I guess technically you are correct but the signs and roped off areas say differently. As for the public beach, my kids wanted to go check it out so we went there planning to spend most of a day. The "vendors" were a pain in the arse that we headed back to our condo's beach after an hour or two.
Well I don’t want people to think it’s that way. Everywhere, because it’s not. That said Cayman has been fighting the vendor problem for a while. I think the solution was to license them and let them control part of the beach. But if anyone says ‘ this is private beach’ tell them no it’s not, and keep on going Governors beach is right next to that area, lovely beach, nobody bothers you, a parking lot, and a pretty good snokle spot

Any suggestions for a money belt? Rick Steves says that pickpockets are a big problem in Spain.

What about Niagara Falls? Is it worth a trip? If so, any suggestions about where to stay and what to do? Thanks

The Falls are spectacular. I can’t testify to the town, though.

It’s spectacular. New York State has spent a lot of money on Niagara Falls State Park. It’s very nice. The Canadian side is very nice and offers great views of both Falls. Niagara Falls, Canada is much nicer of a town than Niagara Falls, NY.

I hope you like it or you'll be coming after me. ;)
I thought the views were spectacular.
We finished the last day of our trip and are headed home tomorrow. Everyone loved Kentuck Knob. Thanks for the suggestion. Day 1 was Kentuck Knob and Fallingwater, then we drove the PA turnpike through the tunnels to Philly. Day 2 was Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross’s house, frame replica of Washington‘s house, Ben Franklin’s buildings and museum, US Mint tour, and fireman’s museum tour, after which we drove to DC. Day 3 was a tour of the White House and the African American museum. Day 4 was a tour of Congress, after which we went to the Library of Congress and the Air and Space museum. Day 5 was the National Gallery of Art, a tour of the Washington Monument, after which we went to the Vietnam Memorial to find the name of a relative, then the Lincoln Memorial, and finished with the American History museum. Day 6 was Mount Vernon for a National Treasure Tour, a house tour and a grounds tour, after which we headed to Gettysburg for the afternoon of July 1st. We drove most of the battle field. Day 7 was today. We went to Eisenhower’s house, then went to Devils Den and also saw Little and Big Round Tops from there. Little Round Top is closed to the public. It was a great road trip. As an aside, we saw 2 UNESCO World Heritage sites: Fallingwater and Independence Hall.

We got back from Colorado yesterday. Fabulous trip on the whole. Stayed at Mt. Princeton Resort (hot pools) amidst the mountain vistas, stayed in Crested Butte for a few days to photograph the wildflowers and mountains, visited Great Sand Dunes, and then circled back to Denver. Great weather despite what we saw on tv and fun driving amdist beautiful scenery. Food was eh and frankly I was surprised. Enjoyed breakfasts at McGills in Crested Butte but no real awesome meals and multiple times the managers apologized for staff mistakes. We aren't picky and actually flexible at all times with kids working at restaurants but each meal had something wrong with it. Other than that, great trip and I recommend the following: Firebrand Deli in Gunnison, Judd Falls and Lower Loop trails near Crested Butte, Bonez Mexican in Crested Butte, Mt. Princeton Resort and the Denver Airport Westin -- all worth staying at/eating at/seeing if you venture to central Colorado for a few days.

And btw, Penn Staters were everywhere including the United employee at the Denver airport who checked us on to our flight.

I have one for the AKB. Looking to take the fam to a tropical island next summer. Two boys 16 and 13. They haven’t yet experienced clear water. We want to take them snorkeling, catamaran, etc. Price isn’t an issue(I don’t think). TIA.
Maui or Kauai

Take a snorkel trip to Molokini crater off Maui. Crystal clear, 50' deep, hundreds of species of fish Amazing.

Sundowner's. Stay within walking distance.

You can thank me later.

;)

We saw Jim Kelly in 1989 at Mints the night Amber Lynn performed. We saw Andre Reed at the GTR in Fort Erie the night Erica Boyer performed. Saw Jim, his father and brothers at Maxine’s in Fort Erie in the late 80s. We bought him a beer, he returned the favor by putting 2 dancers on his tab for us for the rest of the night.

It was a thing in Buffalo in the 80s. We went to Canadian bars until we turned 21. Legal age in Canada was 19. No issues getting in. The strip clubs were there, so why not? Ran into the Bills very often.

My wife and I are looking to go on a cruise in late 2024. It’s a Viking river cruise geared towards visiting several Christmas Villages. Is there a certain time frame when you can generally get the best rates? Obviously, unsold cruises will start getting discounted as you get closer to the cruise date. We don’t want to push it, as this is really important to my wife. There was a sale on this particular cruise before Memorial Day. Do they have sales around all major holidays? At what point at do the prices start to decrease based upon the calendar (nearing the departure dates)?

