Greatest goal scorer in NHL history. Sad to see another Islanders legend from my youth pass. Sad day in what has been a horribly ****** season for Islanders fans.

RIP Mike Bossy.From the article:
”His death is another blow to the Islanders, who have now lost three members of the 1979-80 championship team that kicked off one of the sport’s greatest dynasties since January. Clark Gillies passed away on Jan. 21, Jean Potvin on March 15.”
Awful news. I was never an Islanders fan, but these guys were greats from my youth.![]()
Flyers got screwed by a bad call on the offsides.
Talking about the Duane Sutter goal I assume? Terrible missed call but sadly, about par for the course with NHL officials. It’s funny to still hear some people claim the Nystrom OT goal was offsides.RIP Mike Bossy.

Rough year to be an Islanders fan all the way around. From the article:

Assuming you were listing hall of famers there, you put Nystrom in there instead of Trottier.NY Islanders 1979-1982
Denis Potvin-Mike Bossy-Clark Gillies-Bobby Nystrom-Billy Smith.
Arguably the best dynasty team ever! Refined talent up front, bruising defense and impeccable team work.
God Bless you Mike Bossy, may you RIP!

Oilers won 5 over those 7 seasons. Isles won 19 consecutive playoff series from ‘80-‘84. Isles won 5 of 9 Stanley Cup finals games against those Oilers. Isles are the better dynasty in my (obviously biased) opinion. They were good; no doubt. As a Flyers fan, I really disliked the Islanders, as the two teams battled a great deal (including the SC Final in 1980) over the span of the Islanders dominant run.
I would not anoint the Islands the best dynasty team ever, even within the NHL. They won 4 straight Stanley Cups, and lost in the SC Final the following year. That's certainly impressive. I think the Oilers of the 80s were a better dynasty They won 6 SCs in 7 years, and appeared in the SC Finals 7 times in 8 years during that span. Before the Islands streak of 4 SCs, Les Habs won 4 straight SCs in the '70s.

He’s not called Mr. Islander for nothing! You are right(AGAIN!!).
But on a serious note, many fans from the Island love Bobby Nystrom and credit him for starting that unforgettable run.
He was also called Mr. April since he apparently had another gear he saved for the playoffs (when they used to be in April). He’s not called Mr. Islander for nothing!
4 career playoff overtime goals, including a pretty big one against Philly in 1980 (albeit, that was May).He was also called Mr. April since he apparently had another gear he saved for the playoffs (when they used to be in April).
Ken Morrow was a solid player and had long arms. At least that’s what Jiggs McDonald and Ed Westfall used to say.4 career playoff overtime goals, including a pretty big one against Philly in 1980 (albeit, that was May).
On a related note, Ken Morrow scored 17 regular season goals in 550 NHL games. In 127 layoff games, he scored 3 OT goals.
And had the slap shot of a 3-year old. Couldn’t break an egg with his shot but somehow it found the back of the net three times in OT. This of course is the greatest of them (for the sake of appreciating how bad NHL officiating is, watch Tonelli blatantly trip a Ranger with his hand to start the sequence of the goal):Ken Morrow was a solid player and had long arms. At least that’s what Jiggs McDonald and Ed Westfall used to say.
That's Jiggs and 18 to you.Ken Morrow was a solid player and had long arms. At least that’s what Jiggs McDonald and Ed Westfall used to say.
My favorite Ed Westfall line, about players who would repeatedly make the same mistakes: “He’s like the guy who liked to hit himself in the head with a hammer because it felt so good when he stopped.”That's Jiggs and 18 to you.
I loved watching them on WOR even though I hated the Islanders. Also loved Scooter and Bill White talking about what was on TV after the game or how Scooter was going to get home after the game.My favorite Ed Westfall line, about players who would repeatedly make the same mistakes: “He’s like the guy who liked to hit himself in the head with a hammer because it felt so good when he stopped.”
I was always a Reds fan but loved listening to Rizzuto and White. Very entertaining.I loved watching them on WOR even though I hated the Islanders. Also loved Scooter and Bill White talking about what was on TV after the game or how Scooter was going to get home after the game.
I loved him. He was definitely fun to watch.I was always a Reds fan but loved listening to Rizzuto and White. Very entertaining.
If you are familiar with WOR you must remember Lloyd Lindsey Young, the old weatherman. So nutty.
Also, the Yankees were on channel 11 (WPIX), not channel 9 (WOR) back in the day. The Mets were on channel 9.I was always a Reds fan but loved listening to Rizzuto and White. Very entertaining.

Correct. Kiner’s Corner. Always seemed like he was loaded. Also, the Yankees were on channel 11 (WPIX), not channel 9 (WOR) back in the day. The Mets were on channel 9.
Being from Pittsburgh I never saw WPIX until I came to Penn State but for some reason we always had WORAlso, the Yankees were on channel 11 (WPIX), not channel 9 (WOR) back in the day. The Mets were on channel 9.
That’s because Schaefer is the one beer to have when you're having more than one!Correct. Kiner’s Corner. Always seemed like he was loaded.
