Can Paixano (La Xampanyeria)
Carrer de la Reina Cristina, 7
I think it opens at like 8AM, and all the day laborers gather for breakfast of sausage wrapped in bread and rosé cava. All these guys in stained undershirts waving around their sausage sandwiches and drinking pink sparkling wine. It is (or was anyway) totally authentic and as unlike a tourist experience as one could want - and the sausage and cava were good, too! Last time I was in Barcelona, this place was closed, and they were renovating, so I hope it has not changed.

Mont Bar - great tapas and good wine
Bar Mut - another great tapas spot
Mint Bar, you mean? Just around the corner from Can Paixano? (I got a laminated map.)

What part of New Mexico will you be in?
I second the White Sands visit. I also recommend the Sunset tour.
We bought property in Sandia Park and our daughter 2 goes to UNM. We are out there a couple times per year.

Gorgeous area. I'm also really partial to Abiqui. Have you been to the Bisti Badlands yet? Nice photo opps but then all of NM is pretty much "nice photo opps."

Funny you should mention. Was wearing my Ghost Ranch button down denim shirt yesterday. Wife loves Abiqui. I have not been to Bisti or up northwest. Would like to see Gallup as well.

LOL, I'm wearing my Ghost Ranch T-shirt today. I love that place. I recommend some of their tours. I did the O'Keefe walking tour and it was great but I'm a HUGE O'Keefe fan. I'd love to do a photography workshop there later on.
There are 2 Authors I like, Preston Douglas and Lincoln Child who write together. They have done some book workshops there as well.
Preston Douglas lived in the Santa Fe area for a while.
But here are a couple of their books I liked...Thunder Head (Maybe my favorite), Mount Dragon (also very good) Diablo Mesa, Scorpians Tail, ( those are all New Mexico heavy, well excdept for Thunder Head more Paige AZ, Utah Canyon heavy).
Douglas Preston did 2 by himself that are very good, one is Fiction called Tryannosaur Canyon and the other is non fiction about his search through New Mexico for Coranado's legendary 7 Cities of Gold. It is excellent, especially if you are familiar with the area. Highly recommend it.
One other place I recommend and your wife would love it is the Ojo Caliente spa...
I recommend the Cliff Side suite...

I could talk about New Mexico forever. :)

My wife has been wanting to go to Germany for Christkindle markets. I think we are going in December 2024, via Viking river cruise. Anyone do this before? Do you have any suggestions?

I've been to the town of Glenwood Springs, where Doc Holiday (not the Marshall football coach) is buried. Nice little walk. We didnt make it to the hot springs though. It was right across the road, but the bridge was out! and that made it like an hours drive to get there!! We did do a littel float trip down the Colorado river which was fun.
If you're interested in Doc Holliday then be sure to visit Leadville, CO where he lived before going to Glenwood Springs because he couldn't handle the altitude and the weather. In Leadville, go to the Silver Dollar Saloon. Holliday gambled there and it still has a great deal of its original furnishings in particular a really cool original bar. It's an interesting place to visit and a taste of the old west.

tapas strategy ... sit at the bar, order wine, order tapas 1-2 at a time, order more wine, order more tapas
I have a couple tapas suggestions for Barcelona if you are headed there
My wife and I were in Madrid almost 5 year ago. Loved it. Stayed in the Salamanca neighborhood and we could walk or take the subway easily anywhere from there. Easy commute to the airport from that area as well.

For dinner/tapas I'd suggest Old Bar Lujam in the northern section of center city. Nice relaxed, eclectic area. Street or indoor seating. Go early for tapas/beer or later for dinner. They don't open for dinner till 8pm.

For sweet treat, the Churreria Chocolateria 1902, near Plaza Mayor, was great for a hot afternoon break!

After a week of visiting Colorado (Estes Park - too crowded, Rocky Mountain National Park - highly recommend, Denver - like the place, Steamboat Springs - nice ski town, and Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area - technically in Utah and Wyoming - recommend southern portion), we arrived at our second home in Star Valley Ranch, WY. No smoke here.Snow Mountains.jpg

I liked Steamboat Springs as well. Some great hiking trails and hot springs. The other area I liked outside of Denver was Roxborough State Park. Gorgeous hiking trails and views.

What neighborhood did you stay in in Barcelona? I am in the process of planning 4-5 nights there as part of a larger Euro trip. Looking for a neighborhood where we can walk to bars, restaurants and other attractions, especially Gaudi stuff.

Family suggestion for London - The Afternoon Tea Paddington Bus; it’s an hour and 45 minute full afternoon tea service on an old double decker bus. Very attentive staff, wonderful tea selection, and tremendous scones with clotted cream (@BobPSU92 !!). Staff is awesome and you get a narrated tour of several of the top sites in the city. Oh - you can get champagne too. Highly recommend (actually doing this right now)…

I'm jealous! Enjoy!
I stayed at Arc de la Rambla hotel, along Las Ramblas boulevard. It was a short walk to bars and restaurants (and La Boqueria market), as well as to the Gothic Quarter and to the waterfront.

I think most of the Gaudi stuff we saw via hop on / hop off bus, I don't know how long the walk to those would be from that area.

Norway is much closer than New Zealand and it might be just as beautiful. Rent a car and go, amazing place.

In August we are flying into Copenhagen, doing a Trafalgar tour of Denmark, Norway & Sweden. Been planning this trip for over a year. We've used Trafalgar before, so I know that piece of it. Have been researching all the main attractions, watching all the tourist videos, etc. still not sure what to expect.

I’m more of an art museum guy but I can clearly remember my visit to the NYC Guggenheim over fifty years ago. Thanks for the reminder to do some research on Gaudi.

My wife and I are going to be in Colorado in late June. Seeing George Straight / Chris Stapleton concert, but will spend time in Estes park and a rodeo type event.
Heading to Aspen at end of July for nephews wedding. Playing golf at Aspen Golf Club. Doing Glenwood Springs and Telluride after the wedding.

We went about this time last year. Flew into Bergen and then rented a car for about 10 or 11 days staying primarily in Airbnbs. Norway's road and ferry system is amazing and the sights are amazing. I'm sure Trafalgar will do a great job on the 3 countries. Have fun!

Wife and I spent a week last September exploring Canadian Rockies: Banff / Lake Louise / Yoho… cathartic
I will second a recommendation on the Banff area. Outstanding scenery and plenty to do. Also spent a weekend in Vancouver on the same trip and if you pick the right tours, you can get a lot out of that as well.

Alaska has plenty of appeal during the summer months. I was in the Anchorage area for a week last summer and I'd give that high marks as well.

I'll be watching the Barcelona portion of the thread because that could be a landing spot for me prior to a work trip in Spain in the fall.
