play, and an aggressive offense with supposedly good play calling, and he still declined.

What changed? Was more asked of him, and he has a mental ceiling? Something changed drastically, and it was before he ever got here.

I noticed the "if it was up to me" quote and wondered the same thing. Who is it up to? Was Satterfield implying someone else is saying don't play Bell this week? Maybe there's more to it. I don't pretend to have inside information. That statement by Satterfield was odd. Maybe he's overwhelmed by the situation and just saying whatever pops into his head.