Any other tips on how to save money when booking? AAA discount? AARP discount?

I carry money and passport in a pouch attached to my belt covered by a shirt.
I carry a "fake wallet" in my back pocket -- an old wallet with expired credit cards and insurance cards and maybe a dollar or two, or whatever the local currency.none of the expired cards have my current address.

Going to a music festival in Quebec next month (featuring Foo Fighters). Have never been. Visited Montreal last year and very much enjoyed the city.
Follow up - Quebec is a beautiful city with an extremely European feel, especially in the “Old” part of the city. Much more French than Montreal, though they (being Canadian) will graciously accommodate your English if necessary.

Oh, and Foo Fighters were OUTstanding…Grohl is roughly my age and I would love to know where he gets his energy.

We loved Niagara Falls. Be sure to ride the Maid of the Mist and do The Cave of the Winds. We stayed in the Casino that is right there; can't remember the name. We were on a road trip so only spent a couple of days there. Canada was still closed to visitors at the time so we couldn't cross the border. We did hit the Anchor Bar in Buffalo on the way though. It was a great trip.

In Quebec City, stay at the Chateau Frontenac. I have no idea what it costs, but it’s terrific.

We're about to start final leg of our cross country drive from North Carolina to Powell, Wyoming. Sitting in Cheyenne right now. Powell will be our base for Yellowstone, Tetons, etc. Plan on returning across northern route: South Dakota, Wisconsin, and so on. Been an amazing drive - many preconceived ideas of land topography have been disrupted, for instance.

Make sure you do the Mangy Moose in Teton Village for cocktails and dinner. If you do Jackson Hole, The Gunbarrell Saloon and Gilley’s.

It's almost time to start thinking about foliage season. Instead of the traditional drive through New England, consider a run up to the Thousand Islands region and a boat cruise on the St. Lawerence.

Completed my summer of travel. Ten days in Colorado: Denver, Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Steamboat Springs; five weeks at our second home in Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming and then a month in Ireland: mainly County Galway with day trips to County Clare and the Cliffs of Moher and to County Mayo for Achill Island. Enjoyed every bit of it. Back to work tomorrow.

How does an employee manage to earn 11 weeks of summer vacation? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yeah, my wife’s parents were college professors. They travelled far and wide, every summer, never stayed home.
Since my wife’s retirement in November, we decided to spend one month per year living in a foreign country. We will use a summer month until I retire in December of 2025, when we can be more flexible in selecting the month. Next summer, we plan on staying in the Austrian Alps.

Agree the NY state park at Niagara is really nice. NY does a great job with their state parks. Many being nicer than national parks.

Also in the Niagara area is the Niagara Power Vista Visitors Center which is really cool. Kid love it.

+1. Many of the countries State Parks are hidden treasures. Far less "touron's" than many national parks and not over crowded.

Hey Jim, I carry a small leather semi wallet that can hold a couple of cards and cash. Very flat. I also only wear gear with zippers in sketchy places like Las Ramblas in Barcelona. I am a paranoid when I travel to a Certain extent.

With a Day to go, we have spent the last 12 days hiking and touring via train in Switzerland. We have ripped through numerous hikes in the Gstaad, Matterhorn, Leukenbad, Adelboden and Interlaken areas. Also took the Tram/ train up to The Jung Frau Joch. The train system here is great, same for the Gondolas everywhere as in everywhere. no AC in the hotels over 1000 meters elevation, food delicious, trails remarkable, spas also great and the people are chill. Doubt we will ever get back but we have crushed it on our feet and I have to say, it’s a damn cool place. Clean, beautiful, chill. Great trails, steep drops.

Swiss flags everywhere, same with flowers. A buddy of mine remarked on the Swiss flags that it comes across as sort of a statement. We are Swiss, you are not and you wish you were.

I’ll be taking a tour of Spain late this summer and would appreciate any suggestions for tapas strategies in Madrid. Also, vermouth bars are a thing in Madrid? I’d like to try those.
Hope you get to Barcelona, great place. Hope you also are red wine consumer. The Tempranillos and Garnachs are superb and good value as well.

Anyone done Route 66 lately? Is it worth it still to do the route and see some of history and past when people used that for cross country drives?

What parts? The section running through New Mexico is pretty nice...well maybe not so much Tucumcari but the rest is nice.
AZ's section is very nice as well.

We are doing several days in parts of Austria before our days specifically at Red Bull Ring for the Austrian F1 Grand Prix. Looking forward to seeing several of the small towns on lakes with mountains in background. Likely will try to see Eagle’s Nest as well.
