Anyone familiar with Denver Co? I’m going to a concert at mile high stadium and I’m wondering if there are any mass transit options or other hacks to avoid sitting in traffic after the concert is over. Our hotel is by the airport. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

they have a rail line into town from the airport ( the airport is not close to downtown). If you are going to Denver must sees imo is going to Morrison and exploring Red Rocks even if you dont go to a concert. And then going to Golden and visiting Ace's high bar, possibly the second best dive bar in America.

Some quick thoughts on the scene in London:

I haven’t been since about 2014 or so; it is absolutely mobbed (lots of events aligning for massive crowds - nice, but hot, weather, Harry Styles concerts, King’s birthday, etc). I don’t recall it being this crowded. There is also a lot more trash everywhere - I don’t recall London being this dirty. We have mostly been cabbing it around the city (except for a trip to Oxford and the Harry Potter WB studios) so no idea about the tube, but many main road closures have made for some long cab rides. I know a lot of Brits are iffy about the monarchy but if they ever ended it I think 90% of retails stores would go out of business. Fortnum & Mason has a whole floor selling everything from Coronation gin, tea, biscuits, and other food items. All this to say is a lot of money is made off a powerless novelty. But, whatever.

It’s been pretty great though - had a nice schedule of things we wanted to do and plenty of time to rest in between. Off to Paris tomorrow….

I’m more of an art museum guy but I can clearly remember my visit to the NYC Guggenheim over fifty years ago. Thanks for the reminder to do some research on Gaudi.

Oh, my in-country plans are coming together. Art Institute of Chicago! It’s been a good twenty years, almost. This museum has three certified masterpieces, by Seurat, Hopper, Grant Wood, plus a hell of a El Greco. Van Gogh special exhibit. I’ll be floating, no lie.

Thanks. It’s not my first trip to Denver, but never thought about mass transit.
We are having dinner at the Fort in Morrison Friday night.

Heading out on a road trip to Fallingwater and Flight 93, then taking PA turnpike so the kids can go through the tunnels, then to Philly for the Liberty Bell and other historic sites, then to DC where we have tickets to tour the White House, Capitol and Washington Monument (will also take in museums and other monuments), then to Gettysburg and Eisenhower’s house, then back home with a stop at Penns Cave. In the fall, when the kids are at college, the wife and I are going to Memphis and New Orleans. Never been to either. Haven’t traveled since 2019. Really looking forward to it.

Have fun. They redid some of the tunnels coming out of Somerset. Not a fan.

I know they closed one tunnel and did a workaround, but I thought there were still 3 working tunnels. I went through them as a kid and really thought they were cool. I want my kids to see them too before they’re all closed and replaced with workarounds.

I know there are 2 left going out of Somerset. I thought they went around the 3rd and were using that as either a mushroom farm or to do wind testing on race cars🤷‍♂️
But they have been working on the tunnels for quite a while and I do not like the end result at all. It feels like Auschwitz should be at the end.
There are 2 more right before the Chambersburg/Shippensburg exit. Those are much nicer and brighter.
Let me know what you think.
Sounds like an awesome trip plan so have fun.

Fallingwater is a must see but I think Kentuck Knob is better. Its only about 10-15 miles away.
I haven't been to flight 93 since they finished it but its supposed to be nice.

Wish I had time for both. Already bought Fallingwater tickets before I learned about the other. We’re on a tight time schedule. Kentuck Knob will have to wait. We have 2 here in Buffalo that I have to see: Darwin Martin House and Graycliff.

On Friday, I had a long flight layover in London returning from a work trip in India. I enjoyed having a pint here: 1687183391341.jpeg

Oh it’s a fun town for sure - we had a blast. We’re
in Paris now and way more my speed. Prefer cafe culture to pub culture and way less stuffy. Intermittent rain has helped keep things cool too.

Took the kids to the Louvre today and they were very excited to see the Mona Lisa. It used to be people just mobbed their way to the roped off area. Now they have a queue where everyone gets a chance to get close. No lie - the two twentysomething young men in front of us took about 100 pics each. My kids were incredulous (I think the men were Italian). Anyway, we did the big three and left. Tomorrow is Versailles - my daughter is curious as to why there is no king of France; I told her she’ll find out why soon enough…

Let me add the talent in Paris > London. Girl across from me in a cafe looked like Cara Delevingne with more freckles, darker hair, and bright blue eyes. Just more natural beauty here - lots of influencer types in London (which is fine, but it’s heavily contrived).

