Yes, you do have to wait on the big time recruits and many times it comes down to the last few days before signing day: for some, it is on signing day and that is the nature of the beast. The problem I have with Newton, not any of the other prima donnas is the fact that this is total BS. They give days for a presser and then it is changed. And changed again. And changed again. Then his dad calls recruiting services and gives statements concerning signing days and announcements, then abruptly changes it. He states that there will be gag orders, etc. This is total crap and even a POS like Pat Patterson thinks that this is BS. This is not "Big Time Recruiting": this is an indecisive attention ***** that alot of the posters on this board want running our offense. Sorry, I'm old school and just make you're damn mind up. Being old school, I'll go with the one that wants to be here( 4 star Tyler Russell) as oppsoed to the one looking for a meal ticket.

Guys, calm down. Everyone's getting bent out of shape over a rumor that was just made up. Jeffrey Lee has been wrong about Newton several times already, and the fact that he still thought he was announcing Thursday tells you how "in the loop" he is. I'm assuming he just had that text saved on his phone and sent it out Wednesday without even realizing Newton had pushed his announcement back. He knows nothing and is simply assuming he'll pick Auburn like all the other Auburn fans because they're Auburn and we're Mississippi State. Newton may not pick us, but I assure you Jeffrey Lee has no actual knowledge of what he'll do.

If the rumor is true, i won't waste much time checking in with sixpack nearly as much. I know it's an online message board, but what's the point if you continually get bogus messages like "it's a lock, he's in". Call me an idiot for ever believing anyone on hear, but that'rrs exactly the point. If the board has no credibility, then why waste the time reading?

Well rip out the old card and pay to have Gene Swindoll tell you sure things on his board like "Buckles will be a Bulldog" and "don't worry, Patterson will be catching passes from Russell"

Will that make you feel better? And you get the added bonus of anyone getting banned for badmouthing coaching staffs that are obvious to the entire world that is inept and can't do the job. Dare to guess how many folks got banned over there for badmouthing Croom?

And he's not going to be a problem with team chemistry. Why? Because he's going to have his hands on the ball every play- except for maybe a few Wildcat plays. He's not going to have to compete with Tyler Russell, Chris Relf, or anyone else if he comes to MSU. He will be named the starter- just like when the Saints signed Drew Brees from the Chargers, he didn't have to compete with whoever the back-up was.
1) If Newton is the starter, they won't be switching to anyone else for a Wildcat package because he's the best runner for that style that we'll have. He's a better runner than Relf and more physical than Bumphis or anyone else we might put back there.
2) If we really name this guy the starter than we are asking for it. Like I said a minute ago, he is a GREAT runner. He probably can't be quite the hammer between the tackles like Tebow is, but he has better top end speed to the outside. With that said, though, his passing game is inferior to Tebow's. He is not very accurate. Watch the videos. You have receivers having to stop and jump for five yard outs. That shouldn't happen. Newton already thinks his stuff doesn't stink, so telling him he's the starter is the worst thing you could do because it's a guarantee at that point that he won't work on anything. As Cam Newton currently stands, with his current accuracy, he is not a "program changer". Do we really want to just settle for that, instead of pushing the guy?
No offense, Todd, but the most ridiculous part is that you compared it to Drew Brees. Drew Brees had just had a Pro Bowl season. Cam Newton had a good year in JuCo. Who is more proven out of those two? Drew Brees had played exceptionally well against NFL competition. The Saints knew what they were getting, as long as he recovered appropriately from shoulder surgery. Cam Newton has not played significant downs in the SEC. A few plays here and there as a Freshman don't count.
Tell the guy you expect him to win the job. That's fine. But you have to make them compete, because competition makes them all better. And that makes Mississippi State better.
