Well, at least we don't have to worry about Clemson taking Bama players in the portal.Good point on the transfers. The vultures are circling for Bama's players so it could be disastrous to their roster to have this thing drag on.

I heard the 72 hour mark was told specifically to players. "Just sit tight for 72 hours before you jump ship", or something like that. Rumor, fwiw.
Well, it's a little different when can just skim the cream right off the top. I can't imagine what the ADs messages looked like around 6PM last night. That would make sense.
I will say, the way Bama is handling their business with a coaching search is a stark contrast to how we have handled ours.

We had a plan A (Herman) and B (Smart) for HBC. Had to settle for C. Herman got spooked about the shape of our program when we lost to El Cid. He was urged to sit tight, that UT would have an opportunity the next year. RT had Smart on the hook, then UGA made a big boy move and canned Richt. I don't fault RT at all for how we ended up with Muschamp. At that point he was just as big a risk as anyone else we could have gotten as a plan C option. Don't have that much of read on the Beamer hire. I don't remember there being much info on leading candidates and such until it was Beamer. Leads me to believe he had a plan, we may not have liked it, but a plan nonetheless. This is true. From the outside looking in on our last 2 hires, though, it seems like we never really have a plan. Bama's AD probably had his top 3 ready on speed dial at any given moment. I mean, they got their top guy on campus within 24 hours apparently.
It's all speculative on Herman. Never have had any confirmation on any of that.We had a plan A (Herman) and B (Smart) for HBC. Had to settle for C. Who knows if Lanning was there. There's some info on twitter that he's told his team he's not going anywhere, will be their coach in 2024, and was never in Tusc.
What confirmation do you want? RT to come out and verify? He was a lock to USC until that Citadel game. It was reported by some insiders that he was advised that there would likely be bigger programs coming to call in the next year. Whether or not that happened is irrelevant. He was #1 and had a contract in his hand, and after the Citadel game he withdrew his name from consideration. It's all speculative on Herman. Never have had any confirmation on any of that.
It was KVAL CBS in Eugene, Oregon that reported Lanning was in Tuscaloosa. Not sure what advantage there would be for an Oregon new station to falsely report Lanning was in Tuscaloosa.

We played El Cid on 11/21/15. News broke that he had withdrawn his name from consideration on 11/25/15. Dan Wolken at USAToday reported it as well. He specifically cited the Cid loss as the reason he tapped out. I remember Kornblut reporting that it was a done deal, they had an agreement in principle, and all that needed to happen was Herman sign the deal. How do you know this? I'm not saying it's not true but it's purely speculative. It makes a nice narrative that the Citadel loss cost us Herman.

Will Muschamp didn't make it at Florida, can he turn South Carolina around?
The former Florida coach will have a difficult task rebuilding the Gamecocks.www.usatoday.com

Sources: Houston’s Tom Herman no longer a candidate to coach South Carolina
Herman had been the school's top choice to replace Steve Spurrier, but he has withdrawn his name from consideration, sources said.sports.yahoo.com
lol. Knew that was coming.
Of course they denied it. PR at it's best. USC didn't need that denial being out there, and Herman had to at least pretend like he was going to be at Houston long term.![]()

Surging Houston's battle to keep Herman
When you win, "cool stuff happens" to you, says the country's most-sought head coaching prospect. But you also have to fight to keep everything you've got.www.sbnation.com

That info was all over the place...both locally and nationally.lol, which goes to prove my point...you believe the "sources" that say what you want them to say.

He also told the team right before their bowl game against Memphis that he wasn't leaving. 24 hours later he was announced as the HC of TX. Saban was also not going to be the next HC at Bama. lolWell, the only person who was willing to stick their name to anything was the Houston player who said Herman told them straight-up that he wasn't interested in the job here.

lol Yeah, this is how he got around lying about TX:He said he wasn't leaving for the LSU job, which is true.
But we got Muschamp. Winner. Right?lol Yeah, this is how he got around lying about TX:
Herman added, “I said guys this isn’t true what you are hearing about LSU. Do I need to have another team meeting to address it? Because we had multiple throughout the course of the previous few weeks. They said, ‘No coach we’ll handle it. We’re numb to it at this point and we understand you’re not going to lie to us.'”
Let me put this as diplomatically as I can.One possibility tossed around (of the many being tossed around) is Norvell to Bama and Deion to FSU.
Sounds like Kiffin and Dabo are out....sooooooo, DeBoer or Norvell??
And now Sark+Arch rumors
Somebody will eventually guess the right thing and be all braggy about it.
This crossed my mind earlier, but I think Sark is better off staying put. Texas is every bit the powerhouse/money train that Bama is. They've just missed on their last few coaches. He appears to be the right one, finally. And now Sark+Arch rumors

Norvell just signed an extension. One possibility tossed around (of the many being tossed around) is Norvell to Bama and Deion to FSU.
Yep, noted in the Norvell thread. Deions’s stuck.Norvell just signed an extension.
Spurrier had two options: gut out an abysmal and worst season of his entire career or walk away mid season. Either way his ego was going to take a massive, massive hit. Legacy? That’s a different story.I wish to the Almighty that Spurrier had retired in the same manner as Saban, especially seeing as how he wanted to. His legacy would have been significantly enhanced had he gone out the same way. I'm certain he wishes it also.
Me too. He could have walked away after a winning season, having just beaten a blue blood in a bowl game. I lost a lot of respect in him the way he did it. To me, it was a tarnished legacy.I wish to the Almighty that Spurrier had retired in the same manner as Saban, especially seeing as how he wanted to. I think some of us need to remember, though, that he tried to go the extra mile to satisfy the desires of other people and not himself. Steve Spurrier is an egotistical man, but I don't believe ego brought him back. At any rate, it was very lamentable - very lamentable indeed.Me too.