Oh - and you know you’re in Paris when your hotel concierge is reading Dostoyevski ‘for fun’…

The abandoned tunnels can still be found. See attached map and an article about the abandoned section near Breezewood.

At the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, a solid 10/10. Extremely well designed, perfectly executed. I bumped into this gent with a HD jacket and flowing mustache. Me: “Oh, excuse me.” Then: “Been here before?” “No.” “This must be heaven to you.” “Heaven, heaven, heaven.” Cool.

Just got back from a few days in Cincinnati. I have to say the Museum of Art really surprised me. A lot of great objects and a very nice place. Downtown was fun. Did an escape room on the riverfront walk with the kids who were really on it -- yes, we escaped in time. Good short 3-5 day trip to see our oldest D in med school.

There was a stretch of about a year where i was going to Paris every other month or so on business just before covid hit.

What you say about the talent is undeniable. I used to think the ratio of pretty to plain to ugly was pretty universal now that the jet age has so mingled the DNA.....
But Paris....holy crap.

Sedona for 10 days in September, right after the Delaware game. Playing 2 rounds at Sedona Golf Resort, and getting to the bottom of the canyon. My first trip to the GC.
If you need an add on for the golf lemme know . This is my home turf. Oak Creek Country club right near there is fantastic ...Robert Trent Jones design. Seven Canyons is outstanding . Not sure what the access is , in a lucky time of my life I dated a hottie that worked at Enchantment Resort and they would let us play there . Her parents from MN were avid golfers and would come out . Good times . If you need any GC info , Sedona, Cottonwood , Flagstaff info DM me if that's possible . If not just ask here .

After a week of visiting Colorado (Estes Park - too crowded, Rocky Mountain National Park - highly recommend, Denver - like the place, Steamboat Springs - nice ski town, and Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area - technically in Utah and Wyoming - recommend southern portion), we arrived at our second home in Star Valley Ranch, WY. No smoke here.View attachment 349865

Not a motorcycle guy, but live close to the HD assembly plant in York PA. They have a nice factory tour, but I received a behind the scenes tour as part of my local American Society for Quality chapter. There really are people who’s job it is to test drive Harley’s all day.

Also, if you are an employee you can pretty much get a new Harley every year. They sell you a bike at a reduced cost and you finance for a few years. It’s enough below retail that you can drive it for a year and sell it for what the next one costs. Of course if you fall in love and want to keep it you would have to keep paying it off.

I will second a recommendation on the Banff area. Outstanding scenery and plenty to do. Also spent a weekend in Vancouver on the same trip and if you pick the right tours, you can get a lot out of that as well.

Alaska has plenty of appeal during the summer months. I was in the Anchorage area for a week last summer and I'd give that high marks as well.

I'll be watching the Barcelona portion of the thread because that could be a landing spot for me prior to a work trip in Spain in the fall.
We did end our trip in Vancouver, incredible city, but i did not want to be in a city ... our next trip to the Canadian Rockies will be spent btw Canmore - Banff- Jasper

Canmore is where I stayed and I loved the town. Banff is beautiful but too touristy for me.

I never cease to be surprised at what can be found in “minor” art museums. Columbus is a great experience, some really great stuff from the twenties. Indianapolis has a Rembrandt self-portrait from when he was twenty, incredible.

Oh, I’m in Sheboygan, with my wife’s sister and her husband. They live in St. Paul but we’re here at his mother’s home. He’s a UW grad, as I’ve mentioned. He’s a gung-ho day-trip planner and he’s working hard this morning. “What do you know about Wisconsin?” “Other than cheese and the fact that they can’t beat Penn State, not much.”

We rented last summer a 45 ft catamaran and sailed out to the dry tortugas off key west. Was an amazing trip. Snorkeling and swimming with sea life. The beauty of Fort Jefferson and the coral reefs are amazing. We fished and caught fresh fish for dinner most nights. Swimming with sea turtles and fish daily was just amazing.

How about a few spots for some libations and steaks or burgers after hiking the canyon!! Would greatly appreciate the advice.

At Versailles today and learned they are building ‘horse city’ as Versailles will be the location of all equestrian events for the 2024 Olympics. Will be a stunning back drop…

We did a guided tour that was wonderful and learned that Kim Kardashian tried to get married at one of the Versailles chapels and was denied. She did get to have her reception there though…

Interestingly enough, Versailles, Kentucky (pronounce Ver-Sails, kind of embarrassing) bills itself as the horse Capitol of the world.
